Book Guide to Stability Design Criteria for Metal Structures

Download or read book Guide to Stability Design Criteria for Metal Structures written by Theodore V. Galambos and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1988-03-22 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Guide, compiled and updated by the Structural Stability Research Council, has long been an indispensable bridge between research and practice. Provides simplified and refined procedures applicable to design and to assessing design limitations, and offers guidance to design specifications, codes, and standards currently applied to the stability of metal structures. Most chapters have been rewritten and three new chapters cover stability theory, box girders, and the application of the finite element method to the solution of stability problems. Illustrated with over 250 figures.

Book A Koiter type Method for Finite Element Analysis of Nonlinear Structural Behavior

Download or read book A Koiter type Method for Finite Element Analysis of Nonlinear Structural Behavior written by Raphael T. Haftka and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Koiter's method for the asymptotic analysis of post-buckling behavior is reformulted in finite element notation for application to structures idealized by finite element models. Koiter's method is herein adapted to a general class of structures exhibiting the common snap-through (limit point) type of buckling. This is referred to as the Modified Structure method. It is accomplished by modification of the actual energy functional to create a hypothetical modified structure having a strictly linear pre-buckling path along which buckling must be of the bifurcation type. The analysis of the actual structure is then accomplished by application of Koiter's method through consideration of the actual structure as an imperfect version of the modified structure. The effects of pre-buckling nonlinearity are approximated asymptotically. The use of the Modified Structure method in conjunction with direct methods of nonlinear analysis is examined. A highly accurate finite element representation is employed in presenting a comprehensive numerical evaluation of the Modified Structure method of analysis on the basis of a number of planar frame problems.

Book Advanced Analysis of Steel Frames

Download or read book Advanced Analysis of Steel Frames written by W.F. Chen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the limit state approach to design in recent years has focused particular attention on two basic requirements: accurate information regarding the behavior of structures throughout the entire range of loading up to the ultimate strength, and simple practical procedures to enable engineers to assess this behavior. This book satisfies these requirements by providing practical analysis methods for the design of steel frames. The book contains a wide range of second-order analyses: from elastic to inelastic, rigid to semi-rigid connections, and simple plastic hinge method to sophisticated plastic-zone method. Computer programs for each analysis are provided in the form of a floppy disk for easy implementation. Sample problems are described and user's manuals are well documented for each program developed in the book.
