Book A HA Performance

Download or read book A HA Performance written by Douglas Walker and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-03 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praise for A-HA! Performance "Since I wrote Choice Theory many years ago, I have come to the conclusion that there is only one major human problem: we have yet to figure out how to get along well with each other. In this book, Walker supports this conclusion with humor, creativity, and great insight. Managers who both follow his suggestions and teach them to those they manage will be rewarded with a happy and profitable workplace. And do it at less cost than the company is spending now." --William Glasser, MD, President and founder,William Glasser Institute, and author of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy "If ever there was a title that perfectly matched the content of a book, this is it. I have never experienced more a-ha's from a book in my life. One of the biggest a-ha's is that you don't build a motivated workforce--you already have one! If you manage people--and especially if you aspire to truly lead people--then this book is required reading. Rock-solid ideas from a master on motivation." --Joe Calloway, author of Work Like You're Showing Off! "An amazingly practical and prodigiously useful resource to help create and bolster a world-class sales force, but also a blueprint for better living in general. An absolute mandatory read for all my employees, not to mention friends and family members. I don't know anyone who couldn't benefit from applying the A-HA model. The title might be more apropos if it were 'Holy cow! Where's this been my whole career?'" --Robert H. Fleet, Branch Manager, National Builder Division, Countrywide Home Loans "A-HA! Performance should be mandatory reading for every manager. Each chapter offers simple and compelling methods for building and managing a self-motivated workforce. The realistic examples presented throughout the book reinforce the steps in the A-HA model and provide the foundation for easy application to professional and personal situations." --Ann Owens, Vice President, Total Rewards Management, QUALCOMM "Avoiding a fight-or-flight reaction from an employee who needs coaching on improved performance or behavior changes requires the manager understand the employee's vested interest. Walker teaches the skills required to effectively create three wins: for the company, the employee, and the manager. It's a must-read for all leaders who want to be more proficient in getting needed performance changes from their employees by improving their own nurturing, coaching, or mentoring skills. I'm reading it for the third time and still gleaning more tips and insights. Even though it's constructed as a managerial self-help book, it's really an insightful, powerful textbook, and as such needs to be studied." --Ron Cook, National Accounts Manager, 3M

Book Performance Under Stress

Download or read book Performance Under Stress written by James L Szalma and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-06-12 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is a dangerous place and recent events have served to make it less safe. There are many arenas of conflict and even combat across the world. Such situations are the quintessential expression of stress; you stand in imminent danger and live with the knowledge that you may be attacked, injured or even killed at any moment. How do people perform under these conditions? How do they keep a heightened level of vigilance when nothing may happen in their immediate location for weeks or even months? What happens when the bullets actually start flying? How is it you distinguish friend from foe, and each from innocent bystanders when in immediate peril of your life? Can we design technology to help people make good decisions in these ultimately hazardous situations? To what degree does your membership in a team act to dissipate these particular effects? Can we generate sufficiently stressful field exercises to simulate these conditions and can we train and/or select those most able to withstand such adverse conditions? How will the next generation of servicemen deal with these inherent problems? These are the sorts of questions that Performance Under Stress addresses. This book is derived largely from a multiple-year, multiple university initiative (MURI) on stress and soldier performance on the modern, electronic battlefield. It involved leading researchers from many institutions who have brought their individual expertise to bear on these crucial, contemporary concerns. United by a common research framework, these groups attacked the issue from different methodological and conceptual approaches, ranging from traditional laboratory modeling and experimentation, to realistic simulations; from involved field exercises to personal experiences of actual combat conditions. The insights generated have been distilled and presented as a benchmark of current understanding and provide future directions for research in this arena. Although this work focuses on soldier stress and soldier performance, the principles that are derived extend well beyond this single application. Their findings can be applied to people facing the demands of the business world or research as much as to those who meet life or death situations, such as homeland security, first responders, and law enforcement personnel.

Book Clients and Users in Construction

Download or read book Clients and Users in Construction written by Kim Haugbølle and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-06-14 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clients have been identified as critical for building delivery but have been under-researched with only a few studies about them. This book seeks to address this gap. A deeper look into the nature of construction clients and their relation to building users exposes more fundamental questions related to the activity of building and the activity in the building. These fundamental questions include 'How do clients get what they want?', 'How do clients cope with the building process?', and 'How are clients being shaped by building(s)?'. This book on clients and users is structured around three main themes: Agency is concerned with the classical agency/structure dichotomy on actions, roles and responsibilities or, put differently, whether actors can act freely or are bound by structural constraints. Governance is related to the interplay between clients and the supply system: clients govern the supply system but are at the same time governed by the supply system through different processes and mechanisms. Innovation deals with construction innovation and what part clients and users play in this struggle between change and stability. The book includes theoretical and conceptual frameworks on what constitutes clients and users as well as case studies on R&D themes of relevance to practice.
