Book A Library of Prompt Detonation Reaction Zone Data

Download or read book A Library of Prompt Detonation Reaction Zone Data written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables are given listing literature data that allows calculation of sonic reaction zones at or near steady-state for promptly detonating explosive cylinders. The data covers homogeneous, heterogeneous, composite, inorganic and binary explosives and allows comparison across the entire explosive field. Table 1 lists detonation front curvatures. Table 2 lists Size Effect data, i.e. the change of detonation velocity with cylinder radius. Table 3 lists failure radii and detonation velocities. Table 4 lists explosive compositions. A total of 51 references dating back into the 1950's are given. Calculated reaction zones, radii of curvature and growth rate coefficients are listed.

Book Detonation Reaction Zones in Condensed Explosives

Download or read book Detonation Reaction Zones in Condensed Explosives written by C. M. Tarver and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental measurements using nanosecond time resolved embedded gauges and laser interferometric techniques, combined with Non-Equilibrium Zeldovich--von Neumann--Doring (NEZND) theory and Ignition and Growth reactive flow hydrodynamic modeling, have revealed the average pressure/particle velocity states attained in reaction zones of self-sustaining detonation waves in several solid and liquid explosives. The time durations of these reaction zone processes is discussed for explosives based on pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), nitromethane, octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX), triaminitrinitrobenzene(TATB) and trinitrotoluene (TNT).

Book Detonation Reaction Zone Studies on TATB Explosives PBX 9502 95

Download or read book Detonation Reaction Zone Studies on TATB Explosives PBX 9502 95 written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interface velocity histories between heterogeneous detonating explosives and transparent windows, separated by a thin (13 .mu.m) aluminum shim, have been obtained with an image-intensified rotating-mirror streak camera and a Fabry-Perot velocity interferometer system. Seven TATB-based explosives were studied with PMMA windows for typically three charge lengths. Two of the explosives were also studied with LiF windows. In each case a non-steady detonation was observed, with each increasing charge length showing a corresponding increase in the interface velocity histories. Time resolution and velocity error are estimated to be about 6 ns and 2%, respectively. Numerical simulations for one of the explosives, for which a shock-strength modified Arrhenius rate law (DAGMAR) and an assumed equation of state (HOM) had been previously calibrated wth shock initiation gauge data, gave good agreement with the experimental velocity histories. 19 refs., 8 figs., 2 tabs.

Book The Impedance Mirror Technique for Measuring Detonation Reaction Times

Download or read book The Impedance Mirror Technique for Measuring Detonation Reaction Times written by H. Dean Mallory and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental technique is described by which detonation reaction zone structure is rendered visible in high-speed photographs. Using the time- resolving streak camera, the technique yields both induction and reaction times when these separate zones are present. Data on detonating 75/25 nitromethane/ acetone solutions are presented showing good correlation with the Soviet electromagnetic method of measurement. This new technique is more flexible than the electromagnetic method and can yield more data.

Book Reaction Zone During Detonation of Two Phase Mixtures

Download or read book Reaction Zone During Detonation of Two Phase Mixtures written by A. A. Borisov and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The article examines thermodynamic and gas dynamic parameters of wave diffusion and speed of heat evolution in the reaction zone of a combustion chamber during heterogeneous detonation of two-phase mixtures. Combustion of liquid drops (heptane and gaseous oxygen) distributed in an atmosphere of a gaseous oxidizer is compared on the basis of two models: vaporation and crushing. Graphs of parameters of flow given for both models in terms of size of drops shows that combustion speed by vaporization compares to that by crushing only for very small drops.

Book Detonation Reaction Steps Frozen by Free Expansion and Analyzed by Mass Spectrometry

Download or read book Detonation Reaction Steps Frozen by Free Expansion and Analyzed by Mass Spectrometry written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detonation reactions in small pellets of explosive are frozen by free expansion into a large vacuum chamber and analyzed by time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Sensitive explosives like PETN, RDX, and HMX show rapidly evolving reaction zones and mostly simple products like H[sub 2]O, CO, N[sub 2], and CO[sub 2]. Less sensitive explosives like TATB, HNS, and TNT show slower evolution of the reaction zone, and more complex products in addition to the simple ones seen in PETN. Isotopic substitution shows that the more complex products contain moderate amounts of NH[sub 3], HCN, NO, HNCO, and NO[sub 2]. Other observations include polymerization of aromatic explosive molecules, adducts to the explosive molecules, and explosive molecules with functional groups missing. The more complex products are reservoirs of unreleased energy that may affect performance.

Download or read book Restricted Data written by Alex Wellerstein and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2021-04-09 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nuclear weapons, since their conception, have been the subject of secrecy. In the months after the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the American scientific establishment, the American government, and the American public all wrestled with what was called the "problem of secrecy," wondering not only whether secrecy was appropriate and effective as a means of controlling this new technology but also whether it was compatible with the country's core values. Out of a messy context of propaganda, confusion, spy scares, and the grave counsel of competing groups of scientists, what historian Alex Wellerstein calls a "new regime of secrecy" was put into place. It was unlike any other previous or since. Nuclear secrets were given their own unique legal designation in American law ("restricted data"), one that operates differently than all other forms of national security classification and exists to this day. Drawing on massive amounts of declassified files, including records released by the government for the first time at the author's request, Restricted Data is a narrative account of nuclear secrecy and the tensions and uncertainty that built as the Cold War continued. In the US, both science and democracy are pitted against nuclear secrecy, and this makes its history uniquely compelling and timely"--
