Book Calibration of a Bubble Evolution Model to Observed Bubble Incidence in Divers

Download or read book Calibration of a Bubble Evolution Model to Observed Bubble Incidence in Divers written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors use a maximum likelihood method to calibrate a probabilistic bubble evolution model against data of bubbles detected in divers. They obtained the data from a diverse set of 2,064 chamber man-dives involving air and heliox with and without oxygen decompression. Bubbles were measured with Doppler ultrasound and graded according to the Kisman-Masurel code from which a single maximum bubble grade per diver was compared to the maximum bubble radius predicted by the model. The authors carried out the comparison using multinominal statistics by relating bubble grade to maximum bubble radius through a series of probability functions. Gas exchange between the model compartment and blood was assumed to be perfusion-limited. The authors present the most successful calibration algorithm found and the best fit estimates for the parameters investigated.

Book Etiology of Decompression Sickness Characteristics of Bubble Formation in Vivo

Download or read book Etiology of Decompression Sickness Characteristics of Bubble Formation in Vivo written by R. G. Buckles and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to permit the testing of new decompression procedures in a reasonable time frame, a scaled animal preparation was developed. The technique permits the direct observation of bubble formation in vivo under highly controlled environmental conditions. This report presents the basis for such scaling and describes the instrumentation system that was developed. (Author).

Book Hypobaric Decompression Sickness Model Development Part 1 Diffusion of Inert Gas From A Viscoelastic Fluid Blood Into an Expanding Gas Phase

Download or read book Hypobaric Decompression Sickness Model Development Part 1 Diffusion of Inert Gas From A Viscoelastic Fluid Blood Into an Expanding Gas Phase written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bubble growth within a volume of isothermal viscoelastic liquid containing uniformly distributed dissolved gas is considered. A nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive equation is used as a blood model. The problem of characterizing this growth-by-mass-transfer is being treated extensively, in order to better understand both the behavior of bubble growth due to supersaturation and its effects on altitude decompression sickness. Blood, (DCS) Decompression sickness, Bubble growth, Viscoelastic fluid, Constitutive equation.
