Book excerpt: I took off in a run, stopping on the other side of the trees. Where Atlantis had once stood was now nothing but water and the tops of buildings. Hands protruded from the water, along with bubbles and the horrid screams of the dying. A large group of humans stood on the bank laughing and pointing, as my brothers and sisters screamed for help.Anger flashed through my every pore in an instant, oozing out of my body. That was until I saw the castle jolt, then slam three stories into the water. Only the top story was left above... the story Athan was still on.Without thinking, I jumped onto the top of the nearest building. It jerked under my weight and sunk a little farther. Water swished over my bare foot and I screamed. I forced myself to leap onto the next building. I almost slipped, but gained my balance by grabbing another fairy's arm.She was only halfway above the water, and was far younger than me. Her eyes were desperate for help, her arms chained to the floor beneath her. She was stuck inside the building while I was hanging off the outside. I looked from her to castle, tears welling in my eyes. She stayed silent, letting go of my arm, and nodding for me to go. I jumped to the next building without looking back at her. She and I both knew she would be dead within the next few minutes. The building I was now on was longer, and closer to my destination. I was able to run the length of it and jump onto the side of the castle.I dug my claws into the marble and made my way into the window I had earlier flown out of. As soon as my feet hit the floor I began running to our room. I could hear his screams echoing through the halls. He was the only one on this floor. I probably could have made it through the water and to him a lot faster if I had flictated, but all I could think of was my husband chained to the floor awaiting his death.

Book excerpt: On the other side, Kate's soul prepares for her next life. She just won't remember the lessons she needs to learn or their purpose after she's born. Now in her twenties, Kate Matthews meets the handsome, charismatic Will Kennedy. She falls hard and fast with no idea she's loved him before-in other lifetimes. They marry, have a son, and Kate's life finally feels perfect. Then, in an instant, her world shatters. Kate must face life on her own as she attempts to move forward as a single mom. To support herself, she turns her baking hobby into a business, but her heart has no interest in finding love again. Her soul, however, has other plans. A seemingly inconsequential meeting brings Sam, a charming food critic, into Kate's life. They've just met, yet he seems hauntingly familiar. Kate's drawn to Sam, but her determination to hide her true feelings could cost her everything she's worked toward. What Kate doesn't realize is the role her past was always meant to play in her future. It's only when she's forced to revisit her darkest hour that she makes a startling discovery about fate, enduring love, and the power of second chances.
Download or read book Conversations on Dying written by Phil Dwyer and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2016-04-16 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of the end-of-life experience of a palliative care physician who helped thousands of patients to die well. We all die. Most of us spend the majority of our lives ignoring this uncomfortable truth, but Dr. Larry Librach dedicated his life and his career to helping his patients navigate their final journey. Then, in April 2013, Larry was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Unlike the majority of us, Larry knew the death he wanted. He wanted to die at home, surrounded by his family: his wife of forty years, his children, and his grandchildren. He did. He was peaceful and calm at the end. Larry proved that the “good death” isn’t a myth. It can be done, and he showed us how. Ever the teacher, Larry made his last journey a teachable moment on how to die the best death possible, even with a pernicious disease. As hard as it is to guide patients toward dying well, it is far harder to live those precepts day by day as the clock ticks down to one’s own death, but Larry, together with author Phil Dwyer, chronicled his final journey with courage and humour.

This book was released on 1951 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of four thin unswept flutter airfoils attached to two freely falling bodies are reported. Two airfoils fluttered at a Mach number of 0.85, a third airfoil fluttered at a Mach number of 1.03, and a fourth fluttered at a Mach number of 1.07. Results of calculations of flutter speed using incompressible and compressible air-force coefficients, including Mach number of 1.0, are presented.

Jones and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A flutter investigation has been made in the Langley transonic blowdown tunnel at Mach numbers between 0.79 and 1.34 on a thin 10 degree sweptback wing having an aspect ratio of 4 and a taper ratio of 0.6. The data obtained have been compared with data from NACA Research Memorandum L55I13A for zero and 30 degree sweptback wings of the type investigated, the flutter boundary for the 10 degree sweptback wing falls between those for the zero degree and 30 degree sweptback wings in the low supersonic Mach number range. However, the subsonic level (around a Mach number of 0.8) of the flutter boundary for the 10 degree sweptback wing lies above those for the zero and 30 degree sweptback wings. In addition, the amount of rise in the flutter boundary from the subsonic level to the supersonic values is about the same for the wings with angles of sweepback of 10 degrees and zero degrees, but is much greater for the wing with an angle of sweepback of 30 degrees.

Download or read book Flutter Analysis of Rectangular Wings of Very Low Aspect Ratio written by Robert William Fralich and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A flutter analysis, employing slender-body aerodynamic theory and thin-plate theory, is made for rectangular wings of very low aspect ratio with a constant thickness. The spanwise variation of wing deflection is assumed to be given by a parabola, and the chordwise variation is allowed complete freedom. The results show the vsriation of flutter speed and male shape with aspect ratio. Comparisons are made with additional resuits obtained by approximating the chordwise deflection shape by use of parabolic or cubic curves. The analysis shows that the cubic approximation gives good resuits for a ratio of chord to semispan less than 3.
