Book A Grace Called La Salette

Download or read book A Grace Called La Salette written by Jean Jaouen and published by . This book was released on 1992-03-01 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 19, 1846, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared on the mountain of the French Alps called La Salette. She asked her people to pray daily, to attend Mass at least on Sunday, to do pennance & especially to honor the Lord's day of rest as well as the name of Jesus Christ. Her simple words touched the ills of society inasmuch & the obvious sins of any era are symptoms of more than causes of moral disease. La Salette was approved in 1852 by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Grenoble. The present book describes the children's ordeal as witnesses & their staunch fidelity to the "beautiful Lady." It shows the clear relevancy of the Lady's words today. The most prominent feature of the apparition are the Lady's tears, signs of profound concern & faithful love for all the human race.

Book excerpt: A Grace Called La Salette: a story for the world, contains outstanding pages-probably the best ever written-on the spirituality of La Salette and the religious meaning of the apparition. Father Jaouen ably demonstrates the coherence of the various elements of the discourse and of the vision reported by the witnesses, as well as their agreement with the Gospel taught by the Church. He had been trained for this task at the theological school of the Saulchoir, an institution directed by French Dominicans. Thanks to that training he gave an accurate and balanced interpretation of the warnings voiced by the Lady of the apparition, warnings which have deeply scandalized so many people. According to them, the apparition reflects an unbiblical understanding of God and Christ in presenting the image of a vengeful Christ while reserving for Mary the exercise of mercy.Such objections reflect a radical misunderstanding of the message of La Salette. La Salette does not place the origin of Mary's mercy in herself but in the God who mandated her to pray for us without ceasing. More so, other objections raised against the Christology of the message do not stem solely from a superficial reading of that mes-sage reported by Maximin and Melanie. Their roots go deeper. They arise from a view of Christ's work which reduces his role to that of prophet of the philosophers. According to the New Testament, Jesus is in reality the Messiah of Israel who accomplishes the mission his Father has given Him not simply by teaching, exhorting, protesting against abuses, but also by offering Himself for people and incorporating them into His body. This process necessarily demands from us a response which in the final analysis consists in taking this word of Jesus seriously: "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me" (Matt 16:24). The mercy of Jesus must be read in the light of the cross which, un-fortunately, we too easily dismiss. The message of La Salette can only be grasped in this light. As Father Jaouen points out, the tears shed by the "beautiful Lady" of the apparition place before us the tragic situation of a people who, forgetting Christ and his cross, loses its identity, wastes away and becomes prey to the powers of darkness, not by virtue of an arbitrary decree, but by the nature of things. When oneness with Christ is lost, the baptized person is delivered up to the forces of evil. "If my Son is not to cast you off, I am obliged to entreat Him without ceasing."The present edition, from the foreword to chapter twelve inclusively, reproduces the text of the third edition, the last to appear in Father Jaouen's lifetime and, consequently, the last for which he bears responsibility. We hope that a direct contact with an author who was a master theologian, who had acquired an excellent knowledge of documentary sources, and who was a priest quickened with a deep piety toward Our Lady of La Salette whom he loved to invoke as the Lady of Compassion will help the reader to know better the grace bestowed upon the world on September 19, 1846.Fr. Jean Stern, M.S. Archivist, Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette Rome, 1981

Book Marian Apparitions the Bible and the Modern World

Download or read book Marian Apparitions the Bible and the Modern World written by Donal Anthony Foley and published by Gracewing Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book looks at the major approved Marian apparitions of the last five centuries and relates them to important historical moments: the Reformation, the French and Russian Revolutions, the rise of Nazism. These Marian apparitions, and particularly Fatima, are not historically unimportant events, but rather follow a preordained plan: they have a crucial role in helping us to see how the modern world, with all its problems, has developed. Donal Foley makes clear the fascinating and intriguing connections between Marian apparitions and the Scriptural types of Mary found in the Bible, a crucial element in the theology and exegesis of the early Church Fathers. By understanding these biblical types and their symbolism we see that each of the apparitions has a much greater significance for both the Church and the modern world than has generally been recognised. Here is a convincing demonstration that the future of the Church, and the papacy, is intimately bound up with a proper understanding of the role of Mary: there will only be true peace in the world when her message is accepted and lived. If you thought you really understood how the modern world developed, and the role and meaning of Marian apparitions, then this book will make you think again. 'Donal Foley has written a book with an extraordinary message.' Aidan Nichols, O.P.

Book Salvation Is from the Jews

Download or read book Salvation Is from the Jews written by Roy H. Schoeman and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2019-04-15 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book traces the role of Judaism and the Jewish people in God's plan for the salvation of mankind, from Abraham through the Second Coming, as revealed by the Catholic faith and by a thoughtful examination of history. It will give Christians a deeper understanding of Judaism, both as a religion in itself and as a central component of Christian salvation. To Jews it reveals the incomprehensible importance, nobility and glory that Judaism most truly has. It examines the unique and central role Judaism plays in the destiny of the world. It documents that throughout history attacks on Jews and Judaism have been rooted not in Christianity, but in the most anti-Christian of forces. Areas addressed include: the Messianic prophecies in Jewish scripture; the anti-Christian roots of Nazi anti-Semitism; the links between Nazism and Arab anti-Semitism; the theological insights of major Jewish converts; and the role of the Jews in the Second Coming. "Perplexed by controversies new and old about the destiny of the Jewish people? Read this book by a Jew who became a Catholic for a well-written, provocative, ground-breaking account. Some of the answers most have never heard before." Ronda Chervin, Ph.D., Hebrew-Catholic
