Book Handbook of Complex Variables

Download or read book Handbook of Complex Variables written by Steven G. Krantz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written to be a convenient reference for the working scientist, student, or engineer who needs to know and use basic concepts in complex analysis. It is not a book of mathematical theory. It is instead a book of mathematical practice. All the basic ideas of complex analysis, as well as many typical applica tions, are treated. Since we are not developing theory and proofs, we have not been obliged to conform to a strict logical ordering of topics. Instead, topics have been organized for ease of reference, so that cognate topics appear in one place. Required background for reading the text is minimal: a good ground ing in (real variable) calculus will suffice. However, the reader who gets maximum utility from the book will be that reader who has had a course in complex analysis at some time in his life. This book is a handy com pendium of all basic facts about complex variable theory. But it is not a textbook, and a person would be hard put to endeavor to learn the subject by reading this book.

Replete with realistic, meaningful applications to differential equations, boundary value problems, and Fourier analysis, this unique work is a practical, hands-on manual of real analysis that is ideal for physicists, engineers, economists, and others who wish to use the fruits of real analysis but who do not necessarily have the time to appreciate all of the theory. Valuable as a comprehensive reference, a study guide for students, or a quick review, "A Handbook of Real Variables" will benefit a wide audience.

Book A Guide to Empirical Orthogonal Functions for Climate Data Analysis

Download or read book A Guide to Empirical Orthogonal Functions for Climate Data Analysis written by Antonio Navarra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-05 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climatology and meteorology have basically been a descriptive science until it became possible to use numerical models, but it is crucial to the success of the strategy that the model must be a good representation of the real climate system of the Earth. Models are required to reproduce not only the mean properties of climate, but also its variability and the strong spatial relations between climate variability in geographically diverse regions. Quantitative techniques were developed to explore the climate variability and its relations between different geographical locations. Methods were borrowed from descriptive statistics, where they were developed to analyze variance of related observations-variable pairs, or to identify unknown relations between variables. A Guide to Empirical Orthogonal Functions for Climate Data Analysis uses a different approach, trying to introduce the reader to a practical application of the methods, including data sets from climate simulations and MATLAB codes for the algorithms. All pictures and examples used in the book may be reproduced by using the data sets and the routines available in the book . Though the main thrust of the book is for climatological examples, the treatment is sufficiently general that the discussion is also useful for students and practitioners in other fields. Book Real Analysis

    Book Details:
  • Author : Frank Morgan
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Soc.
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN : 0821836706
  • Pages : 170 pages

Download or read book Real Analysis written by Frank Morgan and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real Analysis builds the theory behind calculus directly from the basic concepts of real numbers, limits, and open and closed sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$. It gives the three characterizations of continuity: via epsilon-delta, sequences, and open sets. It gives the three characterizations of compactness: as ``closed and bounded,'' via sequences, and via open covers. Topics include Fourier series, the Gamma function, metric spaces, and Ascoli's Theorem. The text not only provides efficient proofs, but also shows the student how to come up with them. The excellent exercises come with select solutions in the back. Here is a real analysis text that is short enough for the student to read and understand and complete enough to be the primary text for a serious undergraduate course. Frank Morgan is the author of five books and over one hundred articles on mathematics. He is an inaugural recipient of the Mathematical Association of America's national Haimo award for excellence in teaching. With this book, Morgan has finally brought his famous direct style to an undergraduate real analysis text.

Book The Chicago Guide to Writing about Multivariate Analysis Second Edition

Download or read book The Chicago Guide to Writing about Multivariate Analysis Second Edition written by Jane E. Miller and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2013-09-26 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many different people, from social scientists to government agencies to business professionals, depend on the results of multivariate models to inform their decisions. Researchers use these advanced statistical techniques to analyze relationships among multiple variables, such as how exercise and weight relate to the risk of heart disease, or how unemployment and interest rates affect economic growth. Yet, despite the widespread need to plainly and effectively explain the results of multivariate analyses to varied audiences, few are properly taught this critical skill. The Chicago Guide to Writing about Multivariate Analysis is the book researchers turn to when looking for guidance on how to clearly present statistical results and break through the jargon that often clouds writing about applications of statistical analysis. This new edition features even more topics and real-world examples, making it the must-have resource for anyone who needs to communicate complex research results. For this second edition, Jane E. Miller includes four new chapters that cover writing about interactions, writing about event history analysis, writing about multilevel models, and the “Goldilocks principle” for choosing the right size contrast for interpreting results for different variables. In addition, she has updated or added numerous examples, while retaining her clear voice and focus on writers thinking critically about their intended audience and objective. Online podcasts, templates, and an updated study guide will help readers apply skills from the book to their own projects and courses. This continues to be the only book that brings together all of the steps involved in communicating findings based on multivariate analysis—finding data, creating variables, estimating statistical models, calculating overall effects, organizing ideas, designing tables and charts, and writing prose—in a single volume. When aligned with Miller’s twelve fundamental principles for quantitative writing, this approach will empower readers—whether students or experienced researchers—to communicate their findings clearly and effectively.

Book A Basic Course in Complex Variables

Download or read book A Basic Course in Complex Variables written by David C. Kay and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-09-02 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The calculus of real numbers can be extended to complex numbers, where the definitions and techniques one learns in calculus carry over to complex variables. David C. Kay, who has written several books geared for college students, explains this development in his new book. A short review of basic concepts from real variable calculus appears with each new topic. Differentiation and integration in complex variables is clearly explained, with numerical examples. Other topics include infinite series of complex variables, uniform convergence, the Taylor and Laurent series, and methods for evaluating difficult integrals. Charts, tables, and drawings throughout the book make even tough concepts easy to understand, and problems have been carefully crafted to cover the main concepts while maintaining your interest. Whether you're an educator seeking to provide an additional resource for your students or a student seeking a self-help guide to understand complex variables, the developmental in this book is a refreshing treatment that can be a stand-alone tutorial or companion guide to another textbook.
