Book E Guide To The Employment of Foreign Manpower

Download or read book E Guide To The Employment of Foreign Manpower written by Vincent Gabriel and published by Rank Books. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Singapore economy has undergone drastic changes. There is less and less of the traditional activities. A simple example is that Singapore has lost its place as the No. 1 port, yet Singapore remains a shipping and maritime hub. Europeans find Singapore a convenient connection to the fast growing business opportunities of China and India and now Burma (also called Myanmar). India and Burma represent the new frontier opportunities — What China was two decades ago of underpriced assets and a labour force willing to put in the effort. Amidst this background the Singaporean worker Gen X vintage is rewarded according to his/her performance. The old cap on wages has been jettisoned. The gap between the average high performer who earns $50,00 and the cleaner who earns $850 is too great to be acceptable. Drastic steps are being taken to bring the definition of low wage to be not less than a $1,000 a month. Creative steps are being undertaken by the government, the labour movement and employees to train and to do whatever is needed to bring up and maintain that wage level. This means that foreigners on work permits should not be brought in, as they tend to cause wages to fall unless these foreigners earn at least $1,300 a month. The relationship between foreigners on work passes and Singaporean workers (at these entry levels) is a love-hate relationship. On the one hand Singapore love to have "maids" (FDWs), marine contractors, labourers, healthcare workers, but on the other hand the 'S' pass holders, the EP holders, who compete with tertiary-educated Singaporean at entry levels the relationship is not so receptive. Young graduates must be given a chance to enter the workforce. This book explains the employment regulations of hiring foreign manpower in Singapore and teaches how you the employer can comply with the Singapore labour laws.

Book Property Labour and Legal Regulation

Download or read book Property Labour and Legal Regulation written by Mark Findlay and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this revealing comparative study, Mark Findlay examines the problematic nexus between undervalued labour and vulnerable migration status in dis-embedded markets. It highlights the frustrations raised by timeless regulatory failure and the chronic complicity of private property arrangements in delivering unsustainable market engagement. Mark Findlay identifies the challenge for normative and functional foundations of equitable governance, by repositioning regulatory principle, to restore dignity to market relations. The accountability of property through wider access and inclusion, it is argued, grounds commodified occupation as a vitally valuable social bond in which workers are empowered to participate rather than suffer exploitation. The comparative analysis of the EU and ASEAN regulatory contexts reveals that it is not simply more regulatory activity, but rather its reversion from market interests to human values, which will advance sustainability. Property, Labour and Legal Regulation offers an insightful, critical analysis of crucial contemporary issues facing social administrators, lawyers and policy makers working in the fields of migration, labour law and regulation. Its broad disciplinary coverage lends itself to students of law and regulation who will benefit from this unique evaluation of private property, labour relations and migration exclusivity.

This book contains teaching notes of the book titled A Handbook of Malaysian Cases: Contemporary Issues in Marketing & Management in which eleven local cases were presented. The teaching notes serve as a guide for instructors who intend to utilize these cases in their classes. Each teaching note includes a brief synopsis of the case, learning objectives, the case's target audience, information about the case leading strategies, relevant concepts/subjects, suggested assignment questions, and their corresponding suggested answers. In this way, the instructors will have greater understanding about the use and applicability of the said eleven cases.
