Book The Dream of Christian Nagasaki

Download or read book The Dream of Christian Nagasaki written by Reinier H. Hesselink and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-12-21 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nagasaki, on the west coast of the Japanese island of Kyushu, is known in the West for having been the target of an atomic bomb attack on August 9, 1945. Less well known is that the city was founded by Europeans, Jesuit missionaries who arrived in the area in the second half of the 16th century. The Jesuits had come to convert the Japanese. After baptizing a Japanese lord or daimyo of the area, they established Nagasaki in 1571 to provide the Portuguese a safe harbor in his domain. Profits for the daimyo and the Japanese who converted to Christianity soon followed. This book is the first comprehensive history in any language of the rise and fall of Christian Nagasaki (1560-1640). The author provides a narrative of the city's early years from both the European and Japanese perspectives.

Book Historical Dictionary of New Religious Movements

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of New Religious Movements written by George D. Chryssides and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2012 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New religious movements--commonly known as cults--are defined as organizations that have arisen within the last 200 years. Most treatments of these movements have typically resorted to sensationalism rather than objectivity, and New religious movements tend to receive negative media publicity. Despite their unfavorable portrayal in popular culture, however, new religious movements are a global phenomenon and much remains to be studied about these movements. In this newly updated second edition of the Historical Dictionary of New Religious Movements, George D. Chryssides traces the rise and development of new religious movements throughout the world. An updated introduction summarizes the phenomenon of new religious movements and lays out the changes to the dictionary since the 2001 edition, while the main body of the dictionary consists of close to 600 cross-referenced entries on key figures, ideas, themes, and places related to various new religious movements. An index organizes the information in the dictionary, and a comprehensive bibliography leads the researcher to further sources. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about new religious movements.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides detailed evidence from everything Jesus prophesied, often broken down to the root definitions of terms from the Greek and Aramaic/Hebrew languages which manuscripts were written in, to show in context by numerous Bible records, how and why those called, Ti (Tee) and Do (Doe) were the new incarnations of the One referred to as the Father and before then, Jehovah and Elohim, with the One who was incarnate in the vehicle (body) named Jesus, and before then Elijah, Moses, Enoch and Adam, who with Their Crew of Student "Saints," were on earth again to fulfill the promised return of Their Kingdom during these "End Times," through Their task recorded as the "Two Witnesses" in the Book of Revelations, that was completed when they exited their incarnations in March of 1997 - seen in the world's news as Heaven's Gate. Ti and Do left extensive records of everything they came to awaken to know over their combined 25 years incarnate. As I spent 19 fully dedicated years with them I drew upon their records and my experience to describe many new translations of terms and new interpretations of most all Book of Revelations records. Finally, I studied world history and current events that can be shown to be valid reference points in many prophecies. This includes many unusual events NASA has photographed in outer space as Jesus prophesied; a cityscape of Lights on dwarf planet Ceres, earth-like qualities to dwarf planet Pluto, hexagon shaped top on Saturn, spire like towers on the Moon, complicated objects that resemble Star Trek's star-ship enterprise in the sun's corona, comets that are comprised of several to seven objects flying in V formation, or having companion objects with them and parts of UFO and Luciferian space alien reports, holograms like Fatima and Spirits. Book The Bible and the American Myth

Download or read book The Bible and the American Myth written by Vincent L. Wimbush and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[T]he problem which this collection of essays addresses is rooted in the fact that no other society in the world is so imbued both with the aura and aroma of the Bible, while simultaneously subjecting it to such parasitic cultural captivity . . . This little book reflects the power of what can happen when bright, passionate minds embrace the problem of the American myth . . . No other American biblical scholar until now has responded more courageously to the issues of deconstructing the American myth . . . What finally matters [here] is that a theologian finally loves the Bible enough, and finally loves his culture enough, to question how both are being used in our time and place for the gain of the few, at the expense of the many." --Charles Mabee, StABH series editor

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all experience seemingly unimportant events throughout our lives like a dangerous childhood act, the coworker we can't get along with, a promotion we desperately want and worked hard for but didn't receive, a lost love interest, some simple expression a teacher said, the time we hurt someone's feelings, the awful thing we said to someone we care about but can't take back, or something horrible we regretted doing. When we recall them from the perspective of life's rearview mirror, we realize these snippets of memory, "snipories"""perhaps trivial at the time""have profoundly impacted the person we have now become. The genre of "snipories" is difficult to classify. It is likely best characterized as a mixture of self-help, introspection, invaluable LEDRSHHIP traits and qualities (that isn't spelled incorrectly, but you have to read the book to understand) along with great advice about how to live a happy and successful life. Snipories contains a powerful, thought-provoking, and compelling message. It is filled with wisdom this country needs to hear. Through Little Stories, the reader is provided sound biblical reasons based on real-life personal experiences they can easily identify with for following the Word of God and living a Spirit-guided life based on Christian tenets. This book is entertaining, thought-provoking, and humorous. Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, religious persuasion, or lack thereof, you will see yourself and someone you know in this book. This book will make you think, and you will enjoy reading it. Snipories, Little Stories, Big Lessons is an absolute must read for everyone.

Book WITNESSES OF JESUS THE NAZARENE

Download or read book WITNESSES OF JESUS THE NAZARENE written by ABNER CESAIRE and published by ABNER CESAIRE. This book was released on 2020-06-04 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We believe that Jesus is our Redeemer, our Savior who was born of a woman, lived, died because of blasphemy, and resurrected. We believe that all the events in His life was to culminate to our redemption by grace from the death sentence in Eden. However, beyond that general portrayal, who is Jesus who was translated from Heaven, miniaturized to a zygote and implanted in the womb of Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit and who went back to Heaven to return again? Unbeknownst to you, the answer to the question of the identity of Jesus in Heaven is a matter of eternal life or eternal death because our salvation depends also on confessing who He is (Romans 10:9 (CLV); 1 Corinthians 12:3). In the language of the translations of the Bible, must we witness and confess that Jesus the Nazareth is LORD|Lord in English or YHWH|ADONAI in Hebrew? Must we also confess and believe His blasphemy in order to be saved? What does it mean to confess that 'Jesus is LORD', according to the Greek manuscript (and not all the translations), since Jesus the Nazarene is already known or referred to as Our Lord Jesus Christ by all? First, set your heart for understanding. Pray. Then, start reading.
