Book Design Modeling and Experiments of 3 DOF Electromagnetic Spherical Actuators

Download or read book Design Modeling and Experiments of 3 DOF Electromagnetic Spherical Actuators written by Liang Yan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-06 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A spherical actuator is a novel electric device that can achieve 2/3-DOF rotational motions in a single joint with electric power input. It has advantages such as compact structure, low mass/moment of inertia, fast response and non-singularities within the workspace. It has promising applications in robotics, automobile, manufacturing, medicine and aerospace industry. This is the first monograph that introduces the research on spherical actuators systematically. It broadens the scope of actuators from conventional single-axis to multi-axis, which will help both beginners and researchers to enhance their knowledge on electromagnetic actuators. Generic analytic modeling methods for magnetic field and torque output are developed, which can be applied to the development of other electromagnetic actuators. A parametric design methodology that allows fast analysis and design of spherical actuators for various applications is proposed. A novel non-contact high-precision 3-DOF spherical motion sensing methodology is developed and evaluated with experiments, which shows that it can achieve one order of magnitude higher precision than conventional methods. The technologies of nondimensionalization and normalization are introduced into magnetic field analysis the first time, and a benchmark database is established for the reference of other researches on spherical actuators.

Book Permanent Magnet Spherical Motors

Download or read book Permanent Magnet Spherical Motors written by Kun Bai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces and illustrates modeling, sensing, and control methods for analyzing, designing, and developing spherical motors. It systematically presents models for establishing the relationships among the magnetic fields, position/orientation and force/torque, while also providing time-efficient solutions to assist researchers and engineers in studying and developing these motors. In order to take full advantage of spherical motors’ compact structure in practical applications, sensing and control methods that utilize their magnetic fields and eliminate the need to install external sensors for feedback are proposed. Further, the book investigates for the first time spherical motors’ force/torque manipulation capability, and proposes algorithms enabling the ball-joint-like end-effector for haptic use based on these motors’ hybrid position/force actuation modes. While systematically presenting approaches to their design, sensing and control, the book also provides many examples illustrating the implementation issues readers may encounter.

Book Algorithmic and Computational Robotics

Download or read book Algorithmic and Computational Robotics written by Bruce Donald and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-04-21 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algorithms that control the computational processes relating sensors and actuators are indispensable for robot navigation and the perception of the world in which they move. Therefore, a deep understanding of how algorithms work to achieve this control is essential for the development of efficient and usable robots in a broad field of applications.

Book Autonomous Robotic Systems

Download or read book Autonomous Robotic Systems written by Changjiu Zhou and published by Physica. This book was released on 2013-03-20 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an edited collection of eighteen contributions on soft and hard computing techniques and their applications to autonomous robotic systems. Each contribution has been exclusively written for this volume by a leading researcher. The volume demonstrates the various ways that the soft computing and hard computing techniques can be used in different integrated manners to better develop autonomous robotic systems that can perform various tasks of vision, perception, cognition, thinking, pattern recognition, decision-making, and reasoning and control, amongst others. Each chapter of the book is self-contained and points out the future direction of research. "It is a must reading for students and researchers interested in exploring the potentials of the fascinating field that will form the basis for the design of the intelligent machines of the future" (Madan M. Gupta)

Download or read book Face Recognition written by Harry Wechsler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Face Recognition: From Theory to Applications took place in Stirling, Scotland, UK, from June 23 through July 4, 1997. The meeting brought together 95 participants (including 18 invited lecturers) from 22 countries. The lecturers are leading researchers from academia, govemment, and industry from allover the world. The lecturers presented an encompassing view of face recognition, and identified trends for future developments and the means for implementing robust face recognition systems. The scientific programme consisted of invited lectures, three panels, and (oral and poster) presentations from students attending the AS!. As a result of lively interactions between the participants, the following topics emerged as major themes of the meeting: (i) human processing of face recognition and its relevance to forensic systems, (ii) face coding, (iii) connectionist methods and support vector machines (SVM), (iv) hybrid methods for face recognition, and (v) predictive learning and performance evaluation. The goals of the panels were to provide links among the lectures and to emphasis the themes of the meeting. The topics of the panels were: (i) How the human visual system processes faces, (ii) Issues in applying face recognition: data bases, evaluation and systems, and (iii) Classification issues involved in face recognition. The presentations made by students gave them an opportunity to receive feedback from the invited lecturers and suggestions for future work.

Book Intelligent Perceptual Systems

Download or read book Intelligent Perceptual Systems written by Vito Roberto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-11-10 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perceptual processes in humans and machines, investigated and simulated by means of the computational approach, are the subject matter of this volume. Researchers in artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and psychology discuss aspects of vision, speech understanding, sensory-motor coordination, and their interplay with cognitive and behavioral functionalities. The papers adopt the computational approach as the basic research paradigm. Connectionist models, numerical and statistical techniques, symbolic (logic-based) formalisms, and hybrid representations provide the formal background to the research. Some of the papers were prepared for a workshop held in Trieste, Italy, in October 1992.
