Book A Genealogical History of the French and Allied Families Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Genealogical History of the French and Allied Families Classic Reprint written by Mary Queal Beyer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-08 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Genealogical History of the French and Allied Families The study of genealogy has been for some years on the increase. Many causes have contributed to this. Among them are the patriotic societies whose membership in part at least depends on descent from revolutionary stock. The increasing tendency to reach for baubles in American society causes many a quest for proof of kinship with those in England who have the right to use insignia by heraldic authority. Not a few engage in the search of family history believing that some where in the East or in Europe is a fortune lying unclaimed awaiting its rightful heir. And then there are those whose traits of mind and special tastes lead to this kind of writing for the mere love of the semi mysterious, ever elusive information, lying just beyond reach, the attainment of which is the goal of an aspiration smaller, though no less sincere, than is that of him who explores uncharted seas and sciences. This beautiful book is due neither to a need for proof of patriot or Pilgrim lineage, to a desire of display, nor to the hope of fame or fortune. Mary Queal Beyer has deeply loved her immediate ancestry. She has even deeper love for her living kin by blood and marriage. She has put her thought in printed fact rather than adulation. In the form of a book she has recited a family record, and challenged her descend ants to measure up to a standard high and firm and fixed in the affairs of home and country. Book A Genealogy of the Buford Family in America

Download or read book A Genealogy of the Buford Family in America written by Marcus Bainbridge Buford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Genealogy of the Buford Family in America: With Records of a Number of Allied Families By referring to the extracts given below from old English wills and deeds, it will be seen that the pro genitors of the Bufords in America were in England long before John of Gaunt adopted the name of Beau fort for his children or the French Huguenots had emigrated. John of Gaunt came into possession of the castle of Beaufort, in the Province of Anjou, in France, at the close of the thirteenth century, and from it named his children, by Catherine Swinford Beaufort, with thetitle of Duke of Somerset. This family became extinct with the John, who was exiled to France, and was killed in the Battle of Tewksbury, in 1471. An illegitimate branch of this family was given the name of Somerset, and in 1682 the title Duke of Beaufort. There has been, from the earliest day, a tradition in the family in America that they were descendants of John of Gaunt; but this could be only through the female side of the house, and they could then have no legitimate claim to the name of Beaufort and could come by it only by adoption. Book The Families of French of Belturbet and Nixon of Fermanagh and Their Descendants Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Families of French of Belturbet and Nixon of Fermanagh and Their Descendants Classic Reprint written by Henry Biddall Swanzy and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Families of French of Belturbet and Nixon of Fermanagh, and Their Descendants An attempt has been made in the following pages to put on record what can be discovered concerning the descendants of two Irish families which became allied in 1737 by the marriage of the Rev. Andrew Nixon with Marianne French. The various families detailed on pp. 83-127, are descended from that marriage. The Pubic Record Office contains evidence of the existence of many other persons of the names of French and Nixon, who, from the localities in which they lived, were very probably of the same stock, but as no proof of their relationship has been forthcoming, as a rule they have not been mentioned in the book. It has been found necessary to condense the work as much as possible, and to leave out some biographical details which might have been inserted. I have tried in most instances to give chiefly those which come from unfamiliar sources. The evidence for the earlier generations in the 17th and 18th centuries is in almost every case clear and complete. In the very few instances where the exact connection of certain persons with the family has not been discovered, due mention has been made of the fact. For the details regarding the later generations I have to thank a host of correspondents. In some cases information could not be obtained. I have to acknowledge assistance derived from the genealogical works of Foster and Burke. It would be quite impossible to name all those who have helped me, but my thanks are specially due to Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Izod, Mrs. Oakes, Mrs. J. H. Pigot, Mrs. F. J. B.Priestley, Miss Saxby, Mrs. H. B. Stanford, Mr. G. D. Burtchaell, Dr. Crone, Major Crookshank, Dr. F. C. Crossle, Mr. P. Crossle, Major Gore Little, Mr. E. Higinbotham, Lieut.