Book A Laboratory Guide in Histology Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Laboratory Guide in Histology Classic Reprint written by Leslie Brainerd Arey and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Laboratory Guide in Histology The purpose of this book is to furnish laboratory instructions adapted for use in any standard course of normal Histology. With the exception of gross anatomy, no laboratory subject today enjoys more uniformity of presentation than does Histology. In the study of the fundamental tissues greater flexibility of treatment exists than in the microscopic anatomy of organs, yet in both definite routine structures must be observed and their inter-relations and significance emphasized. For this reason it is hoped that a laboratory guide designed to accomplish these ends, without reference to the peculiarities of any particular course, may prove useful. For the most part, directions involving fresh tissues and organs, or specially stained and treated preparations, illustrative of uncommon features, have been omitted. This is done not with the intention of minimizing their importance, but because it is in these minutiae that courses vary most. An attempt has been made to put the treatment throughout on an inductive basis. Rather than presenting a mere list of structures to be identified, in so far as is practicable, the student is led to scrutinize, explain, and reach independent conclusions. The frequent interjection of appropriate queries should relieve the instructor of much tedious and often belated individual quizzing and directing. Book The Art of Examining and Interpreting Histologic Preparations

Download or read book The Art of Examining and Interpreting Histologic Preparations written by William J. Krause and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2004-05 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The examination and interpretation of tissue sections seen under the light microscope in a laboratory setting is an example of student-directed, independent problem solving. The proper reading of a histologic section is an acquired art that can only be developed through practice, close observation and repetition. This laboratory manual was designed as a guide for students to aid them in this endeavor. The laboratory study guide/manual was designed to be used as a supplement to any current textbook and/or atlas of Histology. Learning objectives provide the overall goals for each chapter. The narrative of the study guide explains how to systematically breakdown, examine and interpret each tissue and/or organ encountered, without regard to a given histologic slide from a specific slide collection. Thus, this systematic method can be used to examine and interpret histologic preparations from any collection or of any species. The student is encouraged to sketch, label and create a personalized atlas while using this laboratory manual as a guide. The vocabulary that should be developed and used during the laboratory can be found quickly by going to the bold face type in the appropriate segment of the text. Each chapter contains one or more tables in which key structures used in the identification of a tissue/organ are presented, offering the briefest possible summary of important histologic features. As a final short review, an appendix provides summary tables that compare and contrasts the basic differences of several structures that are somewhat similar in general architecture.

Download or read book A Laboratory Guide for Histology written by Irving Hardesty and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Laboratory Guide for Histology: Laboratory Outlines for the Study of Histology, and Microscopic Anatomy The purpose of this little book is economy of time and labor for both the Instructor and Student. It is a common experience in our Anatomical Laboratories that the student taking courses in Histology and Microscopic Organology spends a large part of his time in doing tilings which arc not essential to the accomplishment of the actual purpose of the courses. He wastes time in vague application of histological technique which is involved in neither the title nor the real purport of the work. He proceeds to study a subject without a definite concept of what is best to be done and how best to go about it, and without forethought of economic distribution and use of his time. He will begin a drawing from a preparation without having first decided what special features the drawing should most advisably illustrate, without having thought out the amount of magnification and the style of drawing most suited to the purpose. The too frequent consequence is that the time allotted to a course is so poorly utilized that the student actually covers a far smaller portion of the ground purported to be the object of the course than he may be led to cover if guided in a more definite manner as to what to do and how to proceed. This Laboratory Guide, therefore, is offered to the student and instructor with the hope that it will be an aid toward the accomplishment of a greater amount of that work which may lie correctly designated The Study of Histology and Microscopic Anatomy, and an aid, further, toward an improvement in the quality of that work. On the other hand, it is not intended that it shall, in any way, lessen the tendency to nor decrease the amount of independent work on the part of the student as regards all the essential features of his studies. Kather, the suggestion and stimulation of independent thought has been kept in mind throughout the construction of the guide. The Outlines as here given embody what the author has used with his classes during the past six years. Corrected and revised from year to year, (hey have heretofore been issued to the student in mimeographed form and. in their revision, restriction has been more and more made to those studies deemed most essential and to the amount of work which experience has shown that the average class in Histology may be induced to cover in the allotted time. As offered by the author, the entire work has required the equivalent of three three-hour periods per week throughout one school year.
