Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of Fevers This book pretends to be no more than a handbook for the use of students and general practitioners, and the author has endeavoured as far as possible to confine his attention to the more practical aspects of the diseases under consideration, devoting more space to treatment than many will perhaps approve of. Detailed descriptions of the pathological anatomy of the various diseases have been purposely avoided, and only such points in epidemiology and bacteriology have been dwelt upon as seem to be absolutely necessary. Only those tropical diseases have been included in this small volume as may possibly be met with in Great Britain in the ordinary course of practice. Beriberi has been included since, although it is not strictly a febrile disease, it appears to be due to some specific infection, and is not infrequently seen in our larger seaport towns. Download or read book A Manual of Fevers Classic Reprint written by Claude Buchanan Ker and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Fevers In the preparation of this edition the whole book has been subjected to a thorough revision, and a considerable number of alterations and additions have been made. At the same time every care has been taken to keep the size of the volume within reasonable limits, and with this object in view I have resisted the temptation to add chapters on influenza, poliomyelitis, and encephalitis lethargica. These diseases, however, are only occasionally met with in the fever hospitals, and their omission from a volume primarily intended for students attending classes at those institutions may reasonably be excused. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Panama Canal was the costliest undertaking in history; its completion in 1914 marked the beginning of the “American Century.” Panama Fever draws on contemporary accounts, bringing the experience of those who built the canal vividly to life. Politicians engaged in high-stakes diplomacy in order to influence its construction. Meanwhile, engineers and workers from around the world rushed to take advantage of high wages and the chance to be a part of history. Filled with remarkable characters, Panama Fever is an epic history that shows how a small, fiercely contested strip of land made the world a smaller place and launched the era of American global dominance.

Book Text Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers Classic Reprint

Download or read book Text Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers Classic Reprint written by John W. Moore and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers IT may be desirable to state very briefly the circumstances under which this work has come to see the light. To write a Text-book on Fever while the splendid mono graph of Charles Murchison is our possession to all time may well be deemed presumptuous. But, on the threshold, I would disclaim any intention of allowing the present work hoc parvum opusculum - to enter the lists with that unrivalled masterpiece. However, even since Dr. William Cayley, in 1884, edited, with excellent good taste and literary skill, the posthumous edition of Murchison's Treatise, the study of the Continued F evers has received a great impetus, and the necessity of a sound knowledge of Fever by every practitioner of medicine has been more and more recognised.
