Book The Mighty Hand of God for Times Like These

Download or read book The Mighty Hand of God for Times Like These written by Matt Buckles and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2023-04-05 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you ever wonder what the Bible means when referring to the mighty hand of God or how His hand would apply to your own life? Matt Buckles and his daughter Kendra Watson, both devoted believers, weave biblical references to the hand of God with real-life stories to ignite the faith of believers and to inspire nonbelievers to find the Lord. They reveal how the hand of God is still at work, showing the truth of what is in God’s heart and how He keeps His promises to those who believe. They also answer questions such as: • How can we make a spiritual connection between the biblical account of God’s hand at work to His hand upon us today? • What can we learn from examples that seem to suggest we are trapped in a downward spiral of humanity? • How can we defend the historical Christian faith and oppose the progressive, deadly version of it? Fellow believers must unite to trust, love, and serve our Heavenly Father, who seeks to work in each one of you, as He has done in us. By spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and extending His kingdom through discipleship, you’ll be carrying out what God wants you to know and do.

Book excerpt: The Riding is the story of Neil Campbell, a nave and idealistic truck-dealer and avid fisherman from the small town of Blackfly Arm, Ontario, who finds himself running for, and elected to, the Canadian Parliament when Gertrude Entwistle, the member representing his constituency (or riding), has a nervous breakdown and quits politics. Montague Hanson, a powerful cabinet member in the government, wants to have his own candidate parachuted in to fight the election; while visiting Blackfly Arm during the nomination campaign, he begins a dalliance with Trixie Miller, a local waitress. Despite Montagues best efforts, Neils collection of friends help queer the chances of the other challengers. Neil discovers himself to be a natural orator, and wins the election handily. Montague, admitting defeat, takes Neil under his wing, rather than risk losing influence with the new parliamentarian. Once in Ottawa, Neil befriends television reporter Patsy Bollard, who has covered his campaign; she is attracted to him but he is married, and the relationship stays platonic despite her continuing efforts. Montague, meanwhile, helps Trixie to secure government funding for an exclusive health club in Ottawa. As the year progresses, Neil discovers a real-estate conspiracy involving Montague. He enlists Patsys aid to expose the scandal, but the conspirators have covered their tracks too well. Neils battle against political corruption, and against his growing attachment to Patsy, draw to a climax.

Book Modern Literature and the Tragic

Download or read book Modern Literature and the Tragic written by K. M. Newton and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2008-06-20 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores modern literature's responses to the tragic. It examines writers from the latter half of the nineteenth century through to the later twentieth century who respond to ideas about tragedy. Although Ibsen has been accused of being responsible for the 'death of tragedy', Ken Newton argues that Ibsen instead generates an anti-tragic perspective that had a major influence on dramatists such as Shaw and Brecht. By contrast, writers such as Hardy and Conrad, influenced by Schopenhauerean pessimism and Darwinism, attempt to modernise the concept of the tragic. Nietzsche's revisionist interpretation of the tragic influenced writers who either take pessimism or the 'Dionysian' commitment to life to an extreme, as in Strindberg and D. H. Lawrence. Different views emerge in the period following the second world war with the 'Theatre of the Absurd' and postmodern anti-foundationalism.

Book Weird Science and Bizarre Beliefs

Download or read book Weird Science and Bizarre Beliefs written by Gregory L. Reece and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-10-30 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does the giant Yeti roam the mountain ranges of Tibet? Does a real-life Shangri La lie waiting to be discovered in a Himalayan valley? Do transmissions from lost civilizations beam messages of salvation to humankind? What lost creatures lurk in the murky depths of Scotland's brooding Loch Ness? And who - or what - is responsible for the implacable monoliths which tower over Easter Island? The obsession that so many now have with the uncanny and the unnatural is in itself a mystery. It prompts serious questions which could have remarkable answers. Drinking deep from the wells of esoteric knowledge, Greg Reece undertakes a heroic quest for solutions. Braving the darkest recesses of cult belief, he stalks the twilight borderlands of contemporary culture, where, at the outer edges of mainstream thought, things become downright freaky and outlandish. Taking his life in both hands, the author explores a subterranean cavern reputed to be the home of elusive blue-skinned troglodytes; goes hiking in the backwoods for a glimpse of Bigfoot; investigates the truth of Alternative Archaeology in search of Atlantis; and tests for himself the time-travel and anti-gravity theories of famed inventor Nikola Tesla. Unashamedly revelling in the unexplained, Weird Science and Bizarre Beliefs is both a penetrating analysis of the hidden underbelly of science, pseudo-science and religion as well as an unforgettable journey into the innermost depths of the fantastic, the extraordinary and the peculiar.
