Book Memorial of the Centennial Anniversary

Download or read book Memorial of the Centennial Anniversary written by First Presbyterian Church and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Memorial of the Centennial Anniversary: Of the First Presbyterian Church, Augusta, Georgia It is sought herein to preserve in a worthy form the proceedings of that memorable occasion; to garner up the wisdom of many minds and the fruitage of rich and manifold experiences; to tell of the things which we have heard and know and which our fathers have told us. So much of the church's history as could be gathered is herein presented; able addresses on Education, Home and Foreign Missions are made record of; place is given the exercises of the Sabbath school on Centennial Sabbath, and under various and proper headings are set forth several phases of the centennial occasion itself, and also the activities by which we have sought to glorify God. The admirable sermon of Rev. Dr. G. B. Strickler on The Distinctive Doctrines of the Presbyterian Church is reluctantly omitted in the volume because the distinguished author says, I am anxious to pre sent, some time in the future, our distinctive doctrines in a popular form that will commend them to some who now are prejudiced against them. We shall anticipate this intended work from Dr. Strickler with confidence in its great polemical value. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia N C

Download or read book The First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia N C written by Charles F. Daniel and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia, N. C: A History The ensuing pages might well be called the First Addition to the comprehensive and exhaustive history of the First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia, N. C., as compiled in 1948 by the late Hugh A. Query, an elder and clerk of the session. This addition endeavors to depict the major work of the congrega tion between that period and midyear of 1961. Space limitations, naturally, limit many details of the devoted and unselfish work done by various members of the congregation, but major accomplishments have been outlined in an effort to bring before the congregation outstanding accomplishments of the past dozen or more years. Personal references have been made in a few cases primarily as examples of the services rendered throughout the years and of the sted fast devotion to the church and its causes by families now represented by the third, and in some cases, fourth generations. To all who have labored faithfully and in a consecrated manner, the church is deeply indebted and to them is due much credit for the successful activities throughout the years. The compilation of this record was made primarily by Charles F. Daniel, an elder in the church and member since 1944, at the request of the Memorials committee. Mr. Daniel has done extensive research of church records, has made lots of personal interviews, and reminiscences have also had a part in this writing. The Memorials committee hereby expresses its deep gratitude to Mr. Daniel for his faithful and zealous efforts in making possible this first addition to the Church's history. The committee extends its thanks also to all others who have cooperated generously and hopes that this record will be an inspiration to greater achievements in the work of the church.
