It also provides an overview of how FTA coordinates disaster relief efforts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Chapter Two provides a series of disaster preparation strategies for transit agencies to consider implementing well before a disaster appears imminent. This includes a selection of recommended practices in the areas of planning, operations, contracts, and asset management that will help a transit system better withstand and more quickly recover from a disaster. Chapter Three includes an overview of key disaster response and recovery programs and resources, including information on disaster relief programs available from FTA, FEMA, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and some non-Federal sources.
