Book From Hell to Heaven

Download or read book From Hell to Heaven written by J.P. Vaswani and published by Gita Publishing House. This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mind can be your best friend; it can also be your worst enemy. The difference between the two is in mind management, self-control over thoughts and desires. As Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani observes in clear and concise words, “So many of our ills would be cured, if only we could change the pattern of our mind. Change the mind, and you change the world...” Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani's formula for transforming our life ‘from hell to heaven’ is quite straightforward and practical, like everything he teaches: “Heaven and Hell are of our own creation,” he tells us. “By thinking heavenly thoughts, we get into touch with heavenly forces and we feel happy – we spread the sunshine of joy wherever we go.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The master is also the greatest disciple. The followed is the biggest follower. And in his humility lie the greatest lessons of life. The first thing that strikes the author about Dada Vawasni is his extraordinary humility and how his laughter reaches his sparkling eyes—the signs of a great master and yet a reluctant one at that. Their conversations are light, fun and full of cheer and yet, within them there is the depth and wisdom of life and beyond. What is prayer? What are the duties of a householder? What is the life of surrender... Their talks range from the concept karma to the role of the guru; from leading a spiritual life to the light of God. And within these questions and conversations are answers to the many spiritual questions that a seeker might have. Conversations with Dada Vaswani is a spiritual biography and a journey; it is also dialogue between the Sage and the seeker...

Book excerpt: "It is better to be aflame for an instant, rather than smoke away for ages!" This is the injunction given by a brave mother to her defeated warrior son in the ancient epic, the Mahabharata. It is indeed an exhortation to all of us, defeated souls, to live life as it ought to be lived, to be fired by the highest ideals and values which make our lives truly meaningful. Life may be short, but it need not be small! How can we live such a life? How can we light up the brilliant flame of true living? Dada J P Vaswani shows us the way of inspiration. He tells us to read about the lives of the saints, the great ones of East and West who came to bless all people of all faiths. Even if we are able to imbibe one ideal from one of them and translate it into deeds of daily living, our lives will not be in vain. In this book he tells us about saints, ancient and contemporary, whom he reveres. Here we get to know about the saints from Dada's own unique and loving perspective. Book The Penguin Book of Classical Indian Love Stories and Lyrics

Download or read book The Penguin Book of Classical Indian Love Stories and Lyrics written by Ruskin Bond and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2000-10-14 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compilation of love stories and poems from the classical literature and folklore of India Set in regions of great natural beauty where Kamadeva, the god of love, picks his victims with consummate ease, these stories and lyrics celebrate the myriad aspects of love. In addition to relatively well-known works like Kalidasa's Meghadutam and Prince Ilango Adigal's Shilappadikaram, the collection features lesser-known writers of ancient India like Damodaragupta (eighth century AD), whose 'Loves of Haralata and Dundarasena' is about a high-born man's doomed affair with a courtesan; Janna (twelfth century), whose Tale of the Glory-Bearer is extracted here for the story of a queen who betrays her handsome husband for a mahout, reputed to be the ugliest man in the kingdom; and the Sanskrit poets Amaru and Mayaru (seventh century), whose lyrics display an astonishing perspective on the tenderness, the fierce passion and the playful savagery of physical love. Also featured are charming stories of Hindu gods and goddesses in love, and nineteenth-century retellings of folk tales from different regions of the country like Kashmir, Punjab, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Both passionate and sensuous in its content, this book is sure to appeal to the romantic in all of us.

Book Faith Movements and Social Transformation

Download or read book Faith Movements and Social Transformation written by Samta P. Pandya and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-11 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the role of Hindu-inspired faith movements (HIFMs) in contemporary India as actors in social transformation. It further situates these movements in the context of the global political economy where such movements cross national boundaries to locate believers among the Hindu diaspora and others. In contemporary neoliberal India, HIFMs have become important actors, and they realize themselves by making public assertions through service. The four pillars of the contemporary presence of such movements are: gurus, sociality, hegemony and social transformation. Gurus, who spearhead these movements, create a matrix of possible meanings in their public discourses which their followers pick up to create messages of personal and social change. Sociality is a core strategy of proliferation across such movements and implies social service, which is qualified by memories of the guru and what they are believed to embody. Hegemony is reflected in the fact that social service in such movements often ominously imbibes right-wing or far-right Hinduism. They propose a model of Hindu-inspired social transformation, involving faith building into and transforming the civil society. The book discusses in a nuanced way several Hindu-inspired faith movements of various hues which have made national and international impact. This topical book is of interest to students and researchers in the fields of sociology, anthropology, social work, and social psychology, with a special interest in the study of religious movements.
