Book Neat Little Rows

Download or read book Neat Little Rows written by Andrew Mark Rudall and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-02-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of his relationship to a First World War soldier fires Andy, the author, with an almost obsessive desire to uncover the whole story. It is the story of a hero from an unlikely background and Andy finds uncanny echoes of it in the 21st century. He tells it with tremendous enthusiasm and attention to detail. The humour and typical 'Black Country' expressions are well known in the area today and would have been very familiar to one very extraordinary Grenadier Guard.

Book Material Women 1750 950

Download or read book Material Women 1750 950 written by MaureenDaly Goggin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the volume's global perspective and comparative framework, this collection contributes to the ongoing scholarly examination of consumption by taking the topic of women, material culture, and consumption into new arenas. The essays explore the connections between consumption and subjectivity; they build upon and complicate the idea that consumption, as a form of meaning making, is key to the construction of gendered, classed, and national identities. Providing a cross-cultural perspective on consumption, the essays are historically specific case studies. While some essays examine women's consumption in a range of Anglophone and Francophone locations, primarily in Britain, France, Australia, Canada, and the US, other essays on Chinese, Senegalese, Indian, and Mexican women's consumption, particularly as it relates to fashion and design, provide a comparative framework that will recalibrate ongoing discussions about consumption and domesticity, dress and identity, and desire and subjectivity. In addition to its focus on gender and consumption, this volume addresses gender and collecting, exploring the tensions between accumulation and systematic collecting. Also examined is the way in which the display of collected objects?in Impressionists' paintings, in mass-produced illustrations, in the glass cases of museums and department stores?participates in the construction of particular identities as well as serving as a kind of value-producing material practice.

Book Environmental Criticism for the Twenty First Century

Download or read book Environmental Criticism for the Twenty First Century written by Stephanie LeMenager and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-05-09 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Criticism for the Twenty-First Century showcases the recent explosive expansion of environmental criticism, which is actively transforming three areas of broad interest in contemporary literary and cultural studies: history, scale, and science. With contributors engaging texts from the medieval period through the twenty-first century, the collection brings into focus recent ecocritical concern for the long durations through which environmental imaginations have been shaped. Contributors also address problems of scale, including environmental institutions and imaginations that complicate conventional rubrics such as the national, local, and global. Finally, this collection brings together a set of scholars who are interested in drawing on both the sciences and the humanities in order to find compelling stories for engaging ecological processes such as global climate change, peak oil production, nuclear proliferation, and food scarcity. Environmental Criticism for the Twenty-First Century offers powerful proof that cultural criticism is itself ecologically resilient, evolving to meet the imaginative challenges of twenty-first-century environmental crises.

Book Entrepreneurial Essence in Family Businesses

Download or read book Entrepreneurial Essence in Family Businesses written by Bernardo Bertoldi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph seeks to identify the mechanism that successfully guides the continuity of the family business through generations. Different perspectives have been used through years: from the identification of the entrepreneurial characteristics to the succession model implemented, and to the educational path for the next generations of entrepreneurs. In this context, the book focuses the attention on the link between different generations of entrepreneurs. In particular, it presents and analyzes the evolutive circle of the family business among generations. This approach permits a holistic view of the intergenerational entrepreneurship within the entrepreneurial families and their businesses. Once intergenerational entrepreneurship has been deeply described, two areas in which the next generation must excel are analyzed: the adaptation to the evolution of the external environment, and the leadership attitude. The author's central message is that evolution happens when the entrepreneurial processes are absorbed by the next generation through the learning of heuristics. Having a leadership style is more than setting a vision, which has to do with strategy and taking important decisions.
