If Hubli Junction is an inspiring story about the indomitable spirit of a pretty young woman who sets out on an ambitious journey to give her family a better life, The Intruder is a chilling murder mystery, solved by a newlywed couple in a simplistic style, but with all the trappings of an Agatha Christie mystery. The third story breaks the myth that a teenage love affair is just frivolous. True love can experience a jolt, and how….?? There is no easy way out. Retribution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The 2011 Leap of Faith: Mount Kilimanjaro expedition paired 14 climbers who had either multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease with 14 companion climbers. As with other expeditions, the summit loomed large in the hopes and dreams of the climbers. In the end, 21 of the 28 Leap of Faith team members would indeed make it to the top. But for all the men and woman on this trip, the climb had a higher purpose: to carry the light of hope and a message of strength to the highest reaches of both our planet and the human spirit. These are their stories—stories of fear and pain, of the courage to dig deep into that well of strength that lies within us all, and the willingness to try and try again, even in the face of insurmountable odds. Here are stories of shared joy and faith, stories of people who are more than climbers, on a climb of a peak that was more than a mountain, on an expedition that was more than a climbing journey. Here are the stories of a Leap of Faith.” – EXCERPT BY JEFF RENNICKE, 2011 LEAP OF FAITH:MOUNT KILIMANJARO EXPEDITION PHOTOGRAPHER “Without question, these stories will inspire you and leave you in awe of the power and beauty of the human spirit.” - Phil Bolsta, author of Through God's Eyes: Finding Peace and Purpose in a Troubled World "An exhilarating adventure on many levels worth reading."- Christopher Luzzio, MD, Neurologist "I have read all the exciting books by Krauker and Viesturs regarding climbing; More than a Mountain can be proudly shelved next to them.”- Dr. Jay L. Download or read book Skateboarding and the City written by Iain Borden and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skateboarding is both a sport and a way of life. Creative, physical, graphic, urban and controversial, it is full of contradictions – a billion-dollar global industry which still retains its vibrant, counter-cultural heart. Skateboarding and the City presents the only complete history of the sport, exploring the story of skate culture from the surf-beaches of '60s California to the latest developments in street-skating today. Written by a life-long skater who also happens to be an architectural historian, and packed through with full-colour images – of skaters, boards, moves, graphics, and film-stills – this passionate, readable and rigorously-researched book explores the history of skateboarding and reveals a vivid understanding of how skateboarders, through their actions, experience the city and its architecture in a unique way.
Download or read book A LEAP OF FAITH written by Ellen G. Horovitz and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new book A Leap of Faith: The Call to Art, Horovitz examines the diverse and convergent roles of the therapist as artist, writer, mother, teacher, and clinician. This new book questions what is essential in art therapy and engages authentic positioning in and out of the therapeutic office. This return to art, or the "call to art," changed the author’s identity and efficacy as a therapist. Artwork, fiction, and clinical work transform as insight occurs. The casework throughout the book provides models for integrating the assessment and intuitive features of art therapy educator and clinician. Horovitz' own work and that of her clients is shared without guile. In this book, the myth of clinician neutrality is broken and instead the author's focus is on bringing one's conscious self to work in order to become more authentic with oneself and one’s clients. This state of "elemental play" perpetuates that connection with the patient as another human being on the trajectory towards wellness. The fundamental process of art making that guides personal and professional life is described as "elemental play." Play is seen as the intrinsic element of the art making process that offers directions for resolution of conflicts, the evolution of personal growth, and ultimately 'soulution.' This concept of an artistic "soulution" offers the necessary elements of healing and transformation. For any reader, whether trained in art therapy or not, A Leap of Faith: The Call to Art validates the transcendent aspects of art creativity, and play.
