Book A Generalized Simulation Model for Flexible Manufacturing System

Download or read book A Generalized Simulation Model for Flexible Manufacturing System written by Mohammad Ahmad Mansour and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's hypercompetitive business word, the manufacturing of products requires flexibility and agility. Transforming ideas, material, and energy into reality entails the ultimate utilization of the constrained available resources. Production planning and control plays an influential part of sales potential and company growth. An active production plan must adapt with the variability and the uncertainty in the manufacturing process and the market demand. Therefore, a successful plan must have the ability to solve the incoming problem locally. Manpower, material, and budget must be exploited in an effective way. The optimal combination of production rate, work-force level, and inventory on hand is the key to minimizing the total production-related cost over the planning horizon. The assembly line balancing problem can be described as how to assign a sequence of tasks to different work stations. The distribution of tasks among workstations is based on the required time it takes to complete each task and the precedence constraints between these tasks. Achieving balance between the workstations requires dividing the total work content evenly among workstations. The work load of each work station is restricted by the cycle time between the entering of two consecutive product units in the station. In this research, elements of production planning and control will be discussed. A generalized simulation model for a flexible manufacturing system will be introduced. The source of variability is an essential factor in planning under uncertainty, therefore, a stochastic system for single, multi, and mixed model will be simulated to generate a flexible manufacturing schedule that meets all activity precedence constraints.

Book Business Process Modeling Simulation and Design Second Edition

Download or read book Business Process Modeling Simulation and Design Second Edition written by Manuel Laguna and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most textbooks on business process management focus on either the nuts and bolts of computer simulation or the managerial aspects of business processes. Covering both technical and managerial aspects of business process management, Business Process Modeling, Simulation and Design, Second Edition presents the tools to design effective business processes and the management techniques to operate them efficiently. New to the Second Edition Three completely revised chapters that incorporate ExtendSim 8 An introduction to simulation A chapter on business process analytics Developed from the authors’ many years of teaching process design and simulation courses, the text provides students with a thorough understanding of numerous analytical tools that can be used to model, analyze, design, manage, and improve business processes. It covers a wide range of approaches, including discrete event simulation, graphical flowcharting tools, deterministic models for cycle time analysis and capacity decisions, analytical queuing methods, and data mining. Unlike other operations management books, this one emphasizes user-friendly simulation software as well as business processes, rather than only manufacturing processes or general operations management problems. Taking an analytical modeling approach to process design, this book illustrates the power of simulation modeling as a vehicle for analyzing and designing business processes. It teaches how to apply process simulation and discusses the managerial implications of redesigning processes. The ExtendSim software is available online and ancillaries are available for instructors.

Book Simulation Modelling for Business

Download or read book Simulation Modelling for Business written by Andrew Greasley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulation Modelling for Business is a comprehensive textbook ideal for use on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The first section of the book provides a definition of simulation modelling and describes the skills and resources required to undertake a successful simulation study. Types of simulation are assessed and the basic concepts behind the method are outlined. The main part of the book follows the steps involved in conducting a simulation study and provides a practical guide to building a simulation model and to implementing the results.Reference is made throughout to ARENA, SIMUL8 and WITNESS; systems used in industry and widely available to students. Case studies from manufacturing and service industries demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach and chapter questions are provided to assist learning.
