This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Genealogical History of the Felton Family Many years ago we commenced to note down facts, such as marriages, deaths, and other items relating to this family, as we found them in newspapers and books. Some 30 years ago we visited Salem, Marblehead and Dan vers, where the Feltons first settled on arriving in America, and where most of the first three generations lived and were buried. In 1876, being in failing health, we partly gave up farming, and extended our researches to other parts of the state (even to Philadelphia, at the time of the centennial exhibition, ) and the next year, 1877, we brought out the Felton Family pam phlet of 19 pages, giving some account of 40 to 50 families that lived before this century. Had 70 copies printed and disposed of them in nine months, and not enough to supply the demand. This new and enlarged edition gives some ao count of upwards of 300 families, and is brought down nearly to the present time, 1886. Cyrus felton. This book was released on 2018-10 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Incomplete Genealogy of the Fowler Family I attributed the lack of interest in our family history upon the part of our ancestors to a lack of vanity and 'so I stand self-accused of the fault of Narcissus - I only trust that my glances into the placid mirror of the Past will disclose facts that will as thoroughly justify my vanity as his was justified. And now a word in regard to the vanity of a genealogy that term may be and has often been applied to such family records - but not always justly. Is it vanity to record the good deeds done by those who have, borne our name before us? Is it more of a vanity than the historian expresses for a whole nation when he compiles his enormous tomes of history? I think not - and yet if the argument prevail I can but hope that vanity may flourish to this extent in our fam ily - that it may be more in evidence hereafter than hereto fore, leading to an occasional revision and publication of our family history. Book Memoranda Relating to the Mifflin Family Classic Reprint

Download or read book Memoranda Relating to the Mifflin Family Classic Reprint written by John Houston Merrill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Memoranda Relating to the Mifflin Family The following pages were prepared for Mr. James Mitflin, of Philadelphia. They do not pretend to be a genealogy of the family - a work of years - but are called Memoranda, as the most accurate description of their purpose, which is to preserve in convenient and durable shape, information of value relating to an old and prominent family. No one, who takes any interest in these matters, is ignorant of the fact that a few years' neglect often places such knowledge beyond the most diligent and care ful research of trained investigators. Mr. Mifflin therefore determined that what material had been preserved in the family, or could be obtained from a somewhat superficial ex amination of public records, should be printed in this form. They are, however, of value, as confirming the correctness of the information I had collected, and have aided me in correcting dates &c. The passages in this work, copied from his manuscript are included in brackets, J, and followed by the letters, E. P., his initials. If any one asks why I have been willing, without any pecuniary return, to expend so much labor and money upon this work, I will refer him to the words of another, the President of the Genealogical Society, which very correctly express my own feelings.
