Book Hydrodynamics and Transport for Water Quality Modeling

Download or read book Hydrodynamics and Transport for Water Quality Modeling written by James L. Martin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 820 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrodynamics and Transport for Water Quality Modeling presents a complete overview of current methods used to describe or predict transport in aquatic systems, with special emphasis on water quality modeling. The book features detailed descriptions of each method, supported by sample applications and case studies drawn from the authors' years of experience in the field. Each chapter examines a variety of modeling approaches, from simple to complex. This unique text/reference offers a wealth of information previously unavailable from a single source. The book begins with an overview of basic principles, and an introduction to the measurement and analysis of flow. The following section focuses on rivers and streams, including model complexity and data requirements, methods for estimating mixing, hydrologic routing methods, and unsteady flow modeling. The third section considers lakes and reservoirs, and discusses stratification and temperature modeling, mixing methods, reservoir routing and water balances, and dynamic modeling using one-, two-, and three-dimensional models. The book concludes with a section on estuaries, containing topics such as origins and classification, tides, mixing methods, tidally averaged estuary models, and dynamic modeling. Over 250 figures support the text. This is a valuable guide for students and practicing modelers who do not have extensive backgrounds in fluid dynamics.

Book Three Dimensional Adjustment of Stratified Flow Over a Sloping Bottom

Download or read book Three Dimensional Adjustment of Stratified Flow Over a Sloping Bottom written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study focused on understanding how advection of density within the bottom boundary layer influence the three-dimensional structure, evolution, and dynamics of both the bottom boundary layer and the overlying (interior) flow. Simple theories were developed and then tested and extended using both a numerical model and analysis of oceanic observations. Results indicate the simple theories are relevant to the ocean and that the bottom boundary layer plays an important role in the behavior of ocean currents, even when the boundary layer is thin compared to the current depth.

Book Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Hydroinformatics

Download or read book Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Hydroinformatics written by Shie-Yui Liong and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 1019 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydroinformatics addresses cross-disciplinary issues ranging from technological and sociological to more general environmental concerns, including an ethical perspective. It covers the application of information technology in the widest sense to problems of the aquatic environment. This two-volume publication contains about 250 high quality papers contributed by authors from over 50 countries. The proceedings present many exciting new findings in the emerging subjects, as well as their applications, such as: data mining, data assimilation, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and genetic programming, chaos theory and support vector machines, geographic information systems and virtual imaging, decision support and management systems, Internet-based technologies. This book provides an excellent reference to researchers, graduate students, practitioners, and all those interested in the field of hydroinformatics.

Book Environmental Stratified Flows

Download or read book Environmental Stratified Flows written by R. Grimshaw and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamics of flows in density-stratified fluids are an important topic for scientific enquiry. Flows arise in many contexts, ranging from industrial settings to the oceanic and atmospheric environments. Both the ocean and atmosphere are characterized by the basic vertical density stratification, and this feature can affect the dynamics on all scales ranging from the micro-scale to the planetary scale. This volume provides a state-of-the-art account of stratified flows as they are relevant to the ocean and atmosphere, with a primary focus on meso-scale phenomena; that is, phenomena whose time and space scales are such that the density stratification is a dominant effect, so that frictional and diffusive effects on the one hand and the effects of the earth's rotation on the other, can be regarded as of less importance. Environmental Stratified Flows is essential to researchers in the field of oceanography, coastal and marine engineering, and environmental fluid dynamics.

Book Topographic Effects in Stratified Flows

Download or read book Topographic Effects in Stratified Flows written by Peter G. Baines and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-27 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering both theory and experiment, this text describes the behaviour of homogeneous and density-stratified fluids over and around topography. Its presentation is suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in fluid mechanics, as well as for practising scientists, engineers, and researchers. Using laboratory experiments and illustrations to further understanding, the author explores topics ranging from the classical hydraulics of single-layer flow to more complex situations involving stratified flows over two- and three-dimensional topography, including complex terrain. A particular focus is placed on applications to the atmosphere and ocean, including discussions of downslope windstorms, and of oceanic flow over continental shelves and slopes. This new edition has been restructured to make it more digestible, and updated to cover significant developments in areas such as exchange flows, gravity currents, waves in stratified fluids, stability, and applications to the atmosphere and ocean.
