Download or read book Methods in the Theory of Hereditarily Indecomposable Banach Spaces written by Spiros Argyros and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general method producing Hereditarily Indecomposable (H I) Banach spaces is provided. Book Narrow Operators on Function Spaces and Vector Lattices

Download or read book Narrow Operators on Function Spaces and Vector Lattices written by Mikhail Popov and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most classes of operators that are not isomorphic embeddings are characterized by some kind of a “smallness” condition. Narrow operators are those operators defined on function spaces that are “small” at {-1,0,1}-valued functions, e.g. compact operators are narrow. The original motivation to consider such operators came from theory of embeddings of Banach spaces, but since then they were also applied to the study of the Daugavet property and to other geometrical problems of functional analysis. The question of when a sum of two narrow operators is narrow, has led to deep developments of the theory of narrow operators, including an extension of the notion to vector lattices and investigations of connections to regular operators. Narrow operators were a subject of numerous investigations during the last 30 years. This monograph provides a comprehensive presentation putting them in context of modern theory. It gives an in depth systematic exposition of concepts related to and influenced by narrow operators, starting from basic results and building up to most recent developments. The authors include a complete bibliography and many attractive open problems.

Book Open Problems in the Geometry and Analysis of Banach Spaces

Download or read book Open Problems in the Geometry and Analysis of Banach Spaces written by Antonio J. Guirao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-26 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an collection of some easily-formulated problems that remain open in the study of the geometry and analysis of Banach spaces. Assuming the reader has a working familiarity with the basic results of Banach space theory, the authors focus on concepts of basic linear geometry, convexity, approximation, optimization, differentiability, renormings, weak compact generating, Schauder bases and biorthogonal systems, fixed points, topology and nonlinear geometry. The main purpose of this work is to help in convincing young researchers in Functional Analysis that the theory of Banach spaces is a fertile field of research, full of interesting open problems. Inside the Banach space area, the text should help expose young researchers to the depth and breadth of the work that remains, and to provide the perspective necessary to choose a direction for further study. Some of the problems are longstanding open problems, some are recent, some are more important and some are only local problems. Some would require new ideas, some may be resolved with only a subtle combination of known facts. Regardless of their origin or longevity, each of these problems documents the need for further research in this area.

Book Banach Spaces of Continuous Functions as Dual Spaces

Download or read book Banach Spaces of Continuous Functions as Dual Spaces written by H. G. Dales and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-13 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a coherent account of the theory of Banach spaces and Banach lattices, using the spaces C_0(K) of continuous functions on a locally compact space K as the main example. The study of C_0(K) has been an important area of functional analysis for many years. It gives several new constructions, some involving Boolean rings, of this space as well as many results on the Stonean space of Boolean rings. The book also discusses when Banach spaces of continuous functions are dual spaces and when they are bidual spaces.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One problem, considered important in Banach space theory since at least the 1970's, asks for intrinsic characterizations of subspaces of a Banach space with an unconditional basis. Book Walks on Ordinals and Their Characteristics

Download or read book Walks on Ordinals and Their Characteristics written by Stevo Todorcevic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-15 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The walks on ordinals and analysis of their characteristics is a subject matter started by the author some twenty years ago in order to disprove a particular extension of the Ramsey theorem. A further analysis has shown however that the resulting method is quite useful in detecting critical mathematical objects in contexts where only rough classifications are possible. The book gives a careful and comprehensive account of the method and gathers many of these applications in a unified and comprehensive manner.
