Book A Field Guide to Site Identification and Interpretation for the Southeast Portion of the Prince George Forest Region

Download or read book A Field Guide to Site Identification and Interpretation for the Southeast Portion of the Prince George Forest Region written by C. DeLong and published by British Columbia, Forest Science Program. This book was released on 2003 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide has two main goals: to assist users in classifying sample forest ecosystem sites in the field in the south-east Prince George Forest Region; and to provide interpretations for these site units that will assist in preparing management prescriptions. Following the introduction is a brief discussion of the biogeoclimatic classification system. Chapter 3 contains procedures for site description, identification, mapping, & interpretation. Chapters 4 to 11 present information about the biogeoclimatic units in the Region, tools for identification of biogeoclimatic & site units, descriptions of the site units, and direct management interpretations for the identified site units. Chapter 12 provides indirect interpretations for silvicultural systems and site preparation options, as well as some basic information on ecosystem management.

Book Plant Indicator Guide for Northern British Columbia

Download or read book Plant Indicator Guide for Northern British Columbia written by Leisbet J. Beaudry and published by Ministry of Forests, Research Program. This book was released on 1999 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guidebook shows how the distribution of common forest plants changes across British Columbia's northern interior landscape due to variations in climate, terrain, and site & soil conditions. The guide contains information on 215 plant species or groups that occur in the major biogeoclimatic zones of the Prince Rupert, Prince George, and northern Cariboo forest regions. The information, arranged first by category of plant (trees; shrubs; dwarf shrubs, herbs, & ferns; grasses & sedges; mosses, liverworts, & lichens) then by scientific name, is in the form of grids that depict the predominant moisture & nutrient regimes where a species will most likely occur in old or mature forests. Also included are notes on indicator values and habitat associations. Includes index of common & scientific names.

Book Ecosystem and Tree Attributes Affecting the Presence of Functional Wildlife Tree Types

Download or read book Ecosystem and Tree Attributes Affecting the Presence of Functional Wildlife Tree Types written by Ben Heemskerk and published by British Columbia Ministry of Forests and Range Forest Scienc. This book was released on 2009 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Wildlife Trees play a significant role in maintaining species richness in forested ecosystems by providing critical habitat. This study was completed to develop a better understanding of the relationship between ecosystem and tree attributes and an established functional Wildlife Tree type classification. Data from four studies conducted in different ecosystems in central British Columbia are compared in this paper. The four study areas were: (1) boreal aspen forests, (2) mixed conifer forests in the boreal foothills, (3) mixed conifer forests in the moist interior plateau, and (4) mixed conifer forests in the interior wet belt. In each study area, tree species were evaluated by diameter classes for the percentage of live versus dead stems and functional Wildlife Tree types based on an existing classification system, and results within and among study areas were then compared. The combined tree sample size totalled almost 19 300 stems, comprising 10 different tree species. To provide a link to provincial Wildlife Tree policy, each tree's value was ranked using guidelines established by the provincial Wildlife Tree Committee."--Document.