-Colonel G. H. Johnston, Mr. W. T. Kyle, Mr. 0. F. D. Nixon, Mr. W. Jackson Pigott, Mr. Henry F.Reynolds, Capt. Spedding, the Rev. W.B. Stanford, and Mr. Erskine West for information constantly and freely given. Some further assistance is acknowledged in the foot-notes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Dobyns-Cooper and Allied Families of Ballou, Bramble, Coulter, Credit, Duval, Henry, Kemp, Larew, Lyon, Norwood, Perry, Pierce and Taylor Although Maj. Dobyns reached his 84th year. He was as vigorous in mind and body as most men who are much younger. Which is evidence that he had a remarkably fine constitution. And that he had led a prudent and temperate life. He was regular in his habits. Of a lively and cheerful disposition, and took deep interest in all matters of importance. Whether relating to political. Religious or social affairs. A warm friend of the young - he took delight in conversing with. Encouraging and instructing them. And whenever he discovered evidence of more than ordinary ability in any young man he never failed to recognize it; nor did he lose an opportunity to assist in developing talents. Which too many would prefer to hide or cripple. Maj. Dobyns' views of the nature and genius of the government. He. Inherited from the revolutionary fathers. Who forced the English government to recognize in the treaty of peace of 1783. Which closed the revolutionary war. The independence and sovereignty of the revolted states and colonies. And for the advocacy of these prin ciples held so sacred he was. In the madness of revolution. Banished from his home. An exile on account: of his political opinions. Leaving a home of refinement and of happiness, where nothing was wanting that could contribute to the comfort or happiness of its owner. And dwelling for many years among strangers. Book The Dobyns Cooper and Allied Families

Download or read book The Dobyns Cooper and Allied Families written by Mrs. Aurelia Anna Pierce Ballou and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Dobyns-Cooper and Allied Families: Of Ballou, Bramble, Coulter, Credit, Duval, Henry, Kemp, Henry, Lyon, Norwood, Perry, Pierce and Taylor In October, 1906, the junior author of This work had a pamphlet printed on another branch of this family. The object in getting out this pamphlet, which is similar in scope, is to give those interested an early opportunity of using such information as has been obtained. At a future date it is hoped that the two publications may be combined, along with information still to be obtained, and printed and bound in a manner which may be more suitable and lasting. With the names of the allied families presented in the title, we have only mentioned female members of the Dobyns family who have become allied into other families by marriage. Inasmuch as the greater portion of this history is given to the descendants of James Dobyns and Sarah Cooper, sister to the great grandfather of one of the authors, it was also thought advisable to incorporate her name in the title. The history begins with the first Dobyns who emigrated to America. A pamphlet has already been printed giving the history of the descendants of Jacob Cooper, brother of Sarah Cooper Dobyns and great grandfather of the joint author, W. F. Cooper. In presenting this information, we have followed a chronological order for the members of each family, with the direct descendants of each person down to the present as far as possible. This arrangement is facilitated by reference numbers and back references, as will be observed in the text. We trust that it will serve the purpose quite sufficiently. First Generation (In America). 1. Edward Dobyns was born in England, December 7, 1747. He landed in New York and moved into Culpeper Co., Va. During the Revolutionary War he took part in a number of engagements with Lieutenant Apollos Cooper, and, according to Wm. Ray Dobyns, was present at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown, Va., in 1782. After peace was established he moved into Mason Co., Ky. According to Mrs. Aurelia A. Ballon he married Frances Howe. She as born May 6, 1751, and died Jan. 29, 1821, in Mason Co., Ky. Edward Dobyns died April 5, 1794, and is either buried near Flemingsburg or in Mason Co., Ky., according to most sources of information. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Shine Family in Europe and America In attempting to write the history of a family one meets with many difficulties. The most reliable information to be obtained for a work of this kind is, of course, the records. But it is an endless undertaking to search for records, hidden by years of time, and scattered far and wide. And as such a history begins at a time when few records were kept, and but few of them preserved, the difficulty in procuring satis factory data is quite apparent. After tracing back only a few generations it becomes very uncertain, and unsatisfactory. In obtaining data from those who know, or should know, something of their immediate family history, you are also met with difficulties. Very few take interest enough in their family history to take the time to furnish information to make a satisfactory and complete history of the family. At first my object was simply to track back my own imme diate family to its origin, but in doing so I gathered much information of other families of the name, and concluded to put it all in book form, that it may aid others in writing a more accurate and complete history of the family Shine, or in locating relatives.
