Download or read book The Watters Family Classic Reprint written by Dennis Alonzo Watters and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Watters Family HE facts herein presented have been gathered by a somewhat extended research among the volumes of the great libraries of Chicago, Washington, D. Baltimore, Annapolis and elsewhere; from old letters in possession of the family; from, relatives, and from other sources. The research has continued through many years, and during the year of 1911 several months were given to special investigation, and a trip made across the continent to the historic ground in Harford County, Maryland, where our ancestors made their pioneer home on coming to America. The results, although gratifying, are not what they might be were the research continued a reasonable time without hindrance. The discovery of old deeds, wills, land patents, court records, church records and tombstones have brought to light many interesting facts of the family. The gathering of these facts about ancestors long since departed has kindled the heart of the compiler with a new, sweet love for kindred, and the one fond hope entertained is that the eyes of the younger generations of the Watters family falling upon these lines may find incentive to honor their ancestors by a noble life endeavor for the betterment of humanity. How pleasing to learn that many have wrought well, even above the average. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History and Genealogy of the Goodhue Family in England and America to the Year 1890 One thing has been to the advantage of the author; it has been pretty surely proved that all of the name in America have descended from one single source, - William Goodhue, of Ipswich, Mass, who came from England, 1635. Only in one small branch, containing a few families, the connecting links could not be found, although there is but little doubt but that they all belong to the same family. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Grout Family, Vol. 2: Reprinted in Facsimile; From the Genealogy of the Descendants of Several Ancient Puritans by the Names of Adams, Bullard, Holbrook, Rockwood, Sanger, Wood, Grout, Goulding and Twitchell Now if none of Sir Richard Groutte's ancestors, with a Saxon name, reached the Peerage, and he thought to improve his prospects by changing it completely, if not already done, into Norman French, as others certainly did their Saxon names, it is probable that his brothers, if he had any, imitated the example; and that from this family have sprung the Grouts of England and America. But all of the name might have descended from him. If knighted at the age of 25, he might have been the grandfather, and if at the age of 46, the great-grandfather of John and William Grout, the first two of the name mentioned in our records. The non-occurrence of the name of Richard in the family register is no objec tion, because it was a non-scriptural name, and therefore, in the estimation of Puritans, deserved exclusion. For the same probable reason, John Grout named no son for his brother William, who evidently named one for John. That these brothers were the descendants of Sir Richard G. Is inferred from circumstances. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book An Incomplete Genealogy of the Fowler Family Classic Reprint written by H. Alfred Fowler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Incomplete Genealogy of the Fowler Family I attributed the lack of interest in our family history upon the part of our ancestors to a lack of vanity and 'so I stand self-accused of the fault of Narcissus - I only trust that my glances into the placid mirror of the Past will disclose facts that will as thoroughly justify my vanity as his was justified. And now a word in regard to the vanity of a genealogy that term may be and has often been applied to such family records - but not always justly. Is it vanity to record the good deeds done by those who have, borne our name before us? Is it more of a vanity than the historian expresses for a whole nation when he compiles his enormous tomes of history? I think not - and yet if the argument prevail I can but hope that vanity may flourish to this extent in our fam ily - that it may be more in evidence hereafter than hereto fore, leading to an occasional revision and publication of our family history.
