Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Refraction of the Eye: A Manual for Students I have found it necessary in several instances to repeat important matters, and this I have done to obviate the necessity of continual reference to other parts of the book, as well as in some cases to impress the importance of the subject upon the student. The woodcuts are numerous in proportion to the size of the work, but I consider that they are a very great help to the thorough understanding of the subject. The old measurements have been purposely omitted in favour of the almost universally adopted metrical system. It is confusing to the learner to have two distinct sets of measurements to deal with, and no possible good can accrue from perpetuating the old system of feet and inches. At the end of the work I have given a list of those authors to whom I have been indebted for much valuable information; and in conclusion, I take this opportunity of thanking my numerous friends for their help and suggestions.
