About The Book: This book covers one of the most fundamental subjects of Engineering discipline - Strength of Materials, also known as Mechanics of Materials, Mechanics of Deformable Bodies or Mechanics of Solids globally. The subject lays the ground for various Engineering subjects, ranging from Machine Design, Finite-Element Analysis, Theory of Structures, Bio-Mechanics, and Fracture Mechanics. In this book, the topics are broadly divided into two parts: Elementary Strength of Materials and Advanced Strength of Materials, thereby progressing from basic fundamentals to detailed analysis. The first eight chapters deal with basic concepts of strengths of materials such as theories of stress and strain, torsion, deflection and buckling of columns. The remaining chapters deal with the advanced topics such as advanced theories of stress and strain, energy principles, failure theories, theories of curved and continuous beams, unsymmetric or asymmetric bending.

Book Mechanical Design of Machine Components

Download or read book Mechanical Design of Machine Components written by Ansel C. Ugural and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 990 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyze and Solve Real-World Machine Design Problems Using SI Units Mechanical Design of Machine Components, Second Edition: SI Version strikes a balance between method and theory, and fills a void in the world of design. Relevant to mechanical and related engineering curricula, the book is useful in college classes, and also serves as a reference for practicing engineers. This book combines the needed engineering mechanics concepts, analysis of various machine elements, design procedures, and the application of numerical and computational tools. It demonstrates the means by which loads are resisted in mechanical components, solves all examples and problems within the book using SI units, and helps readers gain valuable insight into the mechanics and design methods of machine components. The author presents structured, worked examples and problem sets that showcase analysis and design techniques, includes case studies that present different aspects of the same design or analysis problem, and links together a variety of topics in successive chapters. SI units are used exclusively in examples and problems, while some selected tables also show U.S. customary (USCS) units. This book also presumes knowledge of the mechanics of materials and material properties. New in the Second Edition: Presents a study of two entire real-life machines Includes Finite Element Analysis coverage supported by examples and case studies Provides MATLAB solutions of many problem samples and case studies included on the book’s website Offers access to additional information on selected topics that includes website addresses and open-ended web-based problems Class-tested and divided into three sections, this comprehensive book first focuses on the fundamentals and covers the basics of loading, stress, strain, materials, deflection, stiffness, and stability. This includes basic concepts in design and analysis, as well as definitions related to properties of engineering materials. Also discussed are detailed equilibrium and energy methods of analysis for determining stresses and deformations in variously loaded members. The second section deals with fracture mechanics, failure criteria, fatigue phenomena, and surface damage of components. The final section is dedicated to machine component design, briefly covering entire machines. The fundamentals are applied to specific elements such as shafts, bearings, gears, belts, chains, clutches, brakes, and springs.

Book Strength of Materials Classic Reprint

Download or read book Strength of Materials Classic Reprint written by Erik Oberg and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Strength of Materials It may be said, in a general way, that when designing machinery the designer must take into consideration two main factors. One is to so design the mechanism mechanically that the various motions required can be obtained by means of the machine. The other is to so proportion the parts that they will be strong enough to do the work for which they are intended Without breakage and, in most cases, without distortion. A third factor also enters prominently into the design, that Iof_so designing a machine that the various parts can be easily manufactured, but this last factor, while commercially fully as important as the other two, has not a direct bearing upon the actual working of the completed mechanism. The subject that will be dealt with in this Reference Book relates to the second of the two main questions affecting the design, that of proportioning the parts so that they will be strong enough to properly do the work for which they are intended. This problem, in turn, may be divided into two sections, one of which deals with the determining of the forces which act upon a machine part, tending to. Break or distort it, and the determination of the actual proportions necessary to resist these forces. The science of determining the forces acting upon a machine part or, in general, upon an engineering structure, is termed mechanics, this word being used in its more limited sense, often referred to as theoretical mechanics. The problem of actually determining the dimensions of details of machines or structures with regard to their strength is covered by that part of mechanical knowl edge which is known as the strength of materials. It should be under stood, however, that the question of determining the forces acting upon an engineering structure or machine and the determination of the actual dimensions and materials required to resist these forces, are so closely connected that in dealing with the strength of materials we must also deal, to a very large extent, with the mechanical theory of forces. Book Strength of Materials

Download or read book Strength of Materials written by William Charles Popplewell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-11 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Strength of Materials: A Manual for Students of Engineering The greater part' of the matter contained in the following pages is based on the notes of lectures given to the day and evening students at the Manchester Municipal School of Technology during the last five sessions. The book is intended for the use of those students of engineer ing who are desirous of obtaining a working knowledge of the fundamental principles involved in problems of machine and structural design. It should be found useful to candidates for the Third and Honours stages of the Examinations of the Board of Education, the examination for the admission of Associate Members to the Institution of Civil Engineers, as well as the examinations in the Engineering Schools of the Universities. It will be seen that special attention has been paid to the unequal distribution of stress, and to the limits of elasticity in iron and steel. Many of the examples quoted are taken from experimental results obtained by the writer or his students. It is also to be noted that the majority of the proofs given are similar to those used in most of the text-books. The author desires to acknowledge his indebtedness to the many writers of books and scientific papers to which he has referred in collecting these notes. W. O. P.
