Book A Kinetic Theory of Gases and Liquids Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Kinetic Theory of Gases and Liquids Classic Reprint written by Richard D. Kleeman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Kinetic Theory of Gases and Liquids In constructing a general Kinetic Theory the problem that presents itself first for investigation is the dependence of the velocity of translation of a molecule in a substance on its density and temperature. It is often assumed that this velocity is the same in the liquid as in the gaseous state at the same temperature. It can be shown, however, that this holds only for each molecule at the instant it passes through a point in the substance at which the forces of the surrounding molecules neutralize each other. The total average velocity corresponding to the whole path of a mole cule is usually much greater than the foregoing velocity in a liquid and dense gas on account of the effect of the molecular forces of attraction and repulsion. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on the Kinetic: Theory of Gases It appears to me that the law of equality of mean kinetic energy for each degree of freedom cannot be reconciled with my proposed form of Q; that in fact the law holds only for the limiting case of a very rare gas. Book An Introduction to the Kinetic Theory of Gases

Download or read book An Introduction to the Kinetic Theory of Gases written by James Jeans and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1982-10-14 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book can be described as a student's edition of the author's Dynamical Theory of Gases. It is written, however, with the needs of the student of physics and physical chemistry in mind, and those parts of which the interest was mainly mathematical have been discarded. This does not mean that the book contains no serious mathematical discussion; the discussion in particular of the distribution law is quite detailed; but in the main the mathematics is concerned with the discussion of particular phenomena rather than with the discussion of fundamentals.

Book Kinetic Theory of Gases Classic Reprint

Download or read book Kinetic Theory of Gases Classic Reprint written by Oskar Emil Meyer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Kinetic Theory of Gases The first edition of this book appeared in 1877, at the time of the most rapid and beautiful development of the kinetic theory of gases. About twenty years before, the founders of the theory, Kroni g and Clausius, had explained the expansive tendency of gases, and had calculated their pressure on the assumption that the smallest particles of gases do not repel each other, but are in rapid motion. From the theory based on this supposition not only were the laws of gases, so far as they were then known, deduced in simplest fashion, but also new laws, hitherto undreamt of, were discovered, which were afterwards confirmed when tested by experiment. These results, which we owe to Maxwell and Clausius, quickly won to the theory many friends and adherents. Book The Kinetic Theory of Gases

Download or read book The Kinetic Theory of Gases written by Stephen G Brush and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-07-28 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces physics students and teachers to the historical development of the kinetic theory of gases, by providing a collection of the most important contributions by Clausius, Maxwell and Boltzmann, with introductory surveys explaining their significance. In addition, extracts from the works of Boyle, Newton, Mayer, Joule, Helmholtz, Kelvin and others show the historical context of ideas about gases, energy and irreversibility. In addition to five thematic essays connecting the classical kinetic theory with 20th century topics such as indeterminism and interatomic forces, there is an extensive international bibliography of historical commentaries on kinetic theory, thermodynamics, etc. published in the past four decades. The book will be useful to historians of science who need primary and secondary sources to be conveniently available for their own research and interpretation, along with the bibliography which makes it easier to learn what other historians have already done on this subject. Contents:The Nature of Gases and of Heat (Boyle, Newton, Bernoulli, Gregory, Mayer, Joule, von Helmholtz, Clausius, Maxwell)Irreversible Processes (Maxwell, Boltzmann, Thomson, Poincaré, Zermelo)Historical Discussions by Stephen G BrushA Guide to Historical Commentaries: Kinetic Theory of Gases, Thermodynamics, and Related Topics Readership: Graduate and research students, teachers, lecturers and historians of physics.
