Book excerpt: Read Wendy Shanker's blogs and other content on the Penguin Community. From the author of The Fat Girl's Guide to Life—an insightful and humorous memoir of one woman's quest to navigate the world of alternative healing. At age 33, Wendy Shanker was on the verge of Have It All-itis: a Midwestern girl living in Manhattan, writing for television, mingling with celebrities, and publishing her first book. Plus, she had a fierce haircut. Life was good. Then suddenly, it wasn't. Diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, Wendy knew she was in for it- at the very least a cocktail of chemo and steroids (certain to challenge her body image), a bustling career put on hold, and a major hurdle to her dating life. When she ran out of medical options, Wendy found herself exploring everything from acupuncture, colonics, and energy healing to detox retreats, tarot card readers, and an intuitive therapist who wanted her to talk to her liver. Surely there must be a guru somewhere who can fix everything-right? Watch a Video

Book Don t Waste Your Cancer

Download or read book Don t Waste Your Cancer written by John Piper and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2011-01-27 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How are we as Christians called to respond when cancer invades our lives, whether our own bodies or those of our friends and family? On the eve of his own cancer surgery, John Piper writes about cancer as an opportunity to glorify God. With pastoral sensitivity, compassion, and strength, Piper gently but firmly acknowledges that we can indeed waste our cancer when we don't see how it is God's good plan for us and a hope-filled path for making much of Jesus. Don't Waste Your Cancer is for anyone touched by a life-threatening illness. It first appeared as an appendix in Suffering and the Sovereignty of God. Repackaged and republished, it will serve as a hope-giving resource for healthcare workers, pastors, counselors, and others caring for those with cancer and other serious illnesses. The booklets are also available in packs of ten.

Book The Message of the Accidental Mystic

Download or read book The Message of the Accidental Mystic written by Imma Andkaer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long time ago, back in the 1960s, a close friend asked me to go along with him to a book signing in Sausalito, California. I was introduced to the author. He was a recognizable and quite famous old man. As a portrait artist, I looked closely at the bright blue eyes of a once-handsome man. He said, "Will you come and visit me in San Francisco sometime?" "Yes, I will," I replied and didn't think much about it. But within a few weeks my friend was asked by the old author to visit, and I was asked to go along. We arrived that morning to a sunny, tiny apartment. We greeted the old man, and he ushered us in. His apartment walls were covered with newspaper clippings, neatly framed. There was not a bare spot among all the signed photos of famous movie stars of days gone by. Evidently he had been very well known in the movie world too. He sat us down for a cup of tea. Then he turned to me and said, "Can I tell you things of your life? Experiences you've had and didn't have and your destiny. I will record it and put it on reel to reel for you." "Of course," I said, as I was very curious of what he might know about me. And so he talked about me and was very accurate. Then he took my hand and moved closer to me, close to my face. He said, "You have something to tell the world, the entire world. I don't know what it is, but it is the entire world." But all was forgotten for more than fifty years. A few weeks ago, Michael and I were talking about the old man. What if this was all destined--Michael's gift of seeing in the spirit as Kirilian afterimage? My search for healing and search for God? Were we destined to be together? So we decided to ask! "Was the old man right? Was I destined to write this book and tell what has been revealed?" Michael touched my head and the touch revealed, YES. I asked out loud, "Who is the book for?" The touch revealed, THOSE WHO SEEK AND LOVE GOD, THE LOST WHO NEED HELP. "Is Michael a prophet?" we asked. NO. "What is Michael? What is this ability he has?" we asked. The touch revealed, UNIQUE. And so each day, as I study scripture, I ask the questions, some about the future. There are some unanswered questions. The Lord Jesus gave these statements without my questioning: HEALING OF THE WOUNDED SPIRIT. SEVERE NUCLEAR ACCIDENT INDIA. LEARN SEED PROPAGATION. PREPARE. MY RETURN. REJOICE. The material from the touch is growing into the next book. The next book will probably be easier to write.

Book My Manifest and the Grail

Download or read book My Manifest and the Grail written by Imma Andkaer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-05-16 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was quite by accident that Imma Andkaer first learned that her husband, Michael, could see into a person’s aura and witness injury, disease, and a variety of emotions such as anger, love, hate, and fear. In her memoir, My Manifest and the Grail, Andkaer traces a journey into a fascinating, hidden world just beyond our sight, in which everything we think and believe produces the energies of love or hate. Andkaer chronologically shares her experiences, beginning with a traumatic childhood during which her mentally ill mother was taken away from their family. She continues through her adulthood as she married, overcame a near-death experience, became pregnant, and eventually divorced the man who had come to manipulate her at every turn. As she reveals how she bravely faced life alone as a single mother of a cherished son, Andkaer recalls a dark time; she attempted suicide and wondered if anyone would ever understand her pain. It was only when she vowed to heal herself from within that she began to see visions that took her on an empowering journey to the truth. My Manifest and the Grail shares one woman’s incredible life story as she unites her spirit with the “Touch” to offer an important message of healing.

Book Not Your Usual Boob

Download or read book Not Your Usual Boob written by MK Meredith and published by MK Meredith. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Reader, When I got my breast cancer diagnosis, I was immediately inundated with books on Cancer. They terrified me. So, this book...is Not Your Usual Boob. A little informative, a little sarcastic, a little funny—I hope—and a lot real. This is the book I wish I could have read in my time of need. A little bit of what you can expect during your journey, and how to prepare yourself with a healthy mindset and coping skills before they’re needed. The #NoFilter is exactly that...no filter on the front cover—me and all my wonkiness with no photoshop—and it’s what you’ll find inside these pages—including an F-bomb or five. Because more important than shielding myself is being real with you. You may laugh, you may cry, you may want to punch me in the face...but in the end, remember this. If you ever meet me, I’m hugging you. Because that’s me. And more than anything, that is the big reason behind this book. I am still ME. And YOU are still YOU. XO ~ MK Meredith
