Book Modern Method for Drums Book 1

Download or read book Modern Method for Drums Book 1 written by Oliver Pooley and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book 1 is the first book in the Modern Method For Drums series. For too long, students have had to scroll through YouTube or Instagram to find drum tutorials on modern 21st century repertoire. I wrote this book to put a stop to that. The idea behind this book is to show you not just the techniques and rhythmic language required to play drums, but how to use that knowledge in a musical way. I found that students were learning particular technical elements of drumming without realising, meaning their ability was becoming wasted as they wouldn't know what to do with it. I wrote this book to change that - to teach you the raw basics of drumming, then show you what you can do with that ability. The book is written in 10 main sections, with section 11 consisting of warm- ups. The sections are broadly based on ability (from beginner to advanced), but there is nothing to say the book has to be worked on from beginning to end in order. The content of the book is divided into categories - Techniques, Rudiments, Exercises, Grooves, Musicianship Skills, and Studies.Features 204 pages of musical content.

Book Rudiment Grooves for Drum Set

Download or read book Rudiment Grooves for Drum Set written by Rick Considine and published by Berklee PressPublications. This book was released on 2003 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Berklee Press). Morph those boring 26 standard rudiments you learned into mind-blowing grooves, fills and solos! All that rhythmic sophistication you hear from great drummers can easily be broken down into its basic elements: the rudiments. Rudiments are the drum language: a basic vocabulary of rhythms that drummers arrange and rearrange when they play grooves, solos and fills. This book shows you how to apply them to the drum set in all styles of music. When you start combining the hands and feet, orchestrating different parts of the rudiments between the various drums and cymbals on your set, you'll start to make inspired music. Fifty illustrated grooves are reinforced on the accompanying audio so you can hear how the rudiments should sound when you apply them to the drum set. Discover how these basics become the foundation for all grooves and moves, including: single and double strokes; stroked rolls; drags; flams; paradiddles, double paradiddles, paradiddle grooves and fills; combinations and more. Your choices of accents, tempos, style and feel are what will ultimately make the rudiments into music. Learning and internalizing them will help you expand your vocabulary to play creative grooves, fills and solos. Use Rudiment Grooves for the Drum Set to create an infinite number of combinations, in any style, and at any tempo. The audio is accessed online using the unique code inside each book and can be streamed or downloaded. The audio files include PLAYBACK+, a multi-functional audio player that allows you to slow down audio without changing pitch, set loop points, change keys, and pan left or right.

Book Musicians Migratory Patterns The African Drum as Symbol in Early America

Download or read book Musicians Migratory Patterns The African Drum as Symbol in Early America written by Christopher Johnson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-16 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Musicians’ Migratory Patterns: The African Drum as Symbol in Early America questions the ban that was placed on the African drum in early America. It shows the functional use of the drum for celebrations, weddings, funerals, religious ceremonies, and nonviolent communication. The assumption that "drums and horns" were used to communicate in slave revolts is undone in this study. Rather, this volume seeks to consider the "social place" of the drum for both blacks and whites of the time, using the writings of Europeans and colonial-era Americans, the accounts of African American free persons and slaves, the period instruments, and numerous illustrations of paintings and sculpture. The image of the drum was effectively appropriated by Europeans and Americans who wrote about African American culture, particularly in the nineteenth century, and re-appropriated by African American poets and painters in the early twentieth century who recreated a positive nationalist view of their African past. Throughout human history, cultural objects have been banned by one group to be used another, objects that include books, religious artifacts, and ways of dress. This study unlocks a metaphor that is at the root of racial bias—the idea of what is primitive—while offering a fresh approach by promoting the construct of multiple-points-of-view for this social-historical presentation.
