Book Strengthening Support for Labor Migration in Tajikistan

Download or read book Strengthening Support for Labor Migration in Tajikistan written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Migration for work is an important livelihood option for many households in Tajikistan due to limited job opportunities. Remittances from migrant workers significantly supplement the country’s foreign currency reserves, but the economic crisis and worldwide shutdown induced by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have caused international migration flows to fall, and remittances are projected to decline significantly. This publication reviews the state of international migration out of Tajikistan and identifies the impact of COVID-19 on the movement of people and migrant workers, in particular. It also reviews international best practices and proposes appropriate predeparture programs, post-return services for Tajik migrants, and ways to address migrate worker issues related to the pandemic.

Book Teenagers Literacy and School

Download or read book Teenagers Literacy and School written by Ken Cruickshank and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-09-27 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique and timely book follows the experiences of four Arabic teenagers, their families and their community, focusing on the role of literacy in their daily lives and the differences between home and school. The author looks at the conflict between expectations and practices at school and in the home, arguing that problems are inevitable where class and cultural differences exist. Emerging themes include: how literacy practices in the community are undergoing rapid change due to global developments in technology how the patterns of written and spoken language in English and Arabic in the home are linked with social practices in logical and coherent ways how many of the family practices that differ from school culture and language become marginalised. Built around these insightful case studies yet grounded in theory, this book is of immediate relevance to teachers working in multicultural contexts and students and lecturers in language/literacy or on TESOL courses.

Book Sheffield s Great War and Beyond 1916 1918

Download or read book Sheffield s Great War and Beyond 1916 1918 written by Peter Warr and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2015-08-30 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is out of the ordinary. As well as describing the many changes in Sheffield between 1914 and 1918, it tells about the troubling events in following years as poverty and riots took hold.It is also special in identifying hundreds of small as well as large Sheffield companies that worked to provide the necessities of war. With many previously-hidden facts, the book describes the city's 'national factories', the new Ministry of Munitions, the government's control of companies, arguments about the employment of women, an increased emphasis on workers' welfare, the impact of the Sheffield Committee on Munitions of War, and the special contributions of the Cutlers' Company.Compulsory call-up, conscientious objectors and the work of the Sheffield Military Tribunal are also brought to life, as are problems caused by a shortage of food and the eventual imposition of rationing. The city's German prisoners of war are introduced, as are the ravages of influenza and the terrible poverty and conflict that soon afflicted the city. These local changes are presented against a background of important national events and with more than 100 original photographs.
