Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Twelve Lectures on the History of Pedagogy: Delivered Before the Cincinnati Teachers' Association On this account, too, this little volume will be found more suitable, more fruitful of good results, as a text book in normal and training schools, than more elab orate treatises on the same subject, which, while they pay great attention to dates and minor details, neglect the drift, the essential spirit of the subjects under consideration. In the preparation of the lectures - not originally designed for publication - I made use, in some cases rather freely, of previous publications from my pen, without, however, impairing the value of the sketch. Book Early History of the Cleveland Public Schools Classic Reprint

Download or read book Early History of the Cleveland Public Schools Classic Reprint written by Andrew Freese and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Early History of the Cleveland Public Schools Though there are yet among us those to whom the history of the Public Schools of Cleveland is a matter of personal experience or observation, the exact sequence and relation of events are sometimes recovered with no little difficulty. Had we an unbroken official record of the Schools, there would be still wanting such a narration as would enable us to comprehend the spirit and scope of purpose which have prevailed in the successive stages of progress which have been made, or the causes which have led to occasional retrogression. But, unfortunately, we have no such records from which we may construct even a skeleton of the School history of the last half-century; and, to supply some of the missing parts, we are compelled to rely upon the memory of the older citizens who had, in any way, been connected with the management of the Schools. To prevent the entire loss of interesting and valuable historical material, therefore, it seemed prudent to the Board of Education to put into permanent form a record of the past, from which some estimate may be made of advancement in the present and of progress in the future. Book American Public Schools

Download or read book American Public Schools written by John Swett and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from American Public Schools: History and Pedagogics This book is intended mainly for the great body of American public school teachers, and, incidentally, for library use in normal schools or in normal departments of other institutions of learning, both public and private. The prominence now given to American educational history by the pedagogical departments of universities has led to a similar line of study in many state normal schools. Furthermore, these historical studies have been emphasized during the past decade by a long series of able and exhaustive papers on the history of our public school system, published in the annual reports of the United States Commissioner of Education, and in special Bulletins of Information. But these reports, rich in historical treasures, reach only a small number of the five hundred thousand teachers in our country, and are not available for practical purposes in large classes of normal students. There seems to be room for a hand-book containing a series of studies on the vital points of public school history; and also an outline of the psychological and pedagogical methods of instruction and management in American public schools. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A School History of the United States, From the Earliest Period to the Present Time The present more extended School History of the United States will, it is hoped, supply a long felt want, especially in Catholic establishments. Leaving the track of the usual compendiums, in which an undue influence is given to one section and one element in our country and nation, the author, who has devoted some years to the study of our national history, has endeavored to give equal interest to all. Incidents bearing more especially on the Catholic Church, as possessing greater interest for those for whom the work is intended, are frequently introduced, though not where they possess no general interest.
