Download or read book La gloria de Dios written by Guillermo Maldonado and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Many believers ask, “Does God speak to us today?” “Is Jesus just a historical figure, or is He really the living Christ?” “Can the Lord still do the same miracles the Bible talks about?” God has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His glory is not just a theoretical concept—it is a heavenly reality that every believer can experience now. “Religion” can never produce a supernatural experience with God because it is void of the glory and life of the Lord. You can move beyond practicing religion to having an encounter with your heavenly Father—the Father of glory. With The Glory of God Bible study, you will learn to combine your scriptural knowledge with revelation and allow God to manifest His glory through you. Each lesson will help you to move from foundational biblical doctrine to an exciting, purposeful life in which you experience the God of the Bible—the God of glory—every day as you become a carrier of His transforming, healing presence to the world. This course is designed as a stand-alone Bible study. It may be completed independently by individual students or be used in a group setting, such as a Bible study, a Sunday school class, a course on the foundations of the Christian faith, or a prayer group.

Christian preaching is a God-appointed means of transforming its hearers in both head and heart. With clear examples of specific methods, Piper shows preachers how and what to communicate from the pulpit in a way that takes seriously the task of handling the word of God week in and week out in the context of, and as, Christian worship.

Book scar Romero s Theological Vision

Download or read book scar Romero s Theological Vision written by Edgardo Colón-Emeric and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious book examines Saint Oscar Romero's words to understand how his thoughts fit into the broader context of Catholic theology. On March 24, 1980, Archbishop Óscar Romero was assassinated as he celebrated mass in El Salvador. He was canonized as a saint by Pope Francis on October 14, 2018. Edgardo Colón-Emeric explores the life and thought of Romero and his theological vision, which finds its focus in the mystery of the transfiguration. Romero is now understood to be one of the founders of liberation theology, which interprets scripture through the plight of the poor. His theological vision is most succinctly expressed by his saying, “Gloria Dei, vivens pauper”: “The glory of God is the poor who lives.” God’s glory was first revealed through Christ to a landless tenant farmer, a market woman, and an unemployed laborer, and they received the power to shine from the church to the world. Colón-Emeric’s study is an exercise in what Latino/a theologians call ressourcement from the margins, or a return to theological foundations. One of the first Latin American Church Fathers, Romero’s theological vision is a sign of the emergence of Christianity in the Global South from “reflection” Church to “source” Church. The hope for this study is that scholars in the fields of theology, religious studies, and Latin American studies will be captivated by the doctrine of this humble pastor and inspired to think more clearly and act more decisively in solidarity with the poor.

Download or read book Colonial Angels written by Elisa Sampson Vera Tudela and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-06-28 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spain's attempt to establish a "New Spain" in Mexico never fully succeeded, for Spanish institutions and cultural practices inevitably mutated as they came in contact with indigenous American outlooks and ways of life. This original, interdisciplinary book explores how writing by and about colonial religious women participated in this transformation, as it illuminates the role that gender played in imposing the Spanish empire in Mexico. The author argues that the New World context necessitated the creation of a new kind of writing. Drawing on previously unpublished writings by and about nuns in the convents of Mexico City, she investigates such topics as the relationship between hagiography and travel narratives, male visions of the feminine that emerge from the reworking of a nun's letters to her confessor into a hagiography, the discourse surrounding a convent's trial for heresy by the Inquisition, and the reports of Spanish priests who ministered to noble Indian women. This research rounds out colonial Mexican history by revealing how tensions between Spain and its colonies played out in the local, daily lives of women.

Book Las mujeres y la pera

Download or read book Las mujeres y la pera written by Hélène Seydoux and published by Editorial Almuzara. This book was released on 2011-11 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book La eugenesia y otras desgracias

Download or read book La eugenesia y otras desgracias written by Gilbert Keith Chesterton and published by Espuela de Plata. This book was released on 2012-11-29 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

  • Author : Thomas E. Sheridan
  • Publisher : University of Arizona Press

  • Pages : 512 pages

Download or read book Empire of Sand written by Thomas E. Sheridan and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the earliest days of their empire in the New World, the Spanish sought to gain control of the native peoples and lands of what is now Sonora. While missionaries were successful in pacifying many Indians, the Seris--independent groups of hunter-gatherers who lived on the desert shores and islands of the Gulf of California--steadfastly defied Spanish efforts to subjugate them. Empire of Sand is a documentary history of Spanish attempts to convert, control, and ultimately annihilate the Seris. These papers of religious, military, and government officials attest to the Seris' resilience in the face of numerous Spanish attempts to conquer them and remove them from their lands. Most of the documents are being made available for the first time, while the few that have been published are extremely difficult to find. They include early observations of the Seris by Jesuit missionaries; the collapse of the Seri mission system in 1748; accounts of the invasion of Tibur¢n Island in 1750 and the Sonora Expedition of 1767-1771; and reports of late-eighteenth-century Seri hostilities. Thomas Sheridan's introduction puts the documents in perspective, while his notes objectively clarify their significance. In a superb analysis of contact history, Sheridan shows through these documents that Spaniards and Seris understood one another well, and it was their inability to tolerate each other's radically different societies and cultures that led to endless conflict between them. By skillfully weaving the documents into a coherent narrative of Spanish-Seri interaction, he has produced a compelling account of empire and resistance that speaks to anthropologists, historians, and all readers who take heart in stories of resistance to oppression.
