Book A Forward Facing Step Study

Download or read book A Forward Facing Step Study written by Richard T. Driftmyer and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation involving a thick, adiabatic, naturally turbulent, two-dimensional boundary layer undergoing separation has been completed at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory (NOL). Forward facing steps (with attached end plates) were used to induce boundary-layer separation for the particular case where the step heights, h, were less than the boundary-layer thickness, delta. The tests were conducted at a free-stream Mach number of 4.9 with a range of unit Reynolds numbers varying from 0.8 x 10 to the 6th power per foot to 4.0 x 10 to the 6th power per foot. The pressure distributions measured in the separated region ahead of the steps were found to be functions of both Re sub delta and h/delta for the turbulent boundary-layer separation case where h

Book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions

Download or read book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.

Book Forward Facing Professional Resilience

Download or read book Forward Facing Professional Resilience written by J. Eric Gentry, Ph.D and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Mission To Help Others Heal. A mission to help others heal and regain productive lives is likely what led you to pursue a career in professional caregiving. But what happens when all the accumulated suffering and trauma that you have witnessed and the pain that you have experienced starts to cause problems in your own personal and professional life? Insidious and often steeped in shame, compassion fatigue burnout and traumatic stress are very real issues that members of the caregiving community are not only at risk for but will inevitably confront at some point in their careers. The key is not to fight against or run away from these consequences of caregiving, but to recognize their normalization, origination, and the applicable steps available to heal your existing stress and build resilience for the future. In Forward-Facing® Professional Resilience: Prevention and Resolution of Burnout, Toxic Stress and Compassion Fatigue, trauma and compassion fatigue expert Dr. J. Eric Gentry and medical director and practitioner of emergency medicine Dr. Jeffrey “Jim” Dietz combine over seventy years’ worth of experience treating patients and caregivers to present a two-part text that first examines the cause of compassion fatigue, followed by a proven, simple five-step solution for healing and a renewed sense of mission. Drawing from their Professional Resilience workshop that has been attended by over 100,000 international participants, Drs. Gentry and Dietz address these issues with their readers in ways that are candid, heartfelt, insightful, and most of all—filled with hope.

Book An experimental investigation of the turbulent boundary layer behind a forward facing step in supersonic flow

Download or read book An experimental investigation of the turbulent boundary layer behind a forward facing step in supersonic flow written by Dave Robert Moore and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the results of an experimental study of the effect of a disturbance, produced by a forward facing step, on the turbulent boundary layer in compressible flow. Boundary layer total pressure surveys and direct skin friction measurements were made at six stations on each of two test surfaces. One surface was smooth and the other surface had an 0.080-inch forward facing step. The test stations were all located downstream of the step, the height of which was approximately one-half the smooth surface boundary layer thickness. Data were obtained at Mach Numbers of 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 and the test Reynolds Numbers, based on momentum thickness, ranged from 8,000 to 10,000 approximately. The results of this investigation indicate that the effect of the disturbance, produced by the step on the 'law of the wall' and 'velocity defect law' profiles appears to be negligible from a point approximately 10 flat plate boundary layer thicknesses downstream from the step. Book A Numerical Study of Incompressible Fluid Flow Over a Forward Facing Step at Various Grades

Download or read book A Numerical Study of Incompressible Fluid Flow Over a Forward Facing Step at Various Grades written by Peter Andrew Martinez and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the effect of natural forces on hydraulic structures is of great concern for the accurate prediction when a design could be at risk of failure. In recent times the use of the shallow water equations to predict the behavior of the free surface for flow over a step has proven inaccurate because only a hydrostatic pressure distribution is considered. One of the phenomena that will not be accounted for with the shallow water equations in such a setup is the formulation of undular bore type waves on the surface. For a more accurate representation of the behavior of the free surface a computational flow solver must be used with a more accurate method. A numerical study has been performed in this research to investigate the behavior of the free surface in open channel flow over a forward facing step at multiple stream gradients.

Book Numerical Simulation of Mechatronic Sensors and Actuators

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Mechatronic Sensors and Actuators written by Manfred Kaltenbacher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-07 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like the previous editions also the third edition of this book combines the detailed physical modeling of mechatronic systems and their precise numerical simulation using the Finite Element (FE) method. Thereby, the basic chapter concerning the Finite Element (FE) method is enhanced, provides now also a description of higher order finite elements (both for nodal and edge finite elements) and a detailed discussion of non-conforming mesh techniques. The author enhances and improves many discussions on principles and methods. In particular, more emphasis is put on the description of single fields by adding the flow field. Corresponding to these field, the book is augmented with the new chapter about coupled flow-structural mechanical systems. Thereby, the discussion of computational aeroacoustics is extended towards perturbation approaches, which allows a decomposition of flow and acoustic quantities within the flow region. Last but not least, applications are updated and restructured so that the book meets modern demands.
