Book A Method for Calculating the Interaction of a Bow Shock of a Re entry Vehicle and a Blast Wave

Download or read book A Method for Calculating the Interaction of a Bow Shock of a Re entry Vehicle and a Blast Wave written by Thomas D. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general technique for computing the transient flow field in the nose region of a blunt body traveling at hypersonic speeds after being intercepted head-on by a shock wave is presented. The method is not limited to the assumption that the density, pressure and velocities are constant in the interaction region which has been the assumption in previous investigations of this problem. The technique can be applied to compute the flow in the entire interaction region, but is discussed here for computing the low near the axis of symmetry. (Author).

Book Head on Interaction of Shock Fronts and Bow Waves of Re entry Vehicles

Download or read book Head on Interaction of Shock Fronts and Bow Waves of Re entry Vehicles written by Belmont S. Evans and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report outlines in detail a method for calculating resultant shocks produced by head-on interaction of a shock front with the bow wave of a re-entry vehicle. The latest available equation of state for air data was used in calculating shock conditions for a number of altitudes, R/V velocities, and shock overpressures that are assumed to be of greatest interest in ABM problems. While the calculations described involve primarily a bow wave and a shock, the same methods apply to the head-on interaction of two planar shock fronts.

Book Shock shock Interaction Theory Including Real Gas and Three Dimensional Effects

Download or read book Shock shock Interaction Theory Including Real Gas and Three Dimensional Effects written by Thomas D. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents a numerical technique which can be employed to study the interaction of two nearly planar shock waves. The technique is applied to the head-on interaction of a blast wave and a bow shock of a re-entry vehicle. The application is limited to the axis of symmetry of the flow field. Real gas effects are included by allowing gamma (the adiabatic gas constant) to vary across flow discontinuities. The values of gamma are determined from curve fits to Gilmore's Tables. Three dimensional effects are incorporated in the study by using re-entry flow field calculations to obtain velocity gradients and flow conditions behind the re-entry bow shock. A computer program for the IBM 7090-94 which was developed to perform the shock-shock interaction study is given. (Author).

Book Axisymmetric Interaction of a Blast Wave with the Shock Layer of a High speed Blunt Body

Download or read book Axisymmetric Interaction of a Blast Wave with the Shock Layer of a High speed Blunt Body written by William McNamara and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A finite-difference method is developed for treating the interactions of a blast wave and the shock layer in the nose region of a high-speed blunt body. The body may be of any blunt shape which can be represented by a connected series of straight-line segments. The investigation is restricted to head-on axisymmetric interactions in the blunted nose region. The numerical procedure is based upon an acoustic modification of the finite-difference method of Godunov, and employs a floating Eulerian mesh which is attached to the bow shock and to the body. The mesh is periodically realigned to follow, in a Lagrangian fashion, the primary contact surface resulting from the blast-wave bow-shock interaction. Comparisons with steady-state solutions show an accuracy of better than 5 percent, and comparisons with some preliminary experimental data suggest an agreement of better than 25 percent for interaction calculations. It is concluded that the numerical code could be extended to more downstream regions of the body, and for greater usefulness should include real-gas effects. (Author).

Book Two shock Interaction in a Region of Non uniform Flow

Download or read book Two shock Interaction in a Region of Non uniform Flow written by Walter D. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of a plane blast wave with the nonuniform shock layer of a hypersonic blunted wedge is calculated using the method of characteristics, and the properties behind the reflection of the refracted blast wave from the wedge surface are found. The calculations are carried out for both a perfect gas and for air in thermodynamic equilibrium, including the effects of dissociation and ionization, and for uniform and nonuniform shock layers. A description is given of the FORTRAN computer program which was developed to perform the numerical calculations. A study is made of the influence of the nonuniform shock layer on the surface pressure at the blast wave reflection point; it is found that a substantial change in surface pressure results from the nonuniformity of the shock layer under certain flight conditions which are characteristic of a re-entry vehicle. Book Blast Effects

    Book Details:
  • Author : Isabelle Sochet
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2017-12-22
  • ISBN : 3319708317
  • Pages : 199 pages

Download or read book Blast Effects written by Isabelle Sochet and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compiles a variety of experimental data on blast waves. The book begins with an introductory chapter and proceeds to the topic of blast wave phenomenology, with a discussion on Rankine-Hugoniot equations and the Friedlander equation, used to describe the pressure-time history of a blast wave. Additional topics include arrival time measurement, the initiation of detonation by exploding wires, a discussion of TNT equivalency, and small scale experiments. Gaseous and high explosive detonations are covered as well. The topics and experiments covered were chosen based on the comparison of used scale sizes, from small to large. Each characteristic parameter of blast waves is analyzed and expressed versus scaled distance in terms of energy and mass. Finally, the appendix compiles a number of polynomial laws that will prove indispensable for engineers and researchers.

Book Oblique Shock Interaction Experiments

Download or read book Oblique Shock Interaction Experiments written by David L. Merritt and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A description is given of a unique experimental technique for simulating the interaction between a re-entry vehicle and an oblique blast wave. The technique combines a ballistics range with a shocktube. Models fly down the range and through the shocktube at an oblique angle. As a model passes through the shocktube, it intercepts a plane shock wave moving down the tube. Sequential photographs show the interaction between the model and the shock wave. Experiments were done with 9- and 15-degree half-angle cone models. The Mach numbers of both the models and the shock waves ranged from 2 to 5. The peak transient pressure on the model resulting from the reflection of the shock wave was calculated using data measured from the photographs. The analysis technique was verified by direct measurements of reflected shock pressures on a stationary cone model. (Author).
