Book A Kinetic Study of Acrylamide Acrylic Acid Copolymerization

Download or read book A Kinetic Study of Acrylamide Acrylic Acid Copolymerization written by Muhammad Haque and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homo- and co-polymers of acrylamide (AAm) and acrylic acid (or acrylate salt) (AA) or methacrylic acid (MAA)) are important classes of water-soluble polymers due to their numerous applications in fields such as super absorbents, additives in cosmetics, membrane technology, waste-water treatment and oil field operations. These polymers are generally made by free radical polymerization. For copolymerization reactions it is extremely important to know the details of reaction kinetics in order to ascertain the kinetic effects of different reaction parameters, which ultimately dictate final copolymer composition, microstructure and properties. The reactivity ratios for copolymerization of AAm and AA have been shown to be dependent on pH and they also change with reaction solvent. The present experimental investigation has been performed to study the kinetics of copolymerization of these monomers in aqueous and alcoholic media by considering factors such as type of initiator and solvent, and pH, in order to determine how they affect the reactivity ratios of these monomers. Reactivity ratios were determined by non-linear least squares (NLLS) and the error-in-variables-model (EVM) techniques and full conversion range kinetic investigations were carried out to confirm these values.

Book Clarifying Multi component Polymerization Kinetics for Tailoring Properties of Acrylamide acrylic Acid Copolymers for Enhanced Oil Recovery

Download or read book Clarifying Multi component Polymerization Kinetics for Tailoring Properties of Acrylamide acrylic Acid Copolymers for Enhanced Oil Recovery written by Marzieh Riahinezhad and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among water-soluble polymers, copolymers of acrylamide (AAm) and acrylic acid (AAc) are probably the most common and widely used in practical applications. However, information on the kinetics of the AAm/AAc radical copolymerization is rather scarce. It is also clear, after reviewing the literature, that there is much debate about the details of reaction kinetics for this copolymerization. Reactivity ratios for AAm/AAc copolymerization system exhibit considerable scatter in the published literature, and therefore, there was a need for more definitive values for these reactivity ratios. An appropriate methodology, based on the error-in-variables-model (EVM) framework along with a direct numerical integration (DNI) of the copolymer composition model, was applied in order to determine reliable reactivity ratios. The reliability of the results was confirmed with extensive and independent replication. Furthermore, via an EVM-based criterion for the design of experiments using mechanistic models, optimal feed compositions were calculated, and from these optimal reactivity ratios were re-estimated for the first time based on information from the full conversion range. With respect to copolymerization kinetics, the polymerization medium is well known to play a significant role in terms of pH and ionic strength, because of the electrolyte nature of the monomers. The largely unstudied effect of ionic strength on monomer reactivity ratios and copolymerization rate was investigated in detail.

Book Kinetics and Modeling of the Radical Polymerization of Acrylic Acid and of Methacrylic Acid in Aqueous Solution

Download or read book Kinetics and Modeling of the Radical Polymerization of Acrylic Acid and of Methacrylic Acid in Aqueous Solution written by Nils Friedrich Gunter Wittenberg and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The radical polymerization of methacrylic acid, acrylic acid and acrylamide in aqueous solution has been investigated. Detailed kinetic models for both acrylic acid, AA, and methacrylic acid, MAA, have been developed applying the program PREDICI. Good representation of experimental conversion vs. time profiles and molar mass distributions as well as, in case of AA, the branching level could be achieved. The polymerization of MAA has been studied at 35 and 50 °C with focus on the influence of 2-mercaptoethanol, ME, as chain transfer agent, CTA, on reaction kinetics. The rate coefficient of t ...

Book Preparation of Copolymers of Acrylic Acid and Acrylamide for Copper ii Capture from Aqueous Solutions

Download or read book Preparation of Copolymers of Acrylic Acid and Acrylamide for Copper ii Capture from Aqueous Solutions written by Yudong Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-linked copolymers of acrylic acid (sodium acrylate) and acrylamide were synthesized by free radical polymerization. The copolymer hydrogel was studied for capture of copper ion from aqueous solution. Effects of macromolecular structure (i.e., content of the acrylic acid, the quantity of the carboxyl groups neutralized with sodium hydroxide, and the degree of cross-linking) on water-sorption and copper ion uptake were investigated.

Book The Complete Book on Water Soluble Polymers

Download or read book The Complete Book on Water Soluble Polymers written by NPCS Board of Consultants & Engineers and published by ASIA PACIFIC BUSINESS PRESS Inc.. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water soluble polymers cover a wide range of highly varied families of products of natural or synthetic origin, and have numerous uses. A water soluble polymer is a polymer that can be diluted in water, with or without the assistance of co solvents and neutralizing agents, to form transparent solutions. They may be classified into two types, totally synthetic polymers and natural products together with their chemically modified derivatives and further can be grouped into three main headings; naturally occurring, semi synthetic and completely synthetic polymers. The water based polymers are quick drying non inflammable, having mild odour and more environmentally acceptability than any other polymers. Most conventional coating polymers at present can be produced in a form that will allow them to be solubilized in water. These include alkydes, polyesters, acrylics epoxies. There are various types of polymerization methods of water soluble polymers such as bulk polymerization, solution polymerization, copolymerization, emulsion polymerization and suspension polymerization. Water soluble polymers are used widely as stabilizers or protective colloids in emulsion polymerization. Its most common use are gum acacia, starch either etherified or in its degraded form, dextrin, polyvinyl alchohol and hydroxyethyl cellulose. Polymers find many applications in oil recovery and production, including areas such as; drilling fluids, cementation of well bore, reservoir fracturing, controlling fluid flow in the reservoir and multistage processes of oil production and refining. The water soluble polymers market encompasses several categories, including starch, cellulose ethers, polyvinylacetate, polyvinyl alcohol and other synthetic water soluble polymers. The starch market is the largest. This book basically deals with flow characteristics of water soluble polymer solutions, emulsion polymerization, water reducible resins, silicone modified alkyds and polyesters, cross linking of water soluble coatings, formulation of water soluble coatings, trouble shooting with water soluble polymers, acrylic solution resins, polyvinylpyrrolidone, commercial uses: compounding and formulating adhesives, methods of polymerization, methods for polymerization of acrylamide, fabrication of water soluble polymers, excluded volume interactions of neutral polymers etc. The book covers classification of water soluble polymers, processes, properties, uses and applications of water soluble polymers with lot of other information. This book will be very resourceful for new entrepreneurs, existing units, technocrats, researchers and technical libraries.
