Book Transesophageal Echocardiography of the Tricuspid Pulmonary Valves

Download or read book Transesophageal Echocardiography of the Tricuspid Pulmonary Valves written by Poonam Malhotra Kapoor and published by JP Medical Ltd. This book was released on 2014-04-30 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) test is an alternative way to perform an echocardiogram. An ultrasound transducer, positioned on an endoscope, is guided down the patient's throat into the oesophagus. The test provides a close look at the heart's valves and chambers, without interference from the ribs or lungs. TEE is often used when the results from standard echo tests are not sufficient, or when your doctor wants a closer look at the heart (Cleveland Clinic). This book is a comprehensive guide to TEE of the tricuspid and pulmonary valves, both on the right side of the heart. Divided into three sections, TEE of both valves is discussed in detail, as well as various associated cardiac surgeries. The final section comprises multiple choice questions for revision. This highly illustrated guide includes numerous clinical photographs and diagrams, as well as a DVD ROM demonstrating more than 90 procedural videos to enhance learning. Key points Comprehensive guide to transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) of the tricuspid and pulmonary valves Complete section of multiple choice questions Numerous full colour photographs, diagrams and tables Includes DVD ROM demonstrating TEE procedures

Download or read book Heart Valve Surgery written by Jan Dominik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-26 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: T e four heart valves reside in the center of the heart. T is indicates their crucial role in cardiac performance. Fau- less function of the valves is a prerequisite for unidir- tional forward movement of the blood, and such function is necessary to support the ef orts of the cardiac atria and ventricles. Healthy heart valves function gracefully and of er mechanical durability. Bioengineers have to marvel at the biomechanical evolution of these perfectly placed valves. Heart valves can be involved in pathological processes, however, and only then do we realize just how indispensable they really are. At one time, serious valve disorders used to be a matter of life and death for patients. Only in recent decades have surgeons been able to reverse the ominous course of heart valve disease and of er patients a quality of life and life span comparable to that of healthy persons. T e story of this ef ort began approximately 100 years ago, and today heart valve surgery is a substantial subspecialty of cardiac surgery, with accumulated experience in indications, procedures, risks, and outcomes. T e aim of this book is to present a richly illustrated compendium of the present knowledge related to heart valve surgery, based on the clinical expertise of the authors as well as the newest treatment modalities. T e authors thank Dr. Alireeza Matloobi from the Mayo Clinic for his help in preparating the book.

Book A Handbook of Mitral Valve Disease

Download or read book A Handbook of Mitral Valve Disease written by Alok Ranjan and published by . This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mitral stenosis is due to thickening and immobility of the mitral valve leaflets, resulting in obstruction in blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle. The mitral valve leaflets are thickened and the commissures are fused along with thickening and shortening of the chordae tendineae. This mechanical obstruction leads to increases in pressure within the left atrium, pulmonary vasculature, and right side of the heart; in comparison, the left ventricle is unaffected if there is pure mitral stenosis.

Download or read book Valvular Heart Disease written by Marian C. Hawkey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as the “go-to” resource for cardiovascular nurses and other health care practitioners involved in the care of patients with acquired valvular heart disease. It includes unique information about heart valve anatomy and pathophysiology, the complexity of clinical presentations and diagnostic evaluation, patient education and shared decision-making, surgical and transcatheter treatment options, and transition to palliative care. The content focuses primarily on the specialized care of patients with aortic stenosis and regurgitation, and mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. In addition, this unique resource provides timely information to guide a patient-centred and team-driven approach that reflects contemporary and innovative practice in the management of valvular heart disease. The essential topics of strengthening the multidisciplinary Heart Team and programmatic processes of care, the priorities for nursing care, and the multifactorial challenges of managing this complex patient population are explored in detail. Importantly, this resource aims to support all clinicians who are involved in the various timepoints of patients’ full trajectory of care, from their evaluation pathway, admissions for treatment, and long term follow-up. Clinicians require contemporary knowledge and evidence to guide their practice, provide appropriate care for this complex patient population, and contribute to the advancement of practice. To date, there has been little emphasis placed on the management of valvular heart disease in cardiovascular nursing and allied health curriculum. This book fills this gap and addresses the pressing need for a user-friendly resource to guide the care for this growing population in a rapidly changing clinical environment. The editors are international leaders in the care and management of patients with acquired valvular heart disease and program development. They are widely recognized for their pioneering role in shaping the way we care for these patients.
