Book Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis

Download or read book Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis written by Sigmund Freud and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 1977 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In reasoned progression he outlined core psychoanalytic concepts, such as repression, free association and libido. Of the various English translations of Freud's major works to appear in his lifetime, only one was authorized by Freud himself: The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud under the general editorship of James Strachey. Freud approved the overall editorial plan, specific renderings of key words and phrases, and the addition of valuable notes, from bibliographical and explanatory. Many of the translations were done by Strachey himself; the rest were prepared under his supervision. The result was to place the Standard Edition in a position of unquestioned supremacy over all other existing versions. Newly designed in a uniform format, each new paperback in the Standard Edition opens with a biographical essay on Freud's life and work --along with a note on the individual volume--by Peter Gay, Sterling Professor of History at Yale.

Book Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique

Download or read book Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique written by Robert J. Langs and published by Jason Aronson, Incorporated. This book was released on 1977-07-07 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Robert Langs collects the most important and creative work ever published on how to do psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique. Practioners should base their studies upon. This revised edition builds upon his previous volume of works, The Therapeutic Interaction, as well as extended the critiques that were included in the earlier book. The book is grouped into subject matters, and then arranged chronologically within each category, so as to provide a sense of growth in psychoanalytic thinking. Beginning with Freud's intrapsychic foundation and oedipal emphasis and spanning all the way to recent contributions. Included are the works of Winncott, the Kleinians, and Greenson, just to name a few. Dr. Langs concludes the volume with a paper of his own addressing the question of the whether the writings constitute a solid foundation or a façade. In any field growth and change are important, yet one can never forget their humble beginnings. Which is why Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique is a tribute to those who struggled to advance the field of psychoanalysis.

Book A General Introduction to Psychoanalysis

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychoanalysis was never just a method of treatment, rather a vision of the human condition which has continued to fascinate and provoke long after the death of its originator. Its central hypothesis, that we live in conflict with ourselves and seek to resolve matters by turning away from reality, did not emerge from experimental science but from self-examination and the unique opportunities for observation presented by the psychoanalytic technique - in particular, from the confessions produced by 'free-association' in Freud's consulting room. Written during the turmoil of the First World War, A General Introduction to Psychoanalysis was distilled from a series of lectures given at Vienna University, but had to wait for the war to end before being made available to the English speaking world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freud's timeless lectures on psychoanalytic thought, dream interpretation, and his theory of the neuroses are presented here in their authoritative translation to English by G. Stanley Hall. First delivered and published between 1915 and 1917, these lectures see a mature Freud expound on his theories and practices which at the time were revolutionary. While generally outdated in the modern setting, the methods detailed were valuable as a benchmark upon which future psychologists and psychiatrists built in subsequent years. Designed to introduce the enthusiastic layman to the psychoanalytic techniques Freud spent decades developing and refining, A General Introduction to Psychoanalysis ranges across several key tenets of Freudian thought. Several lectures concern the means by which dreams may be interpreted as an insight into the state of the patient's psyche, with symbols and memories of the distant past particularly cited.