Download or read book A Leaf In The Bitter Wind written by Ting-Xing Ye and published by Anchor Canada. This book was released on 1998-03-16 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the best ways to understand history is through eye-witness accounts. Ting-Xing Ye’s riveting first book, A Leaf in the Bitter Wind, is a memoir of growing up in Maoist China. It was an astonishing coming of age through the turbulent years of the Cultural Revolution (1966 - 1974). In the wave of revolutionary fervour, peasants neglected their crops, exacerbating the widespread hunger. While Ting-Xing was a young girl in Shanghai, her father’s rubber factory was expropriated by the state, and he was demoted to a labourer. A botched operation left him paralyzed from the waist down, and his health deteriorated rapidly since a capitalist’s well-being was not a priority. He died soon after, and then Ting-Xing watched her mother’s struggle with poverty end in stomach cancer. By the time she was thirteen, Ting-Xing Ye was an orphan, entrusted with her brothers and sisters to her Great-Aunt, and on welfare. Still, the Red Guards punished the children for being born into the capitalist class. Schools were being closed; suicide was rampant; factories were abandoned for ideology; distrust of friends and neighbours flourished. Ting-Xing was sent to work on a distant northern prison farm at sixteen, and survived six years of backbreaking labour and severe conditions. She was mentally tortured for weeks until she agreed to sign a false statement accusing friends of anti-state activities. Somehow finding the time to teach herself English, often by listening to the radio, she finally made it to Beijing University in 1974 as the Revolution was on the wane — though the acquisition of knowledge was still frowned upon as a bourgeois desire and study was discouraged. Readers have been stunned and moved by this simply narrated personal account of a 1984-style ideology-gone-mad, where any behaviour deemed to be bourgeois was persecuted with the ferocity and illogic of a witch trial, and where a change in politics could switch right to wrong in a moment. The story of both a nation and an individual, the book spans a heady 35 years of Ye’s life in China, until her eventual defection to Canada in 1987 — and the wonderful beginning of a romance with Canadian author William Bell. The book was published in 1997. The 1990s saw the publication of several memoirs by Chinese now settled in North America. Ye’s was not the first, yet earned a distinguished place as one of the most powerful, and the only such memoir written from Canada. It is the inspiring story of a woman refusing to “drift with the stream” and fighting her way through an impossible, unjust system. This compelling, heart-wrenching story has been published in Germany, Japan, the US, UK and Australia, where it went straight to #1 on the bestseller list and has been reprinted several times; Dutch, French and Turkish editions will appear in 2001.
Download or read book As a Driven Leaf written by Milton Steinberg and published by Jason Aronson. This book was released on 1987 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A spirited classic of American Jewish literature, a historical novel about ancient sage-turned-apostate Elisha ben Abuyah in the late first century C.E. At the heart of the tale are questions about faith and the loss of faith and the repression and rebellion of the Jews of Palestine. Elisha is a leading scholar in Palestine, elected to the Sanhedrin, the highest Jewish court in the land. But two tragedies awaken doubt about God in Elisha's mind, and doubt eats away at his faith. Declared a heretic and excommunicated from the Jewish community, he journeys to Antioch in nearby Syria to begin a quest through Greek and Roman culture for some fundamental irrefutable truth. The pace of the narrative picks up as Elisha directly encounters the full force of the ancient Romans' all-consuming culture. Ultimately, Elisha is forced by the power of Rome to choose between loyalty to his people, who are rebelling against the emperor's domination, and loyalty to his own quest for truth.--Publishers Weekly
Download or read book Tightrope written by Nicholas D. Kristof and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • With stark poignancy and political dispassion Tightrope addresses the crisis in working-class America while focusing on solutions to mend a half century of governmental failure. This must-read book from the authors of Half the Sky “shows how we can and must do better” (Katie Couric). "A deft and uniquely credible exploration of rural America, and of other left-behind pockets of our country. One of the most important books I've read on the state of our disunion."—Tara Westover, author of Educated Drawing us deep into an “other America,” the authors tell this story, in part, through the lives of some of the people with whom Kristof grew up, in rural Yamhill, Oregon. It’s an area that prospered for much of the twentieth century but has been devastated in the last few decades as blue-collar jobs disappeared. About a quarter of the children on Kristof’s old school bus died in adulthood from drugs, alcohol, suicide, or reckless accidents. While these particular stories unfolded in one corner of the country, they are representative of many places the authors write about, ranging from the Dakotas and Oklahoma to New York and Virginia. With their superb, nuanced reportage, Kristof and WuDunn have given us a book that is both riveting and impossible to ignore.

It takes courage, sometimes an enormous amount, to admit you have been wrong, especially if you have been wrong for a long time. All of us are prodigals at one time or another in our lives and with our relationships. We give up on God. He never gives up on us. We might look at our lives and say, "Yeah, I know He forgives, butHe would never forgive me. Look at what I've done." Well, He knows every beat of our hearts, every breath we take. He certainly knows the bad we've done and the good we've done. He's there, waiting.

He dropped it while kissing it and the tiny leaf landed on the earth in the middle of a forest, among thistles and nettles. Here is the tale of a most mysterious plant... Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author, poet and artist. Celebrated for children’s literature, his most cherished fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Little Match Girl". His books have been translated into every living language, and today there is no child or adult that has not met Andersen's whimsical characters. His fairy tales have been adapted to stage and screen countless times, most notably by Disney with the animated films "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 and "Frozen", which is loosely based on "The Snow Queen", in 2013. Thanks to Andersen's contribution to children's literature, his birth date, April 2, is celebrated as International Children's Book Day.
