Book Oxidation Behavior of Grcop 84 Cu 8cr 4nb at Intermediate and High Temperatures

Download or read book Oxidation Behavior of Grcop 84 Cu 8cr 4nb at Intermediate and High Temperatures written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The oxidation behavior of GRCop-84 (Cu-8 at %Cr-4 at %Nb) has been investigated in air and in oxygen, for durations of 0.5 to 50 hours and temperatures ranging from 500 to 900 C. For comparison, data was also obtained for the oxidation of Cu and NARloy-Z (Cu-3 wt% Ag-0.5 wt% Zr) under the same conditions. Arrhenius plots of those data showed that all three materials had similar oxidation rates at high temperatures (> 750 C). However, at intermediate temperatures (500 to 750 C) GRCop exhibited significantly higher oxidation resistance than Cu and NARloy-Z. The oxidation kinetics of GRCop-84 exhibited a sharp and discontinuous jump between the two regimes. Also, in the high temperature regime GRCop-84 oxidation rate was found to change from a high initial value to a significantly smaller terminal value at each temperature, with progress of oxidation; the two different oxidation rates were found to correlate with a porous intial oxide and a dense final oxide, respectively. Book Long Term Cyclic Oxidation Behavior of Uncoated and Coated Re 108 and In 939 at 980 and 870 C

Download or read book Long Term Cyclic Oxidation Behavior of Uncoated and Coated Re 108 and In 939 at 980 and 870 C written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very long-term cyclic oxidation behavior of Re-108 and ln-939 with and without a protective coating was evaluated at 980 and 870 C, respectively. Re-108 and ln-939 without a protective coating began to show rapid weight loss at 3000 h due to scale spallation, indicating the need for an oxidation protective coating for longer than thousands of hours of oxidative life. NiAl-base coatings of a vapor phase aluminide (VPA), a pack aluminide (CODEP), and a slurry paint aluminide (SERMALOY J) were applied on Re-108 and ln-939. VPA and CODEP on Re-108 and all three coatings on ln-939 showed excellent cyclic oxidation resistance out to 10000 hr. Coated alloys were annealed in an inert atmosphere to determine the loss of Al from the coating into the alloy substrate through diffusion. The Al loss from the coating through diffusion was twice as great as the Al loss through oxidation after 10000 h of cyclic exposure. Oxidation life of VPA-coated Re-108 was estimated by calculating the amount of Al initially available for protective oxidation and the amount of Al lost through oxidation and diffusion. Lee, K. Book Reliability and Maintainability RAM Training

Download or read book Reliability and Maintainability RAM Training written by Vincent R. Lalli and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theme of this manual is failure physics - the study of how products, hardware, software, and systems fail and what can be done about it. The intent is to impart useful information, to extend the limits of production capability, and to assist in achieving low-cost reliable products. In a broader sense the manual should do more. It should underscore the urgent need for mature attitudes toward reliability. Five of the chapters were originally presented as a classroom course to over 1000 Martin Marietta engineers and technicians. Another four chapters and three appendixes have been added. We begin with a view of reliability from the years 1940 to 2000. Chapter 2 starts the training material with a review of mathematics and a description of what elements contribute to product failures. The remaining chapters elucidate basic reliability theory and the disciplines that allow us to control and eliminate failures.

Book Environmental Barrier Coatings

Download or read book Environmental Barrier Coatings written by Kang N. Lee and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global increase in air travel will require commercial vehicles to be more efficient than ever before. Advanced engine hot section materials are a key technology required to keep fuel consumption and emission to a minimum in next-generation gas turbines. Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are the most promising material to revolutionize gas turbine hot section materials technology because of their excellent high‐temperature properties. Rapid surface recession due to volatilization by water vapor is the Achilles heel of CMCs. Environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) is an enabling technology for CMCs, since it protects CMCs from water vapor. The first CMC component entered into service in 2016 in a commercial engine, and more CMC components are scheduled to follow within the next few years. One of the most difficult challenges to CMC components is EBC durability, because failure of EBC leads to a rapid reduction in CMC component life. Key contributors to EBC failure include recession, oxidation, degradation by calcium‐aluminum‐magnesium silicates (CMAS) deposits, thermal and thermo‐mechanical strains, particle erosion, and foreign object damage (FOD). Novel EBC chemistries, creative EBC designs, and robust processes are required to meet EBC durability challenges. Engine-relevant testing, characterization, and lifing methods need to be developed to improve EBC reliability. The aim of this Special Issue is to present recent advances in EBC technology to address these issues. In particular, topics of interest include but are not limited to the following: • Novel EBC chemistries and designs; • Processing including plasma spray, suspension plasma spray, solution precursor plasma spray, slurry process, PS-PVD, EB-PVD, and CVD; • Testing, characterization, and modeling; • Lifing.
