Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the majority of the world's Christians now living in the non-Western world, Christian mission has become a global movement. The mission of Western Christianity now faces the challenge of laying aside the preeminence and privilege it has long enjoyed in global Christian mission, and embracing a new role of servanthood in weakness alongside its sisters and brothers from Asia, South America, and Africa. Such a transformation in historic patterns in mission requires not just new strategies and techniques, but a renewal of its spirituality. How can the spirituality of Western mission be renewed? By learning from those non-Western Christians whose lives on the margins reveal anew the One who emptied himself of the prerogatives of glory on the cross to serve humanity out of utter weakness. Learning from the Least invites you to a journey among Palestinian Christians to meet radical peacemakers who are making courageous decisions to reconcile with those who are customarily reckoned as enemies. Their radical servanthood out of weakness is a prophetic challenge to Western Christians, a call to lay aside the prerogatives of power and wealth, to question triumphal theologies, and to discover again the vulnerability of the way of the cross.

Download or read book Genesis written by Abraham Kuruvilla and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-02-17 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis: A Theological Commentary for Preachers engages hermeneutics for preaching, employing theological exegesis that enables the preacher to utilize all the narrative units of the book to craft effective sermons. This commentary unpacks the crucial link between Scripture and application: the theology of each preaching text, i.e., what the author is doing with what he is saying. Genesis is thus divided into thirty-five narrative units and the theological focus of each is delineated. The overall theological trajectory/theme of the book--divine blessing: creating for blessing (Gen 1-11), moving towards blessing (Gen 12-24), experiencing the blessing (Gen 25-36), and being a blessing (Gen 37-50)--is thus progressively developed. The specificity of these theological ideas for their respective texts makes possible a sequential homiletical movement through each pericope of the book, enabling the expositor to discover valid application for sermons. While the primary goal of the commentary is to take the preacher from text to theology, it also provides two sermon outlines for each of the thirty-five units of Genesis. The unique approach of this work results in a theology-for-preaching commentary that promises to be useful for anyone teaching through Genesis with an emphasis on application.

Book The Evolution of Africans in North America

Download or read book The Evolution of Africans in North America written by Archie J. Williams and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-09-07 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perspectives: The Evolution of Africans in North America The Three Phases of Permanent Perpetual Slavery uses history from a quasi-clinical perspective. Although this book is not intended as a purely scientifically qualified approach it nevertheless uses elements by observing patterns of events shaping socio-environmental conditions impacting on a targeted group. Breaking the evolutional changes into phases should help to structure a view of the symptoms presented at this point in time. From that you can begin to diagnosis the pathology resulting from the long-term traumatic events. For that reason this book will observe the Peculiar closed system of slavery institutionalized in Colonial America and extending into the core foundation of the American Society as it is today. Hopefully this crude analysis using the three phases of perpetual slavery will bring some understanding of the present day functioning of the identified group, African Americans, and will assist with predicting what path for treatment would most impact the greatest healing.

Book excerpt: Is God to blame for natural disasters? Does He cause volcanic action, flooding, earthquakes, plague and genetic disease? Can He Prevent them? Why doesn’t He? Geoffrey E L Bennett uncovers deep Biblical insights linking them to twenty-first century cultural and scientific answers. Is God cruel or callous? Is He impotent or incompetent? How can I know if God even exists? Part one explores pain and shows how different cultural groups understand God to be vindictive and cruel, or else limited in power, or believe that suffering does not really exist. Part two examines Old Testament teaching on suffering, challenging the idea of ancient wisdom. Profound teaching is dissected from the minor and major prophets as well as the story of Job. Then the New Testament fulfillment of prophecy is examined, challenging perceived ideas, and finishes with an interpretation of the Apocalypse. The concluding solution to pain and suffering of God. Part three deals with scientific theories and twenty-first century concepts of the universe and the physical world, together with raw nature and biogenetic problems. What place does God have in our modern world? Do natural disasters “Acts of God” show a limited or incompetent Deity?
