Book A Flight Investigation of the Meteorological Conditions Conductive to the Formation of Ice on Airplanes

Download or read book A Flight Investigation of the Meteorological Conditions Conductive to the Formation of Ice on Airplanes written by William Lewis and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data from flight measurements of the meteorological factors related to the intensity of icing conditions are presented. The physical factors that establish the distribution of liquid water in clouds of various types are discussed and the results of the analysis are used to formulate certain rules for the forecasting of icing intensity. The problems of determining the range of values of the significant factors defining icing intensity for the purpose of the design of ice-protection equipment are discussed and tentative values are given.

Book A Further Investigation of the Meteorological Conditions Conductive to Aircraft Icing

Download or read book A Further Investigation of the Meteorological Conditions Conductive to Aircraft Icing written by William Lewis and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data from flight observations in icing conditions on liquid water content, temperature, and mean-effective drop diameter are shown to be consistent with previously proposed values. Data on drop-size distribution with the rotating-cylinder method, although consistent with previous data, were inconsistent with data derived from stationary cylinder investigations. The relation between temperature and maximum water content in layer clouds is discussed and estimates are given for the highest values of water to be expected in layer clouds at various temperatures.

Book Meteorological Conditions During the Formation of Ice on Aircraft

Download or read book Meteorological Conditions During the Formation of Ice on Aircraft written by L. T. Samuels and published by . This book was released on 1932 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hazard resulting from the formation of ice on airplanes makes it highly desirable to ascertain all possible meteorological information pertinent thereto in order to avoid or prevent its formation. The object of this paper is to present the results of a number of records recently secured from autographic meteorological infstruments mounted on airplanes at times when ice formed.

Book Experimental Investigation of Velocity Distributions Downstream of Single Duct Bends

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Velocity Distributions Downstream of Single Duct Bends written by John R. Weske and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results indicate that cross-sectional shape and aspect ratio are minor factors compared with radius ratio in affecting the velocity pattern. Variation of Reynolds number within the range of the tests had no appreciable effect on the velocity distribution in curved ducts.

Book Turbulent Boundary layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two dimensional Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Turbulent Boundary layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two dimensional Supersonic Flow written by Maurice Tucker and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical method is presented for obtaining turbulent temperature recovery factors for a thermally insulated surface in supersonic flow. The method is an extension of Squire's analysis for incompressible flow. The boundary layer velocity profile is represented by a power law and a similarity is postulated for squared-velocity the static-temperature-difference profiles.

Book Dynamometer stand Investigation of the Muffler Used in the Demonstration of Light airplane Noise Reduction

Download or read book Dynamometer stand Investigation of the Muffler Used in the Demonstration of Light airplane Noise Reduction written by K. R. Czarnecki and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The attenuation characteristics of the muffler used in the demonstration of light airplane noise reduction were investigated on the ground dynamometer stand at the Langley full-scale tunnel. Sound, back pressure, and engine power output were measured. The ground tests indicated that a reduction of 10 to 15 decibels was to be expected from this muffler.
