Book A Modified Least Squares Formulation for a System of First Order Equations

Download or read book A Modified Least Squares Formulation for a System of First Order Equations written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-24 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Second order equations in terms of auxiliary variables similar to potential and stream functions are obtained by applying a weighted least squares formulation to a first order system. The additional boundary conditions which are necessary to solve the higher order equations are determined and numerical results are presented for the Cauchy-Riemann equations. Hafez, M. M. and Phillips, T. N. Langley Research Center NASA-CR-172372, ICASE-84-16, NAS 1.26:172372 NAS1-17070; NAS1-17175

Book Least Squares Finite Element Methods

Download or read book Least Squares Finite Element Methods written by Pavel B. Bochev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-28 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their emergence, finite element methods have taken a place as one of the most versatile and powerful methodologies for the approximate numerical solution of Partial Differential Equations. These methods are used in incompressible fluid flow, heat, transfer, and other problems. This book provides researchers and practitioners with a concise guide to the theory and practice of least-square finite element methods, their strengths and weaknesses, established successes, and open problems.

Book An Introduction to Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis

Download or read book An Introduction to Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis written by Junuthula Narasimha Reddy and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of An Introduction to Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis has the same objective as the first edition, namely, to facilitate an easy and thorough understanding of the details that are involved in the theoretical formulation, finite element model development, and solutions of nonlinear problems. The book offers an easy-to-understand treatment of the subject of nonlinear finite element analysis, which includes element development from mathematical models and numerical evaluation of the underlying physics. The new edition is extensively reorganized and contains substantial amounts of new material. Chapter 1 in the second edition contains a section on applied functional analysis. Chapter 2 on nonlinear continuum mechanics is entirely new. Chapters 3 through 8 in the new edition correspond to Chapter 2 through 8 of the first edition, but with additional explanations, examples, and exercise problems. Material on time dependent problems from Chapter 8 of the first edition is absorbed into Chapters 4 through 8 of the new edition. Chapter 9 is extensively revised and it contains up to date developments in the large deformation analysis of isotropic, composite and functionally graded shells. Chapter 10 of the first edition on material nonlinearity and coupled problems is reorganized in the second edition by moving the material on solid mechanics to Chapter 12 in the new edition and material on coupled problems to the new chapter, Chapter 10, on weak-form Galerkin finite element models of viscous incompressible fluids. Finally, Chapter 11 in the second edition is entirely new and devoted to least-squares finite element models of viscous incompressible fluids. Chapter 12 of the second edition is enlarged to contain finite element models of viscoelastic beams. In general, all of the chapters of the second edition contain additional explanations, detailed example problems, and additional exercise problems. Although all of the progr

Book Non standard Discretisation Methods in Solid Mechanics

Download or read book Non standard Discretisation Methods in Solid Mechanics written by Jörg Schröder and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-14 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume summarizes research being pursued within the DFG Priority Programme 1748: "Reliable Simulation Methods in Solid Mechanics. Development of non-standard discretisation methods, mechanical and mathematical analysis", the aim of which was to develop novel discretisation methods based e.g. on mixed finite element methods, isogeometric approaches as well as discontinuous Galerkin formulations, including a sound mathematical analysis for geometrically as well as physically nonlinear problems. The Priority Programme has established an international framework for mechanical and applied mathematical research to pursue open challenges on an inter-disciplinary level. The compiled results can be understood as state of the art in the research field and show promising ways of further research in the respective areas. The book is intended for doctoral and post-doctoral students in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics and physics, as well as industrial researchers interested in the field.
