Book A Moment that Lasts Forever Un momento para siempre

Download or read book A Moment that Lasts Forever Un momento para siempre written by Triny Mancisidor and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A moment that lasts forever” is a story for parents they can safely share with their children. I decided to share this story with other moms to remind them that they are not alone if they feel the strain of keeping up every day with toddlers and babies, it is a picture book so the illustrations themselves tell the story and also add detail to make it more interesting to observe for children and adults alike. It’s based on something that actually happened to me when I became a mother. When my first child was born my life was all of a sudden hectic and my reaction was trying to control as much as I could, especially on his sleeping schedule, but one night my baby boy resisted my efforts, that made me angry, but his aim was to give me a kiss, the first one I ever got from him. So I was reminded that our children also bring bliss amidst the chaos usually in the shape of unconditional love and spontaneity.

Book Experiencing Time in the Early Modern Hispanic World

Download or read book Experiencing Time in the Early Modern Hispanic World written by Ariadna García-Bryce and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-20 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers the new ways time was experienced in the sixteenth- and seventeeth-century Hispanic world in the framework of global Catholicism. It underscores the crucial role that the imitation of Christ plays in modeling how representative writers physically and mentally interiorize temporal impermanence as the Messiah’s suffering body becomes a paradigmatic as well as malleable marker of the avatars of earthly history. Particular attention is paid to the ways in which authors adapt Christ-centered conceptions of existence to accommodate both a volatile post-eschatological world and the increased dominance of mechanical clock time. As novel means of communing with Christ emerge, so too do new modes of sensing and understanding time, unleashing unprecedented cultural and literary reinvention. This is demonstrated through close analyses of writings by such influential figures as Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Teresa of Ávila, Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora, and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

Book excerpt: Ana Rossetti is a unique phenomenon in Spanish culture, a performer and a writer who resists categorization within any single genre, gender, period, or medium. One of the most exciting Spanish writers of the last twenty-five years, Rossetti can be both transgressive and playful, employing erotic signs (fetishes, taboos) derived from fashion, literature, design, pornography, psychology, theater, drag, and Catholicism to destabilize critical, analytic, political, social, and gender categories. Critics, however, have faced a dilemma that this book seeks to overcome: how to define her work - which bridges high and low cultures and includes poetry, fiction, essay, fashion, drama, children's literature, and opera - without resorting back to the very categories that her own artistic practice questions.

Book Macedonio Fern ndez Between Literature Philosophy and the Avant Garde

Download or read book Macedonio Fern ndez Between Literature Philosophy and the Avant Garde written by Federico Fridman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At Macedonio Fernández's funeral in 1952, Jorge Luis Borges delivered the following elegy: “In those years I imitated him to the point of transcription, to the point of devout and passionate plagiarism. I felt: Macedonio is metaphysics, Macedonio is literature.” This is the first book available in English that collects essays by the world's leading scholars on Macedonio Fernández, one of Borges's most important mentors and a still enigmatic thinker of the early 20th century. Macedonio's philosophy, metaphysics, ethics, and experimental writing laid the foundations for Borges's own theoretical and literary matrix. Nonetheless, Borges helped shape a myth of Macedonio as a thinker who could not translate his oratorial geniality into written intelligibility. So, despite the centrality of Macedonio to Borges's thought, his work has remained almost unknown to English-speaking readers. Contributors to this volume demonstrate, however, that this myth reduces the complexities of Macedonio's life and creative process, as each chapter shines new light on his texts. Conceived as both a companion for new readers of Macedonio's writings and an invitation for specialists to revisit his work through new perspectives, essays in this volume provide extensive background and bibliographical references, as well as English translations of Macedonio's original texts. This collection seeks to serve as a catalyst for the continued discovery and rediscovery of Macedonio Fernández's texts and the ways they might help us to rediscover the singularities of our own present moment.

Book Ash Caribbean Literary Aesthetic in the Cuban Colombian Costa Rican and Panamanian Novel of Resistance

Download or read book Ash Caribbean Literary Aesthetic in the Cuban Colombian Costa Rican and Panamanian Novel of Resistance written by Thomas Wayne Edison and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ashé-Caribbean Literary Aesthetic in the Cuban, Colombian, Costa Rican, and Panamanian Novel of Resistance contributes to understanding the important role that African-influenced spiritualcultures play in literature that challenges the concept that European aesthetics are superior to African-inspired cultures. Thomas W. Edison highlights the novels of four courageous Caribbean writers who have used their novels to integrate aspects of African ontology with literary techniques, themes, and history. The common element in these works is the inclusion of African-inspired faith traditions and culture. As a result of this perspective, their literature stands out as keen examples of Ashé-Caribbean resistance literature. While each writer presents their unique literary style in the works, collectively they draw on a foundation of the Afro-Caribbean. The Circum-Caribbean region will be the geographical unit because of its collective history of slavery, colonial rule, and parallel patterns of religious syncretism. This book makes an important literary connection among Caribbean Hispanophone nations.

Book Reading and Writing the Ambiente

Download or read book Reading and Writing the Ambiente written by Susana Chávez-Silverman and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this dynamic collection of essays, many leading literary scholars trace gay and lesbian themes in Latin American, Hispanic, and U.S. Latino literary and cultural texts. Reading and Writing the Ambiente is consciously ambitious and far-ranging, historically as well as geographically. It includes discussions of texts from as early as the seventeenth century to writings of the late twentieth century. Reading and Writing the Ambiente also underscores the ways in which lesbian and gay self-representation in Hispanic texts differs from representations in Anglo-American texts. The contributors demonstrate that--unlike the emphasis on the individual in Anglo- American sexual identity--Latino, Spanish, and Latin American sexual identity is produced in the surrounding culture and community, in the ambiente. As one of the first collections of its kind, Reading and Writing the Ambiente is expressive of the next wave of gay Hispanic and Latin scholarship.

Book Migrant and Tourist Encounters

Download or read book Migrant and Tourist Encounters written by Andrea Easley Morris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-13 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Migrant and Tourist Encounters: The Ethics of Im/mobility in 21st Century Dominican and Cuban Cultures analyzes the effects of clashing flows of voluntary and involuntary travelers to and from these countries due to an increase in migration and tourism during the last three decades. I compare the ways in which literary works and films reflect on and critique the power relations and ethics of im/mobility and encounter, both on the islands and in destinations abroad. The works draw attention to the interconnectedness of migration, tourism, and other forms of travel as well as immobility, and portray growing local and global inequalities through characters’ disparate access to free, voluntary movement. I consider how the works respond to the question of the moral potential of encounters produced by im/mobilities and the possibility of connection across differences. I argue that Dominican and Cuban artists not only critique neo-colonial paradigms of power and im/mobility, but envision and enact strategies for belonging and, in some cases, suggest a path toward de-colonial cosmopolitanism.
