Book excerpt: Unlock the esoteric origins of Kabbalah to discover hidden symbolic messages in the Bible and key occult texts The art of Gematria goes far deeper than the way in which people have come to understand it today. Originating in Biblical texts, Gematria is less about the cherry-picking and comparison of numbers, but a far more beautiful and ancient art, that is crucial for biblical interpretation and occult symbolism. In this revised and expanded version of the classic book, Bethsheba Ashe tackles questions which have been asked for as a long as the Bible has existed - why Adam and Eve had to leave the Garden of Eden; how Moses parted the Red Sea; whether Elijah riding the fiery chariot to heaven as real - which can all be answered all through the art of gematria, in the most advanced and thorough study of the subject ever published to date. The ciphers in the book are utilized by the Shematria Gematria Calculator, created by the author herself to assist readers as she guides you through the ancient Hebrew system. Behold can be read as both a student handbook, a history and an invaluable reference text; within its pages you will find everything needed to detect and read hidden gematria calculations. "Leeya Thompson is a scholar and a visionary, bringing impeccable research and fierce intellectual discipline to her work. She follows the trail of the ancient art of gematria back to its earliest roots in Middle Eastern culture and creates a remarkable tool for understanding and change." William Moore, Educator and Reader of the Tree of Life and Tarot I recently had the privilege of experiencing a sound and numerology reading from Leeya Thompson. I was grateful, not only for her insight, but for her ability to express what was revealed in "my numbers and name sounds" in ways that were both accessible and deeply meaningful. Leeya uses a delightful economy of words, communicating the essences that combine to create my unique portrait. I found the progression of themes for each life phase especially helpful. It is rare to have a reading that takes in the sweep of a life while giving precise indications as well. I came away with a sense of focused hope fueling personal momentum- a rare commodity in today's circumstances. And a testament to Leeya's skill and wisdom. Anne Oliver, Counselor of Mediation

Book The Reb and the Rebel

Download or read book The Reb and the Rebel written by Carmel Schrire and published by Juta and Company (Pty) Ltd. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a vast and varied literature on the formation of 19th-century Jewish diasporic communities worldwide. Now, added to this are the previously unpublished autobiographical works of two members of the Schrire family, which form the core of The Reb and the Rebel, mainly covering the period 1892-1913. They comprise a diary, a poem and a memoir. The first two, written by Reb Yehuda Leib Schrire (1851-1912), and translated from pre-Ben Yehuda Hebrew into English, chart his journey through a number of countries, including Lithuania, Holland, England and South Africa. The third is by his son, Harry Nathan (1895-1980). The social history within these documents paints a lively picture of South African Jewish communities at the turn of the 20th century. They reveal tiny details of shipboard life below deck; major issues of religious belief and practice in Lithuanian shtetls, Johannesburg goldfields and District Six homes; and global issues of mass migration, pandemics and war. They show how community formation in Cape Town replicates the orthodoxy of der alte heym, even as the new generation is integrated into a life undreamed of in the Old Country. Analyses of the contexts and authors, together with Appendices which include a genealogy, glossary and catalogued artworks, combine here to make the South African Jewish past come alive.

Download or read book The Sacred the Digital written by F.G. (Frank) Bosman and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Video game studies are a relative young but flourishing academic discipline. But within game studies, however, the perspective of religion and spirituality is rather neglected, both by game scholars and religion scholars. While religion can take different shapes in digital games, ranging from material and referential to reflexive and ritual, it is not necessarily true that game developers depict their in-game religions in a positive, confirming way, but ever so often games approach the topic critically and disavowingly. The religion criticisms found in video games can be categorized as follows: religion as (1) fraud, aimed to manipulate the uneducated, as (2) blind obedience towards an invisible but ultimately non-existing deity/ies, as (3) violence against those who do not share the same set of religious rules, as (4) madness, a deranged alternative for logical reasoning, and as (5) suppression in the hands of the powerful elite to dominate and subdue the masses into submission and obedience. The critical depictions of religion in video games by their developers is the focus of this special issue.
