Book A German Invasion Classic Reprint

Download or read book A German Invasion Classic Reprint written by Henry Sewill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A German Invasion I have now examined the problem more completely. I have sought to prove that the German General Staff will never seriously contemplate a descent on our shores so long as our means of defence remain approximately as they stand at present. I have attempted to demonstrate the absurdity of the suggestion that a German attack upon England could take the form of an international duel with the Powers looking on in a neutral ring. I have tried to show that the conflict would set Europe instantly ablaze, and that the ames could not be prevented from spreading far beyond the boundaries of one continent. I have suggested that a policy of wanton aggression would involve the German Empire in political and military perils which her wise and sober statesmen will surely not provoke. Book Beware the German s Peace Classic Reprint

Download or read book Beware the German s Peace Classic Reprint written by Haldane Macfall and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Beware the German's Peace This little book is written in answer to insistent appeals from all over the country - from peers to workers in the steel-yards. Though urged to bring out a cheap edition of "Germany at Bay," I find it impossible to shorten that book without leaving dangerous gaps to understanding. The present work covers that part of the ground which puts the dangers of a patched-up peace before the public. The German Kultur and its creation of Treitschke's State-strategy are simplified, but follow the larger book. The campaigns had to be passed by in order to go into fuller details, not surveyed in the earlier work, concerning what is absolutely needed for the making of any peace on which the safety of the democracies depends. Still, since history presents many instances of Governments acting in Opposition to the true interests of their subjects, and others, hardly less numerous, of individuals or classes working on the passions and fears Of the bulk of the people to bring about a war by which they hope to profit, it is incumbent on Great Britain not to trust too confidently to the enlightened self interest of other nations, and, therefore. Book Hitler Is No Fool Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hitler Is No Fool Classic Reprint written by Karl Billinger and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hitler Is No Fool Today, after more than six years of feverish activities, Nazi Germany is still a mystery to the man in the streets of America. To him the Third Reich appears as a one-man show. He resents a social order built upon terror and fear and is indignant when he reads about Jewish pogroms, threats of invasion, and conquests of weak countries. But he is at an utter loss to explain the miraculous career of the "Austrian housepainter." He might, perhaps, pity the German people. But the longer he sees them ruled by a "fool" or a "madman," the more will his pity change into contempt, the more will his feeling grow that the Germans, after all, deserve a Government which they apparently are not able or even willing to overthrow. For this man in the street the present book is written. It wants to acquaint him with the chief exponent of German fascism, with his ideas and plans and, moreover, with the forces he represents. The best way of doing it might still be to go back to the most authoritative source, Hitler's own book. The world would have been spared much guessing about the essence and aims of the National Socialist regime had it taken the trouble to study the Fuehrer's work carefully. History has seldom offered the opportunity of learning from a dictator himself his most guarded designs before he has been able to carry them out. But how are we to know that Hider who has told so many lies, broken so many promises, and violated so many solemn treaties did not veil and distort the truth in his book? Book The War Against Germany and Italy

Download or read book The War Against Germany and Italy written by John C. Hatlem and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The War Against Germany and Italy: Mediterranean and Adjacent Areas This collection of some five hundred pictures dramatically amplifies the written record of World War II in the Mediterranean Theater and the Middle East. The images freeze in place the soldiers, the weapons, the operations, the geography, and the tenor of the moment. Major General Orlando Ward's Foreword to the first edition (see next page) describes this visual dimension as essential to fully understanding military history. The War/1 gainst Germany and Italy: Mediterranean and Adjacent Areas was one of the first volumes in the United States Anny in World War 11 series, and it has stood the test of time. In its detailed coverage, the book has also served as a useful resource for anyone seeking to illustrate this stage of the war. Although this second edition keeps all the original photographs, captions, and short narrative historical introductions to each section, we have taken sev eral steps to improve the appearance, currency, and utility of the book. We obtained new prints of the photographs to ensure their clarity, replacing the old printing negatives. We also removed outdated references and developed an appendix that provides more detailed information on the sources and cataloging numbers of the photographs to assist those who want to get their own prints. In visually documenting the World War 11 experience, this is an invaluable col lection. In publishing this upgraded edition, we hope to revive and expand the book's effectiveness in promoting an awareness of the determination, courage, and sacrifices of the American soldier in World War 11. Similar second editions of the other two pictorial volumes in the World War series are in preparation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Whether or not Serbia was seriously in the wrong is a matter of opinion, but it is generally held that Austria dealt with her neighbour with too much heat and too little discretion. Austria kindled the flames of war, but it was Germany's mission to seize a blazing torch and set Europe alight. Book Industrial Colonies and Village Settlements for the Consumptive Classic Reprint

Download or read book Industrial Colonies and Village Settlements for the Consumptive Classic Reprint written by German Woodhead and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Industrial Colonies and Village Settlements for the Consumptive Symonds, and we together examined the patients, sampled the climate and other conditions, and argued with Unger and Ruedi. Then for the second time came Hope; more solid Hope. Given a fairly early case, and three years, and recovery was in the offing. And so we went on cheerfully with Davos. But Davos was not for every one; nor was every case an early 'one. Then came the discovery that lower altitudes would do if certain conditions were obtained; and so arose the great sanatorium movement. But slowly we found that patients could not spend their lives in sanatoriums; and one day on making my way up to one of them in England, I met on the way patient after patient, slouching along, bored to death with themselves and with each other; and even worse in morale than in body. Better discipline and better notions of thera peutics mended some of that; still I could not forget those listless saunterers, and it became evident to some of us, however unwillingly, that Hope was drooping again. The sanatorium was doing a great educative work no doubt; but at the end of its four or six months - what then? To send the patient away with recommendations about light jobs, and a regime, was almost a mockery or quite. What about the wage, and the family to be supported? The next lesson was brought home to me by a visit with other commissioners to certain cities, concerning some such problems. Before me now I see a gaunt hollow-eyed man, coughing, and leaning against the wall as he tried to talk to us, saying that his mates when he came out of the sanatorium - good fellows as they were - had bought him a milk that he might creep round, and earn a bit. The brave wife, shawl on head and mill apron on, had just come from the factory, and apologised for the dirty house - as well she might. The poor thing was working all day at the factory to keep the wolf from the door. All being dragged down together into the pit! What is the value of a good house, or a clean house, if no wages! What is there for the children? And what is to stop the infection! Who then would have the imagination, the initiative, the business capacity, to lift this burden, like lifting a world?
