Book Simulation of Mechanized Log Harvesting Systems

Download or read book Simulation of Mechanized Log Harvesting Systems written by Christoph Wiese and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this research is to develop a personal computer based simulation model of the mechanized logging process, from felling until the log arrives at the sawmill. The SLAM II simulation language is used for modeling, and the main emphasis is on the overall performance of this system, and the interaction between the individual components. The main approach will be, to break the logging process down into its components. Each component can then be analyzed and modeled to form a modular system. By giving the components/modules of a specific operation, these modules will then be arranged in the desired order by the simulation processor. Thus, the variations of a system can be explored and evaluated in their performance for different machine configurations. The possible machine configurations for a particular environment can be tested and compared. A front-end interface for simulation inputs and outputs is developed. The input interface facilitates the user in entering input parameters to the model without the need to learn the simulation language. The output interface produces easy to understand and readable outputs.

Book Performance and Graphics Enhancement of the LOGSIM Mechanized Log Harvesting System Simulator

Download or read book Performance and Graphics Enhancement of the LOGSIM Mechanized Log Harvesting System Simulator written by J. Alexander Moss and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this research concentrates on enhancement of the LOGSIM mechanized log harvesting system simulator. Enhancement of software focuses on overall improvement of the user environment as well as improvement of the performance and capabilities of the simulation package. An enhanced version of the front-end interface program is developed to improve the model definition and editing environments. Features for assessing degree of convergence for important summary statistics and for balance of material flow are implemented in a graphical output interface that functions independently of the LOGSIM software. A new method for modeling machine processing times was also added. To illustrate how the entire simulation package is used, an example simulation session is provided. A harvesting system is simulated, results are interpreted, and model input parameters are altered to improve the harvesting system's performance. The result of this research is an enhanced version of LOGSIM that functions efficiently and is easier to use.

Book Simulation for Harvesting of Aquatic Plants

Download or read book Simulation for Harvesting of Aquatic Plants written by Eugene R. Perrier and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a computer program entitled 'Simulation for Harvesting of Aquatic Plants (SHAP), ' and provides instructions and guidelines in planning for mechanical harvesting of plant-infested areas. The model provides a stochastic simulation that evaluates the harvesting system. SHAP utilizes linear programming theory for network flow analysis and queuing theory and is designed for using minimal input data in a conversational manner; that is, the user interacts directly with the program and receives output immediately. The model has been verified using field data collection records. The terrain subroutine organizes irregularly shaped plant-infested areas to be harvested into a distance-flow network (grid). The harvesting subroutine directs the harvesting procedure., The harvester (Aqua- Trio Equipment Co.) mows the aquatic plants; the transporter loads the plants and takes them to the conveyor located on the shoreline. The plants are then transferred from the transporter, via the conveyor, onto a dump truck for disposal at a convenient location. When the mowing, transporting, and disposal operations area complete, the statistics of time and queing operations for each component are computed. Operational costs are complied for each component (default 1977 dollars), including labor, supplies, and power costs required by the harvesting system. No prior experience with computer programming is required since all commands necessary to use SHAP are presented in this report. (Author).

Book Development of control concepts for improved driving dynamics of harvesting machines with large headers

Download or read book Development of control concepts for improved driving dynamics of harvesting machines with large headers written by Benedikt Jung and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the driving dynamics of harvesting machines with large harvesting heads. It looks at how to efficiently use these machines. The author explores a common problem that hinders machine performance when harvesting with very large headers. He deals with concepts for reducing the undesired effects of vehicle dynamics when using these machines. With the steadily increasing capacity of harvesting machines, the working widths of the harvesting heads get wider and the headers get heavier. It has become essential with these giant headers to use header height sensors and header control systems to avoid the headers from being run into the ground when encountering elevation changes in the terrain. A fundamental limitation of the viable speed of header height adjustments arises from the combination of the wider and heavier headers with soft agricultural tires. The current solution to find an appropriate speed of header height adjustments is to perform a header calibration whenever a new header is attached to the machine and to endow the machine operator with the capability to tweak the speed of adjustments manually. The result of an inappropriate speed of height adjustments is a reduction in overall productivity and an under-utilization of the harvesting machine. The author looks at ways to prevent this. He offers detailed modeling of the vertical dynamics including dynamic wheel loads. In addition, the book contains results from simulations and machine tests.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 34 (thesis year 1989) a total of 13,377 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 184 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 34 reports theses submitted in 1989, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
