From 1914 to 1966 the retail cosmetic sales within the U.S.A. went from almost $40 million to well over $3 billion. Part of the reason for this upsurge can be attributed to the increased interest shown by men in cosmetic products such as various shaving creams, colognes, hair tonics and conditioners. Because of the importance of this field of chemical science, it seemed pertinent to produce a chemical formulary specializing in cosmetic preparations of all types. The formulas and data in this book have all been contributed within the past twelve months by the companies listed on page iv. They are printed as contributed and thus there are variations in manner of presentation. The formulas included here are of an experimental nature and are intended to be used as starting points for the industrial chemist, and for those who wish to experiment in their own right. Many of the formulas can serve as successful products without any alterations required. However, once the chemist has familiarized himself with the formulas as they stand, the adventure of individual experimentation begins.

Book Poucher s Perfumes Cosmetics and Soaps

Download or read book Poucher s Perfumes Cosmetics and Soaps written by H. Butler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poucher's Perfumes Cosmetics and Soaps has been in print since 1923 and is the classic reference work in the field of cosmetics. Now in a fully updated 10th edition, this new volume provides a firm basic knowledge in the science of cosmetics (including toiletries) as well as incorporating the latest trends in scientific applications and legislation which have occurred since the 9th edition. This edition will not only be an excellent reference book for students entering the industry but also for those in specialized research companies, universities and other associated institutions who will be able to gain an overall picture of the modern cosmetic science and industry. The book has been logically ordered into four distinct parts. The historical overview of Part 1 contains an essay demonstrating William Arthur Poucher's influence on the 20th Century cosmetics industry as well as a chapter detailing the long history of cosmetics. Part 2 is a comprehensive listing of the properties and uses of common cosmetic types, ranging from Antiperspirants through to Sunscreen preparations. There are an increased number of raw materials in use today and their chemical, physical and safety benefits are carefully discussed along with formulation examples. The many additions since the last edition demonstrate the dramatic recent expansion in the industry and how changes in legal regulations affecting the development, production and marketing of old, established and new products are operative almost worldwide. Information on specialist products for babies and others is included within individual chapters. The chapters in Part 3 support and outline the current guidelines regarding the assessment and control of safety and stability. This information is presented chemically, physically and microbiologically. Part 3 chapters also detail requirements for the consumer acceptability of both existing and new products. Those legal regulations now in force in the EU, the USA and Japan are carefully described in a separate chapter and the remaining chapters have been extensively updated to explain the technical and practical operations needed to comply with regulations when marketing. This information will be invaluable to European Union and North American companies when preparing legally required product information dossiers. The final chapters in Part 4 contain useful information on the psychology of perfumery as well as detailing methods for the conduct of assessment trials of new products. As ingredient labelling is now an almost universal legal requirement the International Nomenclature of Cosmetics Ingredients (INCI) for raw materials has been used wherever practicable. The advertised volume is the 10th edition of what was previously known as volume 3 of Poucher's Cosmetics and Soaps. Due to changes in the industry there are no plans to bring out new editions of volume 1 and 2.

This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cosmetics are substances used to enhance the appearance or odor of the human body. These are products that are created for application on the body for the purpose of cleansing, beautifying or altering appearance and enhancing attractive features. But cosmetics are not the same thing as medicines and cosmetics cannot be used to alter a body functions or performance. Beauty cosmetic products that are manufactured in India include an extensive range of makeup cosmetics and toiletries like skin creams and lotions, perfumes, lipsticks and lip gloss, nail varnish, toothpastes, deodorants and eye and face makeup products to cite a few examples. A chemical depilatory is a cosmetic preparation used to remove the hair from the skin on the human body. The depilatories industry is comprised of companies primarily concerned with the manufacturing, distribution, and retailing of hair removal products. Depilatories are considered cosmetic products used to remove unwanted hair on the surface of the skin, and typically come in cream, gel, aerosol, lotion, or powdered form. Indian cosmetics market is reportedly growing at 15 to 20% annually. Drugs are usually distinguished from endogenous biochemical by being introduced from outside the organism. Drugs and pharmaceutical industry plays a vital role in the economic development of a nation. It is one of the largest and most advanced sectors in the world, acting as a source for various drugs, medicines and their intermediates as well as other pharmaceutical formulations. India has come a long way in this field, from a country importing more than 95% of its requirement of drugs and pharmaceuticals; India now is exporting it even to developed countries. Soaps and Detergents are cleaning products that have become an essential part in our daily lives. Soaps are mainly used as surfactants for washing, bathing, and cleaning, but they are also used in textile spinning and are important components of lubricants. Cleaning products play an essential role by safely and effectively removing dirt, germs and other contaminants, and thus promote a hygienic lifestyle. Toilet soaps account for the largest single share of about 10% in FMCG (fast moving consumer good) market. The toilet market is getting saturated at a high penetration level of 98% and is growing at a very modest rate. The toilet soap, once only an urban phenomenon, has now penetrated practically in all areas including remote rural areas. The incremental demand flows from population increase and rise in the usage norm impacted as it is by a greater concern for hygiene. Increased sales revenues would also expand from up gradation of quality or per unit value. The market is littered over with several leading national and global brands and a large number of small brands which have limited markets. Some of the fundamentals of the book are cosmetics and drugs, ocean bathing salt, oxygen bathing salt, medical bathing salts, carlsbad well, freichenhall kreuznach, hallein well, sodium thiosulphate plus acid, bath water, prophylactic face waters, kummerfelds (face) water sulphur, colloidal or finely, alcoholic sulphur hair lotion, preparation for head massage, scalp stimulant, hair wave concentrate, hair setting concentrate liquid, hair fixative brilliantine, non greasy brilliantine, hair fixative cream, hair fixative perfumes, hair oil, soap less shampoo, soap less shampoo powder, cleansers, soaps and detergents etc. Formulation is a key process in the overall life cycle so that products are delivered that is of the right quality, at a competitive cost, and is made available within the specified time scale. This book present several hundred advanced product formulations for household, industrial and other applications. This book will be an invaluable resource to development chemists looking for leads in the formulation of a wide range of products.
