Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matt Green's successful capitalist lifestyle is shattered when a trusted property management company mismanages his portfolio, leaving him with vacant rental properties, civil litigation, mounting debts, and the threat of criminal charges for harassment. He meets an enigmatic and alluring woman, Angelique Augusto, on an internet dating site. After two passionate weeks, Angelique begins to show a terrifying side, demanding to know Matt's whereabouts every hour of every day. Then Matt receives a visit from a police detective who questions him in connection with the murder of a man Angelique met on an internet dating site. Frustrated by the Canadian judicial system, his mounting litigation, and his fear of being wrongly convicted of murder, Matt flees with Angelique to the lawless Sierra Madre of Mexico to reunite with Angelique's long-lost sister, Gloria Alvarez. Matt discovers Angelique is a Tarahumara Indian, a descendant of a peaceful and reclusive tribe with the propensity for fierce retribution when their cultural identity is threatened. Unlike the Canadian judicial system, the Tarahumara brand of justice is A Head for an Eye; steal from them and they kill you. While Matt finds Angelique's toughness and passion endearing, her possessive and obsessive behavior makes him suspect she's completely insane, totally capable of and willing to commit murder. Matt is horrified when she joins forces with a drug cartel assassin and orders a hit on a thug she learns has besmirched her family honor. In macabre fashion, A Head for an Eye juxtaposes the ruthless Tarahumara brand of justice with the questionable Canadian justice system, explores the mysterious Indian tribe said to have solved every problem known to mankind, and delivers a gritty and action-packed journey into one of the most murderous and lawless regions in the world.

Includes a sneak peek of The Fever Code, the highly-anticipated conclusion to the Maze Runner series—the novel that finally reveals how the maze was built! The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and the more hacking skills you have, the more fun it is. Why bother following the rules when it’s so easy to break them? But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And one gamer has been doing exactly that, with murderous results. The government knows that to catch a hacker, you need a hacker. And they’ve been watching Michael. If he accepts their challenge, Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid, to the back alleys and corners of the system human eyes have never seen—and it’s possible that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever. The author who brought you the #1 New York Times bestselling MAZE RUNNER series and two #1 movies—The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials—now brings you an electrifying adventure trilogy an edge-of-your-seat adventure that takes you into a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyber terrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares. Book Three dimensional Kinematics of the Eye Head and Limb Movements

Download or read book Three dimensional Kinematics of the Eye Head and Limb Movements written by Hubert Misslich and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-19 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 19th-century pioneers of motor physiology — Helmholtz, Hering, Fick and others — used the mathematics of motion, known as kinematics, to describe the laws of human movement and to deduce the neural control principles underlying these laws. After long neglect — partly due to limitations in stimulation and recording techniques — the kinematic approach is now resurging, fortified with modern computers and electrophysiology. New developments in recording techniques, as well as an improved understanding of the complex control properties of three-dimensional movements, have led to a flood of new research in this area. The classical laws of Donders and Listing have been confirmed and generalized, and computer simulations of the neural control of three-dimensional movement have been developed and tested. In this book, some of the world's leading scientists of motor control discuss how the brain represents and transforms the kinematic variables of movement. Background chapters explain the basic concepts — non-commutativity, redundancy and the classical laws — and their application to normal function and motor disorders, and shorter articles describe current research. The contributions are based on presentations at a symposium held in Tubingen in August 1995. The wide scope of the book should enable researchers to gain an overview of current research, but should also help newcomers to the field to get a good understanding of the questions and problems involved in three-dimensional movement control.

Book excerpt: Head, Eye, and Face Personal Protective Equipment: New Trends, Practice, and Applications presents protective equipment in the context of the latest design trends, materials, and technologies. It informs the reader using basic safety principles to avoid issues with commonly used personal protective equipment (PPE), such as helmets and eye and face protectors. It provides the latest design trends in eye and face protectors to avoid optical hazards and for use in variable lighting conditions. Features: • Fills the gap on current solutions of PPE and occupational safety • Educates in reducing risk connected with using industrial safety gear • Helpful to optometrists in the selection of eye protection for people with visual impairments • Instructs the reader on choosing smart materials and safety products • Provides best practices for checking the technical condition of the equipment This book is essential for the safety professional and medical experts in the field. It provides an interdisciplinary approach to personal protective equipment using new technologies in the field. "The monograph Head, Eye, and Face Personal Protective Equipment - New Trends, Practice and Applications is a complementary and thoughtful but selected compilation of the most relevant information concerning protective helmets as well as eye and face protection. The compilation of these two protection types is the result of the common use of both protective helmets and eye and face protectors. This requires their full compatibility, both in terms of ensuring optimum safety and comfort of use. The authors have chosen the material according to the needs of people directly responsible for safety at work and users of those protectors. The main aim of the work is to popularise knowledge in the field of construction, research methods, selection and use of protective helmets and eye and face protectors. In terms of use, the authors emphasise the necessity of independent control, i.e. checking the technical condition of the equipment used by the end users. The presented monograph includes the current state of knowledge in this scope, extended by the results and summaries of the authors' own research. All requirements and research methods are given based on European (EN), international (ISO) standards and standards operating in different geographical areas. The monograph also encompasses new trends in the design of protective helmets and eye and face protectors. All this allows me to emphasize the uniqueness of this monograph in relation to previous publications in this field, both in terms of the scope and selection of information concerning protective helmets and eye and face protectors." — Ryszard Korycki, Łódź University of Technology

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The picture on the front cover of this book depicts a young man pulling a fishnet, a task of practical relevance for many centuries. It is a complex task, involving load transmission throughout the body, intricate balance, and eye head-hand coordination. The quest toward understanding how we perform such tasks with skill and grace, often in the presence of unpredictable pertur bations, has a long history. However, despite a history of magnificent sculptures and drawings of the human body which vividly depict muscle ac tivity and interaction, until more recent times our state of knowledge of human movement was rather primitive. During the past century this has changed; we now have developed a considerable database regarding the com position and basic properties of muscle and nerve tissue and the basic causal relations between neural function and biomechanical movement. Over the last few decades we have also seen an increased appreciation of the impor tance of musculoskeletal biomechanics: the neuromotor system must control movement within a world governed by mechanical laws. We have now col lected quantitative data for a wealth of human movements. Our capacity to understand the data we collect has been enhanced by our continually evolving modeling capabilities and by the availability of computational power. What have we learned? This book is designed to help synthesize our current knowledge regarding the role of muscles in human movement. The study of human movement is not a mature discipline.
