Download or read book Parent Involvement Programs in California Public Schools written by California. Department of Education. Parenting and Community Education Office and published by Hippocrene Books. This book was released on 1991 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document, which is designed to serve as a resource for school districts that are formulating comprehensive parent involvement programs, provides a representative sampling of parent involvement programs in California. Section 1 lists programs operating at the local educational level that: (1) help parents develop parenting skills and foster conditions at home that support children's efforts in learning; (2) provide parents with knowledge of the techniques they need to help children learn; (3) provide access to and coordinate community and support services for children and families; (4) promote clear two-way communication between the school and the family as to school programs and children's progress; (5) involve parents who have been appropriately trained in instructional and support roles at the school; and (6) support parents as decision makers and develop their leadership, governance, advisory, and advocacy roles. Section 2 represents other sources that were selected for inclusion because they were operating programs or provided services in the listed school districts. Finally, Section 3 describes parent involvement services available from the California Department of Education. Thirty-five references and a copy of the California State Board of Education Policy on Parent Involvement conclude the document. (SAK)
Download or read book Technical Assistance Manual for the California Model School Accountability Report Card written by Greg Geeting and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: California State Proposition 98 requires the governing boards of California school districts to prepare and issue an annual School Accountability Report Card for each elementary and high school under their jurisdiction, beginning in the school year 1989-90. The report card must assess a minimum of 13 specified conditions. This manual provides technical assistance and examples of what report cards for individual schools might contain and how they might be developed. Guidelines for preparing a model report card are provided in the appendix to this manual. Although it is not limited to these areas, each report card must address the following school conditions: (1) student achievement in and progress toward meeting reading, writing, arithmetic, and other academic goals; (2) progress toward reducing dropout rates; (3) estimated expenditures per student and types of services funded; (4) progress toward reducing class sizes and teaching loads; (5) assignment of teachers outside their subject areas of competence; (6) quality and currency of textbooks and other instructional materials; (7) counseling and support personnel availability; (8) substitute teacher availability; (9) safety, cleanliness, and adequacy of school facilities; (10) adequacy of teacher evaluations and professional improvement opportunities; (11) classroom discipline and climate for learning; (12) teacher and staff training and curriculum improvement programs; and (13) quality of instruction and leadership.
