Book excerpt: This anthology fuses an array of poems and short stories, meticulously crafted over many years. It spans a diverse spectrum of themes—from the lighthearted whimsy of comedy to the profound depths of everyday human experiences. The author presents a distinctive perspective on biblical scriptures, enriching them with personal insights and reflections. Moreover, this collection acts as a reflective mirror, capturing the essence of pivotal events and characters that have left an indelible mark on the author’s life journey. In homage to the Bard, the author has skillfully crafted a series of sonnets that honor both the traditional Shakespearean style and the lyrical Italian form. Adding a touch of whimsy, the book includes a selection of limericks, initially penned in jest but now presented for the readers’ delight. The short stories explore themes of unrequited love, sacrifice, forgiveness, fractured vows, the resilience of the human spirit, the devastating impact of war on innocent children, heartbreak, resurgence, the fallibility of human judgment, enduring love, jealousy, and the pain of abandonment. Each story conveys a message that resonates deeply with the reader. The book’s title reflects the author’s transformative journey from the shadows of adversity to the radiant light of divine grace. This profound metamorphosis is delicately woven into the fabric of the poetry and prose, offering readers an intimate glimpse into the soul of a writer reborn. This work is the second installment in a series, following the author’s initial offering, “Of Sadness and Of Pleasure.”

Download or read book Ruby Dreams of Janis Joplin written by Mary Clearman Blew and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2018-09-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Music, whether a Debussy étude or Gram Parsons’s “Hickory Wind,” has been a constant in Ruby Gervais’s life. After Ruby helps fuel a paranoid fervor that spreads like wildfire throughout her rural Montana community, her home life deteriorates. As a sixteen-year-old high school dropout busing tables at the local bar two nights a week, her prospects are uncertain. So when, after her shift one night, the Idaho Rivermen invite her to join their band and head toward fame and fortune, Ruby doesn’t think twice. In Ruby Dreams of Janis Joplin Mary Clearman Blew deftly braids together memories of the past with the present, when the Rivermen have imploded and a severely bruised and disillusioned Ruby returns to her hometown to find everything she ran away from waiting for her. In lyrical yet muscular prose, Blew explores women dealing with the isolation of small towns, the enduring damage done when a community turns against itself, the lasting effects of abuse on the vulnerable, and our capacity to confront the past and heal. Throughout, Ruby Dreams of Janis Joplin is underscored by the music that forms inextricable bonds between Blew’s fascinating characters.

This book was released on 2019-06-30 with total page 1014 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now it is possible for the first time to trace in a systematic way the language patterns of one of the greatest poets who have written in English, W. B. Yeats. Like A Concordance to the Poems of Matthew Arnold, the first of the Cornell Concordances that are under the general editorship of Professor Parrish, this volume was produced on an IBM 704 electronic data-processing machine. Computer technique has so advanced that the Yeats concordance includes punctuation and gives cross references for the second parts of hyphenated words. The frequency of every word in Yeats's poems is given, and an appendix lists all indexed words in order of frequency. The body of this book consists of an index of all significant words in Yeats, each word listed in the line or lines in which it occurs. The concordance is based on the variorum text of Yeats, edited by Alspach and Allt, and includes all variants that occur in printed versions of Yeats's poems.
